  • Patent number: 7690579
Abstract: A wireless-enabled smart card reader receives an Answer to Reset (ATR) from a smart card and transmits the ATR using a wireless communication link to a computing device without waiting for an ATR request from the computing device. The computing device may cache the ATR and use it for subsequent communication sessions with the smart card.

  • Patent number: 7653400
Abstract: A probabilistic prediction is made of the location of a wireless-enabled mobile station in a wireless local area network. The prediction includes calculating a vector representing movement of the mobile station through a space in which two or more access points of the network are located, and determining a region surrounding the vector in which the mobile station has at least a given probability to be located within a certain period of time.

  • Patent number: 7593417
Abstract: An access point is to handle received broadcast or multicast traffic as multiple instances of unicast traffic, where each instance is destined for a corresponding wireless client device associated with the access point. A client device may adjust its listen interval parameter according to predefined considerations, for example a charge level of a battery to power the client device and an expected usage model for the device. A client device may initiate a reassociation request to inform the access point of its adjusted listen interval parameter.

  • Patent number: 7561545
Abstract: Two or more connection profiles stored in a wireless device are partitioned into two or more groups, each group having a scanning policy associated therewith. A scanning policy of a group determines how often scanning for wireless local area networks matching any profile in that group is conducted. One or more factors may be taken into consideration when determining how to partition the profiles into groups, including, for example, a connectivity history of the wireless device.

  • Patent number: 7558387
Abstract: A device coupled to a smart card reader may request random data from a smart card inserted into the smart card reader, and the smart card reader may incorporate the random data into its randomness pool. A device having a source of random data may have a driver installed thereon for another device and the driver may extract random data from the source and transmit it securely over a wireless communication link to the other device. The other device, which may be a smart card reader, may incorporate the extracted random data into its randomness pool. A smart card reader may incorporate traffic received from a smart card inserted therein into its randomness pool.

  • Patent number: 7477913
Abstract: Different target transmit powers are determined for different wireless transmissions from a wireless device, the different transmissions having different security requirements. For example, the security requirements of a particular transmission may include a security ranking of a device to which one or more frames carried by the particular transmission are addressed. In another example, the security requirements of a particular transmission may include the confidentiality of data carried by the particular transmission.

  • Patent number: 7444135
Abstract: A contact is determined to be unavailable if a predetermined period of time has elapsed since an instant message was sent to the contact and an expected notification for the instant message was not received during that predetermined period of time by the device that sent the instant message. If the expected notification is a delivered notification, then the contact is deemed unreachable. If the expected notification is a read notification and a delivered notification for the instant message has been received by the device that sent the instant message, then the contact is deemed busy.

  • Patent number: 7420942
Abstract: A single access point may manage two or more wireless networks, each having a network name. The access point may be configured to store delivery traffic indication message (DTIM) period values on a per network name basis. A processor of the access point may manage, on a per network name basis, timing of transmission of delivery traffic indication messages.

  • Patent number: 7410418
Abstract: A chess-like game involves hidden information. The information provided to a player of the game includes positions and types of game pieces on a) squares that are occupied by game pieces belonging to the player and squares that are diagonally adjacent thereto, b) squares to which one or more of the game pieces belonging to the player can move according to their respective movement patterns and which are not occupied by an enemy game piece and squares that are diagonally adjacent thereto, and c) squares occupied by enemy game pieces that can be captured or put into check by one or more of the game pieces belonging to the player can move according to their respective movement patterns. The information excludes positions and types of game pieces on any other squares. The game may also involve non-alternating moves.

  • Patent number: 7356539
Abstract: In a system with a policy server, a first device able to communicate with the policy server and a second device able to communicate with the first device and unable to communicate with the policy server, the first device is to act as a policy proxy. The policy server may communicate to the first device a policy for the second device, and the first device may communicate the policy to the second device.

  • Patent number: 7327255
Abstract: A user of a handheld device may be alerted to a possible risk of losing the handheld device. The handheld device is able to be secured to a carrying case. The carrying case may alert the user by activating one or more of its user interface elements. The handheld device may determine that a trigger condition has been met and transmit a signal indicating this to the carrying case. The carrying case may itself determine that a trigger condition has been met. The handheld device may determine that a trigger condition has been met and may alert the user by activating one or more of its user interface elements. The handheld device and the carrying case may communicate via a wireless communication link according to a communication protocol, for example, a Bluetooth® standard, an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) standard, a Zigbee™ standard or an ultra wideband (UWB) standard.

  • Patent number: 7160472
Abstract: Methods and systems for treating a waste stream in a waste treatment system involve performing a unit process of the waste treatment system by contacting the waste stream with oxyhydrogen-rich gas generated on-site by an oxyhydrogen gas generator that implements water dissociation technology. In a preferred embodiment, the oxyhydrogen gas generator involves applying a pulsed electrical signal to a series of closely-spaced electrodes that are submerged in the waste stream to produce oxyhydrogen-rich gas from a water component of the waste stream. Operation of the oxyhydrogen gas generator in the waste stream may accomplish one or more unit processes for waste treatment, such as conditioning, stabilization, thickening, and dewatering, among others. At least a portion of the oxyhydrogen-rich gas can be conveyed for a second use in the waste treatment system, such as a source of combustible fuel for incineration or power generation, for example.
