Abstract: The treatment of pavement surfaces with a rapid setting high float asphalt emulsion which comprises 50 to 75 weight percent asphalt, about 0.01 to 1.0 weight percent anionic emulsifier, about 0.2 to 15 weight percent carboxylic acid esters, sufficient base to provide said emulsion with a pH greater than about 9, and water.
Abstract: Preparation of dialkyl oxalates by the oxidative carbonylation of alcohols which comprises reacting carbon monoxide with an alcohol in the presence of a catalytic amount of a catalyst comprising palladium in complex combination with a ligand and in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of a quinone. Advantageously, carboxylic acid cocatalysts may be employed in addition to the palladium-containing catalyst.
Abstract: A fully mobil and totally contained well servicing and drilling rig is disclosed having equipment on the rig for automatically handling well elements (pipe, tubing and rods) going into and coming out of a well. The rig provides well element storage racks, cranes for moving well elements onto and off the tracks, transfer means for moving well elements from horizontal to vertical position, well element conveying means for moving elements to and from the transfer means, an automatic manipulator for moving elements into alignment with the well being serviced, automatic hoisting means, means for connecting and disconnecting elements from the element string within the well, driving means for all of the equipment, and control means for sequencing and operating all of the means so that the entire well servicing or drilling can be accomplished without human handling of well elements in the vicinity of the well head and rig.

Abstract: A process for isomerizing xylenes containing ethylbenzene to obtain near equilibrium amounts of paraxylene and to convert the ethylbenzene to hydrocarbons readily removable from the xylenes. The isomerization reaction uses a ZSM-5 type catalyst with 0.05 to 1.5 percent of an added metal such as zinc, cadmium, or barium. The isomerization is carried out in the absence of added hydrogen at low pressure, preferably between about 0 and 200 psig. Relatively low xylene losses are achieved even at high ethylbenzene conversion levels.
Abstract: A temperature gradient in staged turbulent bed retort established by adding heat transfer material at different levels along vertical length of retort to prevent thermal cracking of product vapors.
Abstract: 5-Deoxy-3-O-arylmethyl or substituted arylmethyl-1,2-O-alkylidene-a-D-xylofuranose and 5-C-alkyl and alkenyl derivatives thereof. The compounds are useful as herbicides and plant growth regulators.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of alpha olefin oligomers having predominantly terminal unsaturation using a catalyst system comprising an alkyl aluminum halide component and a second component comprising at least one zirconium compound, preferably in combination with at least one titanium compound. There is also disclosed a catalyst composition for use in this process.
Abstract: A strain of Erwinia herbicola identified as EHO-10 has been found to have a broad spectrum of inhibitory activity against pathogenic bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria inhibited by EHO-10 includes those from the following genera: Agrobacterium, Corynebacterium, Erwinia, Pseudomonas, and Xanthomonas. EHO-10 has inhibitory activity against Erwinia amylovora, a bacteria pathogen causing fire blight disease of pear and other trees.
Abstract: A catalyst composition for use in polymerizing alpha olefins which comprises a solid supported titanium complex and a cocatalyst comprising a mixture of an alkyl aluminum halide and a dialkyl magnesium or alkyl lithium compound.
Abstract: A refrigeration lubricating oil composition comprising a branched-chain alkylbenzene or mixture of branched-chain alkylbenzenes containing a total of from 10 to 25 carbon atoms in the alkyl groups, and about 50 ppm to 5 weight percent of a dialkyl sulfosuccinate wherein each alkyl group has 3 to 7 carbon atoms.
Abstract: 5-Deoxy-3-O-arylmethyl or substituted aryl-methyl-1,2-O-substituted-alkylidene or cycloalkylidene-alpha-D-xylofuranose and 5-C-alkyl, alkylidenyl and alkenyl derivatives thereof. The compounds are useful as herbicides and plant growth regulators.
Abstract: 2S-(2.beta.,4.beta.,5.beta.)-5-Arylmethoxy-4-substituted 2-alkyl-1,3-dioxane and derivatives thereof. The compounds are especially useful as herbicides.
Abstract: Herbicidal 2-(oxaheterocycle or thiaheterocycle)-5-amino-3-oxo-4-(substituted-phenyl)-2,3-dihydrofurans and derivatives thereof. The compounds generally exhibit both pre-emergence and post-emergence phytotoxicity and are useful as herbicides and also plant growth regulating agents at low dosages.
Abstract: A method and composition is provided to control fungal infection of seeds and seedlings. Certain species of Streptomyces are grown on dried ground shrimp waste preferably suspended in a mineral salts medium. The supernate derived from the culture provides fungal infection control when used as a seed-coating or seed-soaking material. The residue, consisting of unused shrimp waste and a Streptomyces species, also provides protection against fungal infection of plants such as cotton seedlings. The residue is employed as a amendment to the soil in the immediate area of the newly planted seed.
Abstract: 5-Deoxy-3-O-arylmethyl or substituted arylmethyl-1,2-O-ethylene-alpha-D-xylofuranose and 5-C-alkyl, alkylidenyl and alkenyl derivatives thereof. The compounds are useful as herbicides and plant growth regulators.
Abstract: Halothiopyruvic amides, which have viricidal and/or fungicidal activity of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is chloro, fluoro, bromo or iodo; andR is cyclohexyl substituted with 0, 1 or 2 lower alkyl groups, or phenyl substituted with 0, 1 or 2 lower alkyl groups.
Abstract: An improved particulate material is disclosed for use in a method for altering the permeability of a gravity override or relatively high permeability path through a subsurface earth formation resulting from fluid injection into the subsurface formation. The method includes adding selectively sized, finely divided, amorphous non-abrasive particulate material to a fluid and injecting the fluid into the gravity override or relatively high permeability path to deposit the particulate material thus altering the permeability in the override, or relatively high permeability path. The particulate material may include graphite, carbon black, clay suspensions, quartz, or other minerals reduced in size range to behave as non-abrasive amorphous material which will present a non-abrasive characteristic in injection wells and if the particulate material is produced with formation fluids from the treated formation.
Abstract: A process for the conversion of methanol to olefins by contacting an methanol-containing feedstock with an SSZ-13 under methanol conversion conditions.
Abstract: The anti-wear properties of lubricating oil compositions containing overbased calcium sulfonate are improved when a metal diisopropyl dithiophosphate-succinimide complex is added to the oil. Oil compositions containing this combination are useful as crankcase lubricants.
