Abstract: Compositions exhibiting high catalytic activity in the polymerization of .alpha.-olefins are prepared by reacting a mixture of a tetrahydrocarbyloxy titanium compound such as tetraisopropyl titanate and/or a titanium tetrahalide such as titanium tetrachloride and a titaniumoxydihalide such as titaniumoxydichloride, an organomagnesium component such as a hydrocarbon soluble complex of dialkyl magnesium and an organoaluminum compound such as triethyl aluminum and a halide source such as ethyl aluminum dichloride. Polymerization processes employing this catalyst composition do not require conventional catalyst removal steps in order to provide polymers having suitable color and other physical characteristics and these catalysts provide higher efficiencies and a broader molecular weight distribution than those catalysts employing either of the titanium compounds alone.
Abstract: Epoxy resins having improved properties are prepared by reacting an epoxy resin with a dihydric phenol in the presence of a sufficient quantity of a phosphonium trifluoroacetate catalyst such that the product resulting from reacting a mixture of the catalyst, epoxy resin and dihydric phenol has a % epoxide difference from the theoretical percent epoxide of from about 0.5 to about 4.0.

Abstract: A catalyst for polymerizing olefins is the reaction product of (A) the reaction product of (1) the reaction product of (a) an alkyl magnesium compound such as dibutylmagnesium, with (b) an oxygen-containing and/or nitrogen-containing compound such as n-propyl alcohol, or isopropylamine, with (2) a halide source such as titanium tetrachloride or silicon tetrachloride; and (B) a transition metal compound such as titanium tetrachloride and (C) a reducing agent such as triisobutylaluminum.Also disclosed is a non-transition metal containing catalyst support for use in preparing olefin polymerization catalysts.The polymers which are produced in the presence of this catalyst and a cocatalyst such as triethylaluminum have a low catalyst support to transition metal ratio and therefore, the catalyst efficiency based on quantity of polymer per quantity of total catalyst is very high resulting in a polymer having good color and very little, if any, corrosion.

Abstract: Epoxy resins containing triazine groups are prepared by (I) reacting (A) a material having at least one aromatic hydroxyl group per molecule such as bisphenol A with (B) a cyanogen halide such as cyanogen bromide in the presence of (C) a base and recovering a mixture of cyanate-containing products and unreacted (A) materials; (II) trimerizing the product recovered in (I) in the presence of a trimerization catalyst such as cobalt naphthenate and (III) epoxidizing the product from step II by reaction with an epihalohydrin such as epichlorohydrin, dehydrohalogenation of the resultant product with a basic acting material such as sodium hydroxide and recovering the resultant epoxy resin containing triazine groups.
Abstract: The subject oligomers are prepared by reacting a diphenol with a cyanogen halide in the presence of an alkaline agent. The resultant product is then reacted with an epoxy resin thereby producing a hydroxy aromatic oligomers containing triazine and oxazoline groups. An epoxy resin is then prepared by reacting the previously formed oligomers with an epihalohydrin followed by dehydrohalogenation of the resultant product.
Abstract: Incompatible compositions containing a relatively high molecular weight polyol containing terminal primary amine groups and a relatively low molecular weight polyol containing primary hydroxyl groups are rendered compatible by the addition thereto of a substituted urea such as dimethyl urea.

Abstract: Substrates having a backing of fine celled polyurethane foam are prepared by applying to the back of the substrate a frothed polyurethane forming composition containing small amounts of a silicone surfactant having an average molecular weight below about 30,000 which provides the resultant foam with a cell count value of greater than about 16 per 0.0025 square inches and wherein the unfilled, unfrothed liquid components of said polyurethane forming composition obtains a viscosity of greater than 10,000 centipoise in less than 40 minutes at 25.degree. C.
Abstract: Epoxy resin compositions are disclosed which are the reaction products resulting from reacting (A) the reaction product of a cyanuric halide and at least one dihydric or polyhydric phenol with (B) at least one dihydric or polyhydric phenol and (C) at least one epoxy resin having an average of more than one epoxy group per molecule. These epoxy resin compositions are suitable for use as electrical laminates, structural laminates, coatings, castings, electrical encapsulation and the like.
