  • Patent number: 5059286
Abstract: A hollow cylinder exhibits an internal body, which forms a sickle-shaped space by means of a partial cylindrical surface arranged eccentrically to the hollow cylinder, with a smaller radius than its internal radius. In this space there is created a vacuum on rotation of the hollow cylinder. By this means air is sucked out of the area through the boreholes of the hollow cylinder, where a web of material wraps the hollow cylinder. This leads to a firmer adherence of the web on material to the hollow cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5046930
Abstract: A connecting rod having lubricating passages therein for cooling the piston assembly of a compressor. A central lubricating passage provides fluid communication between the crankshaft end portion and piston end portion of the connecting rod. The central lubricating passage conducts lubricant on the wrist pin, thus directly lubricating the wrist pin. The connecting rod also includes a plurality of branched passages branching from the central lubricating passage and extending through the piston end portion closely adjacent the wrist pin. Each of the branched passages is oriented to spray lubricant on the inner surface of the piston. Thus, the branched passages indirectly cool the wrist pin by drawing heat away from it and directly cool the piston by spraying lubricant thereon.

  • Patent number: 5046458
Abstract: An air-cooled internal combustion engine having a rotating screen and a blower housing surrounding the screen. A ring is attached to the housing and positioned circumjacent the screen to define a precisely gauged radial clearance gap between the ring and the rotating screen. The ring provides a tortuous entry path for foreign matter entering through the air intake port between the ring and the screen. The ring includes a downwardly extending groove into which extends an upwardly turned lip of the rotating screen to form the tortuous path for foreign matter entering through the clearance gap between the inner periphery of the ring and the outer periphery of the main portion of the screen. Large debris and foreign matter entering through the tortuous path is chopped up into small pieces, which may then pass through the cooling fins.
