    Abstract: A method for electrochemical synthesis of ammonia gas comprising providing an electrolyte between an anode and a cathode, providing hydrogen gas to the anode, oxidizing negatively charged nitrogen-containing species present in the electrolyte at the anode to form an adsorbed nitrogen species, and reacting the hydrogen with the adsorbed nitrogen species to form ammonia. Preferably, the hydrogen gas is provided to the anode by passing the hydrogen gas through a porous anode substrate. It is also preferred to produce the negatively charged nitrogen-containing species in the electrolyte by reducing nitrogen gas at the cathode. However, the negatively charged nitrogen-containing species may also be provided by supplying a nitrogen-containing salt, such as lithium nitride, into the molten salt electrolyte mixture in a sufficient amount to provide some or all of the nitrogen consumed in the production of ammonia.

    Abstract: An ozone generator which operates at constant pressures to produce a continuous flow of ozone in an oxygen stream having from 10% to 18% by weight of ozone. The ozone generator includes one or more electrolytic cells comprising an anode/anode flow field, a cathode/cathode flow field, and a proton exchange medium for maintaining the separation of ozone and oxygen from hydrogen. The ozone generator also has an anode reservoir which vents oxygen and ozone and a cathode reservoir which vents hydrogen. The anode reservoir can be filled from the cathode reservoir while continuing to produce ozone. The ozone generator is readily configured for self-control using a system controller programmed to operate the anode reservoir at a constant pressure.

    Abstract: In a load for testing an energy production device, such as a fuel cell, a technique is provided for sensing one or more operational parameters for each of a plurality field effect transistors. Analog and digital feedback are provided to adjust the control signal to the FETs to ensure that each remains within its individual safe operating area. The technique preferably takes all of the various operational parameters into account to determine if any individual FET is approaching the SOA boundary, and prevent that single FET from leaving the SOA while continuing to manage the operation of the entire load.

    Abstract: A method and system that allows individuals to transmit an alarm signal from a personal alarm device having a keypad, programmable register, a transmitter, and electrical power source. The keypad facilitates entry of a call-back telephone number into a programmable memory register and triggering the transmission of an alarm signal. The alarm signal is transmitted to a central alarm monitoring server that processes the alarm signal and initiates the necessary actions, including notifying relevant emergency response authorities and selectively contacting the individual at the call-back telephone number, if provided, or at a telephone number previously stored in a user preferences database in association with the user's account. The personal alarm device may have either normal and duress alarm buttons or have a keypad for entry of either a normal PIN code or a duress PIN code.

    Abstract: A method, computer program and system for alerting authorities during a transaction card authorization process, that a crime is in progress without alerting the perpetrator that an alert has been given. During a transaction card authorization process, the vendor attaches a code to the vendor identification sent to the authorization center. The code may be a normal code or a duress code. In either situation, the entered code is compared to the stored duress code. If a duress code has been entered, then the authorities are notified and the account transaction is approved, although at a slower rate than normal to provide authorities time to respond. Any attempt to contact the person under duress is delayed to avoid tipping off the perpetrator that an alarm has been sent.

    Abstract: An automatic teller system and a method of operating the system wherein the system can receive a personalized normal PIN or duress PIN from a user. If the user enters the duress PIN, the system determines that it is a duress PIN and actuates a silent alarm to notify authorities of the possible crime. The system will then simulate a normal transaction, perhaps with a reduced maximum withdrawal amount, so as to not alert a thief or potential thief that the alarm has been actuated, while dispensing bills marked with special ink that is visible only when viewed under special light. Also, the serial numbers of the bills dispensed under duress are recorded by the automatic teller system and automatically communicated to authorities. Under duress conditions, it is preferable that the monitoring of the ATM be enhanced.

    Abstract: An improved microkeratome includes a guide ring assembly for placement on the ocular globe and means for temporarily fixing the guide ring to the ocular globe. A cutting head contains an improved cutting blade having an arcuate cutting edge suitable for corneal resections. A vertical support assembly is connected to the guide ring and supports the cutting head for rotation about a horizontal axis such that rotation of the cutting head about the horizontal axis moves the cutting blade along an arcuate cutting path into engagement with the cornea of the ocular globe, whereby the arcuate cutting edge of the cutting blade cuts a substantially rounded corneal disk. An improved method related to the use of the arcuate cutting blade is also provided.

Preferably, the height of each pixel is inversely proportional to the gray scale intensity of the incident light so that the maximum height of a pixel occurs when a corresponding pixel in the visual image is black.

    Abstract: The invention provides a method for preparing subassemblies for an electrochemical cell or a stack of electrochemical cells, particularly a stack of fuel cells for the direct generation of electricity. The method includes bonding together two or more electrochemical cell components, such as plates, frames, flow fields, shims, gaskets, membranes and the like, to form subassemblies used to make an electrochemical cell stack. The bonding can be accomplished using either polymeric bonds (i.e., adhesives) where polymer and/or metal components are involved or metallurgical bonds (i.e., solder) where metal components are involved. The bonding provides tightly sealed cells and lower electronic contact resistances between components.

    Abstract: A closed loop heat transfer system located on the surface near the wellhead for transporting hot fluid through a tubing located in the annulus between the well casing and the outer surface of the production string. The tubing extends down along the production string to a coil submerged in the oil reservoir in the vicinity of the production pump and back to the surface for reheating and recirculation. The tubing provides heat transfer from the hot fluid to the production fluid, as well as the downhole pump and the region of the oil reservoir surrounding the pump. The system is preferably operated to transfer enough heat to the oil to prevent paraffins from coagulating and forming deposits on the production string or sucker rods, if used. The higher temperature lowers the viscosity of the oil and increases oil production.

The formulation is self-decontaminating and once dried can easily be wiped from the surface being decontaminated.
