Abstract: An improved thermoplastic nylon molding resin comprising intimately mixed nylon molding resin and glass reinforcing agents in the presence of polyethylene terephthalate resin.
Abstract: This invention relates to the use of a foamed polymeric material in the fabrication of solid-bodied, stringed musical instruments with the preferred material being a homogeneous body of foamed polystyrene having a density of from about 0.5 to about 6 pounds per cubic feet. Since the neck assembly must of necessity have greater structural strength than the body, it is contemplated using a relatively simple disconnect mechanism for coupling same to the body. Although the essence of the invention lies in the fact that with the foamed solid body additional sounding amplification means are unnecessary, electrical amplification can optionally be added to said instruments.
Abstract: Method for making a plug valve having a housing molded in place about a pre-formed rotary valvemember. The rotary valve member is molded with the mold parting lines lying in a plane containing the axis of the flow passageway. Around the passageway orifice, the mold parting line is eliminated by use of a core insert which forms a recessed region with an annular mold parting line spaced from the orifice. The housing includes a body portion which surrounds the rotary valve member and an annular lip seal member formed as a homogenous part of the body portion and extending inwardly adjacent the recessed region of the valve member. The inwardly extending portion of the lip seal member has the property of flexing to form a fluid-tight seal when the valve member is in its closed position.
Abstract: This invention relates to novel adhesive compositions and laminates produced therefrom, said adhesive comprising a vinyl acetate-acrylate or methacrylate emulsion polymer with a content of an ethylenically unsaturated acid ester of a polyol containing at least three hydroxyl groups, said ester should also include at least three unsaturated acid moieties.
Abstract: New emulsion polymers comprising vinyl acetate-acrylate or methacrylate emulsion polymer containing in the polymer an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated acid ester of a polyol. For example, pentaerythritol tri- and tetra-acrylate, trimethylolpropane triacrylate, hexanediol diacrylate, etc.

Abstract: Water soluble polyester coating compositions convertible to baked coatings characterized by chemical resistance, hardness and flexibility comprising a polyol component incorporating a minor proportion of pentaerythritol and a coupling agent constituted by phthalic anhydride. After neutralizing with a base the water soluble polyester can be interacted with a cross-linking agent, e.g., an aminoplast.
Abstract: A vapor phase process is provided for high yield conversion of C.sub.4 -hydrocarbons to maleic acid (anhydride) and acetic acid in the presence of a catalyst comprising a reduced calcined coprecipitate of a molybdenum compound and a phosphorus compound, and optionally the catalyst includes one or more compounds of metal elements selected from titanium, vanadium, niobium and bismuth.

Abstract: Aqueous polymeric emulsions are formed by the inter-polymerization reaction product of at least one monomer having a reactive CH.sub.2 =C< group (e.g., vinyl acetate and alkyl acrylates) and an alkyd resin which is modified by the incorporation therein of certain ethylenically unsaturated monomers.
Abstract: Pyridine is prepared by reacting acetaldehyde, ammonia and oxygen at elevated temperatures and in the presence of a condensation catalyst, the oxygen (or air) oxidatively demethylating, in situ, the picolines and/or higher condensation products produced along with pyridine. A second embodiment includes incorporating methanol in the above reaction mixture. A third embodiment includes incorporating isobutyraldehyde in the above reaction mixture. These processes obviate the need for formaldehyde as a reactant.
