  • Patent number: 5503458
Abstract: A portable infant chair includes upper and lower resilient wire frame members. The upper frame member is made up of a back and seat support portion and a lower leg support portion, and the lower frame member is made up of a ground-engaging portion with opposite sides terminating in upwardly and rearwardly inclined portions. Rotational connectors secure upper extremities of the inclined portions to the upper frame member such that the sides of the lower frame member are selectively movable between erect and collapsed orientations. The sides of the lower frame member fold inwardly in crossed overlying relation to one another against the upper frame member in the collapsed orientation. A cross member includes one end pivotally connected to a rearward end of a first of the sides and an opposite end provided with a clip for detachable engagement with either a latch bracket on a rearward end of a second of the sides in an erect orientation or alternatively with the first side in a collapsed orientation.

  • Patent number: 5501616
Abstract: An end connector for coaxial cables having inner and outer spaced concentric sleeves, the outer sleeve having axially spaced endless sealing rings along its inner wall surface portion adjacent to one end to which the end of the coaxial cable is inserted, and axially spaced serrations or gripping edges are disposed on the external wall surface of the inner sleeve in confronting relation to the ribs so that when the coaxial cable is inserted into the connector with the outer conductor and jacket in the annular space between the sleeves the outer sleeve can be crimped inwardly to cause the ribs to advance into uniform sealed engagement with the jacket. The depth of the ribs can be controlled according to the diameter or size of cable to which it is connected.

  • Patent number: 5499694
Abstract: A self-propelled passenger lift vehicle for transporting a mobility impaired passenger between a first location and first elevation and a second location and second elevation against an aircraft fuselage adjacent an aircraft door is disclosed. The vehicle comprises in combination a wheeled frame, a generally horizontal platform movably mounted on said frame having a leading edge portion and a support portion for supporting the passenger, a drive motor connected to at least one of the wheels for moving said vehicle from said first location to said second location, a brake mechanism connected to the at least one wheel for controllably stopping and preventing wheel rotation, and a position sensor in the leading edge portion of the platform for sensing the presence of the aircraft fuselage. The position sensor automatically actuates the brake to lock the drive wheel upon sensing contact with the aircraft fuselage. This feature minimizes damage to the aircraft due to operator error.

  • Patent number: 5494121
Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing the diameter of a well bore in a cavern well completion after a drill pipe has been removed from the well bore and a drill bit has been removed from the drill pipe in which a reaming tool is formed with one or more cutters of a length in excess of the radius of the previous well bore, the cutters being attached by a pin to a coupling at the lower end of the drill pipe, the cutters being in the form of flat cutter blades which are capable of moving from overlapping relation to one another into diametrically opposed perpendicular relation to the rotational axis of the drill pipe and coupling when the drill pipe is rotated. The rotating drill pipe can be raised or lowered to lengthen the enlarged well bore to form an increased surface area of pressurized formation which is open to communicate with the less pressurized interior of the well bore and thereby substantially increase production flow rates.

  • Patent number: 5494399
Abstract: A distributor apparatus is characterized by having a transfer starwheel with individual pockets which are successively advanced beneath a feeder unit, such as, a downstacker mechanism, each pocket having a ring gear and individual feed screw elements controlled by the ring gear to successively engage an outer rim of an individual can end advanced into the pocket by the downstacker and subsequently remove each end from the pocket through rotation of the ring gear when it moves into alignment with a discharge chute. One or more discharge chutes may be placed in the path of movement of the pockets of the transfer starwheel, and output level sensors at each discharge chute determine when ends are to be supplied to each chute.

  • Patent number: 5480593
Abstract: An air lift diffuser assembly is made up of an air lift tube and a fixed, non-rotating bubble-emitting diffuser horizontally spaced beneath an open end of the air lift tube, the air lift tube and diffuser being releasably positioned in centered relation to a casing which is submerged beneath a body of water and is dimensioned such that the annular space between the air lift tube and casing has a greater cross-sectional area than the cross-sectional area across the tube, and an air supply pipe extends downwardly through the annular space into communication with the diffuser whereby to direct air under pressure into the diffuser which discharges the air in the form of fine bubbles upwardly through the air lift tube where the bubbles become intimately mixed with the water and dispersed in the form of dissolved oxygen over a substantial area of the body of water above the assembly.

  • Patent number: 5479708
Abstract: A utensil holder for infants and toddlers is made up of a generally triangular handle having a hollow gripping area and a utensil-supporting portion at one side of the handle which converges forwardly and terminates in a socket end portion for insertion of a complementary shank end portion of a utensil. In another preferred form, an eating utensil is disposed with its eating surface facing in a direction substantially parallel to the longer dimension of the handle so that when the handle is grasped and held in a palmar, upright position by the infant, the eating surface can face upwardly for placement of food thereon and insertion into the infant's mouth. In the alternative, the utensil can form a permanent part of the supporting portion at one side of the handle but in either form the handle is longer in a direction transverse to the direction of entry of the utensil into the infant's mouth than the longest dimension across the infant's mouth to prevent lodging of the handle therein.

  • Patent number: 5454952
Abstract: A method of removing ash from sugar containing solutions comprises contacting the sugar containing solution against one side of an ultrafiltration membrane with a stripping fluid to strip away monovalent ions and low molecular weight sugars which pass through the membrane. The stripping fluid is contacted at high pressure against one side of a nanofiltration membrane which allows passage of monovalent ions and water only. The deashed retentate can be returned to sugar containing solution, pass through an ion exchange column or cause to contact one side of a high pressure ultrafiltration membrane which allows passage of water monovalent ions and low molecular weight sugars. The permeate from the high pressure ultrafiltration membrane can be subjected to ion exchange to provide a liquid sugar having a low ash content while the retentate can be evaporated to a sugar product. The use of the semipermeable membranes allows efficient deashing of sugar containing solutions (i.e.
