  • Patent number: 5146735
Abstract: A walk-behind power driven lawn mower having a transverse handlebar rearwardly of the mower, a pair of hand operated control levers located forwardly of and adjacent to the handlebar and extending generally parallel thereto for establishing the drive and applying the brakes to a pair of driven wheels of the lawn mower. A park brake lever is mounted between said control levers for simultaneously applying the brakes to the driven wheels through a connection between the park brake lever and the control levers. A releasable latch mechanism releasably holds the park brake lever in the braking position. Another control lever in the form of a bail is mounted to be pivoted rearwardly relative to the handlebar for engaging idler pulleys when the transmission is shifted to provide reverse movement. Each drive to the wheels includes a drive pulley and belt and another idler pulley for engaging the belt to establish drive when the transmission is shifted for forward movement.

  • Patent number: 5140784
Abstract: A tool guide temporarily attachable to vehicle body panels or other surfaces to provide a straight edge, and contour sander for use in connection with a straight edge. The tool guide includes an elongated member having a longitudinal edge surface for guiding a work tool, and suction cups mounted on tongues extending laterally from the body of the tool guide. The tongues are angled in relation to the body, so that the tongues exert a cantilever force urging the tool guide against a surface when the tongues are secured against the suction cups. The contour sander includes a number of flat blades mounted side-by-side and each having a longitudinal edge for contacting a contoured work surface. A clamp holds the blades in parallel juxtaposition and selectively loosens the blades for conforming contact with the contour. Finger grips are formed at the ends of the blades, allowing the operator to raise or lower any particular blade and obtain a sharper or more accurate reproduction of contour if desired.

  • Patent number: 5137389
Abstract: A clip is disclosed for mounting a flush plate such as a mounting tray or the like within a corresponding opening in an extruded frame member such as a transom bar, door frame, or the like. The clip includes a pair of tongue members held together in spaced apart relation by an interconnecting bridge member. The tongue members are inserted into corresponding channels defined in the extruded frame member adjacent the opening, and when the clip is thus mounted to the frame member, a portion of the clip extends into the opening. In the disclosed embodiment, the bridge member is located to abut the end of the extruded frame member to limit the depth to which the clip is inserted into the channels. With the clips thus mounted, the flush plate is fastened to the clips to secure the flush plate to the extruded frame member. The clip is less expensive to produce than two corresponding single tongued clips and requires only one installation step rather than two.

  • Patent number: 5136138
Abstract: A transistor failure selection circuit and structure for ease of maintenance. The disclosed circuit and structure reduce maintenance time and costs for a welding station. The circuit biases a specific selected transistor at a different operating point than any other transistor in a bank of transistors. Upon an overcurrent condition which exceeds the design current rating of the welding station the circuit causes the specific selected transistor to fail in preference to the failure of any other transistor located in the transistor bank. The selected transistor is mounted in a readily accessible location of the welding station and is easily replaced in the event of failure. This eliminates the need for the operator to remove the entire bank of transistors and/or other components or circuits typically found in a welding station in order to access and replace the failed transistor.

  • Patent number: 5136139
Abstract: A welding station for welding thin-walled copper-nickel pipe. An electronic welding station (10) has an output circuit (13) which provides arc welding power having the arc characteristics specified by a weld parameter selection circuit (12). A welding torch and feeder assembly (11) has a controller (20) which is responsive to a predetermined event, such as the passage of time since the start of the arc, or the average temperature of the pipe (25) as indicated by two temperature-measuring devices (30, 32). The controller (20) adjusts the wire feed speed, the pulse frequency, the pulse width, the welding voltage, the welding current and/or other parameters so as to cause the arc to have the parameters most desired for welding copper-nickel pipe. The present invention provides for a hotter arc for starting the welding operation, thereby obtaining good penetration and bonding, and a cooler arc for continuing the welding operation, thereby preventing burn-through of the pipe (25).

  • Patent number: 5134439
Abstract: A dual mode electrophotographic print engine. A voltage controller (25) provides operating voltage to a scorotron (27), which applies a charge to a photoreceptive medium. In a first mode a screen (40) is placed in a first position, out of the optical path between the image focusing device and the photoreceptive medium (45). This produces full exposure of the photoreceptive medium (45) to the focused image. This produces a latent image on the photoreceptive medium. Toner is then applied to the latent image to produce a developed image. In the second mode of operation, for producing half-tone copies, the screen (40) is inserted into the optical path. This reduces the exposure of the photoreceptive medium (45). To compensate for the reduced exposure the voltage controller (25) provides a second, lower voltage to the scorotron. This lower voltage compensates for the reduced exposure time so as to produce a high quality latent image. Toner is then applied to the latent image to produce a developed image.

  • Patent number: 5133219
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for obtaining adsorption data to be used for surface area and pore volume analysis. The apparatus and method utilize the differential pressures between a pair of dosing systems to indicate the amount of gas adsorbed by a sample. The system doses a sample chamber and a null chamber from essentially equal volumes of gas, and causes the chambers to be dosed such that any pressure difference between them, caused by adsorption, is eliminated. The resulting differential pressure between the essentially equal volumes of gas then indicates the amount of gas adsorbed by the sample. The system may be operated to dose in equilibrated increments or in a scanning mode in which adsorbate gas is continuously leaked into the sample chamber. A feedback circuit then controls dosing into the null chamber to eliminate the pressure difference caused by adsorption onto the sample surface.

  • Patent number: 5127207
Abstract: A case blank feed device used in case packaging assemblies is disclosed. The device employs a pair of parallel and spaced apart bars rotatably mounted at the bottom of a case blank container having a stack of case blanks. As the bottom blank is pulled from the bottom of the container, the roller bars decrease the friction associated with the weight of the stack. In addition, the blank feed device concentrates the vacuum force along the blank edges located parallel and proximate to the roller bars so that deflection of the blank is minimized.
