  • Patent number: 5100016
Abstract: Insulation material is configured to provide improved insulating properties in a shipping container. An insulated bottom section is placed along the bottom of a container under the contents of the container. An insulating blanket constructed of plastic sheets sealed to form pouches for containing paperboard and mineral wool is configured to have an inverted U-shape and is placed over a bottom half of the container. A top half of the container is then placed over the bottom half such that the legs of the inverted U-shaped material are between the overlapping sides of top and bottom of the container and the middle portion of the U-shaped material is between the top of the container and the contents within the container.

  • Patent number: 5099503
Abstract: Method and device for controlling the operations of a mammographic X-ray apparatus. In the apparatus the breast (4) to be photographed is pressed between a press plate (2) and a film cassette (5) or an equivalent depicting member. In the method the compression force (F) applied by the holder means to the breast (4) to be photographed, or a quantity that represents this force (F) indirectly, is measured. On the basis of the measurement, the velocity (V) of the compression movement of the press mechanism is regulated. The apparatus comprises a C-arm (1), at one of whose ends the X-ray tube (6) is placed and at the other end the film cassette (5). The C-arm (1) is rotatable around a shaft (8) by means of a motor (9). The device comprises a detector (3) or a series of detectors which measures the compression force and by means of which the operation of the press motor (7) for the breast holders is arranged to be controlled.

  • Patent number: 5099348
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring and testing the operation and configuration of a remote receiver in a utility management system, such as a load management system or a cable television subscriber control system. The receivers are responsive to encoded command signals to perform utility control functions such as remove electrical loads from the electrical distribution system or connect a subscriber to the CATV system. The receiver retrieves status information pertaining to the receiver, and transmits the status information over a data communications link to a hand-held operator display unit. The operator display unit receives the transmitted status information, and displays the received status information to the operator on a display.

  • Patent number: 5096112
Abstract: A wood reinforced corrugated paperboard shipping container with interlocking pallet to direct positioning of the container on the pallet and to interlock the container with the pallet. The pallet includes longitudinal runners and cross members. At least one cross member overhangs the side of a lower runner. The overhang portion of the cross member and the side of the runner together define a recess which receives an attaching strip that is connected to a lowermost portion of the wall of the container. In placing the container on the pallet, a beveled upper surface on the overhang portion of the cross member bears against the bottom surface of the attaching strip. The attaching strip thereby moves downwardly and out to move around the outside end of the overhang portion of the cross member and the back into the recess, thereby matingly interlocking the container to the pallet.

  • Patent number: 5090823
Abstract: A bearing assembly is disclosed in which a bearing having inner and outer races is seated in a manner which accommodates thermal expansion and contraction without allowing radial pressure to constrict the bearing. Two materials of differing coefficients of thermal expansion form the seat for the outer bearing race such that temperature variations cause the race to tilt around the ball of the bearing. The bearing assembly is particularly useful in rotary drive assemblies for antenna pedestals.

  • Patent number: 5086809
Abstract: A pipe coupling includes a cylinder with an axial joint and a sealing device for sealing the fluid pathways between a leak location and the outer surface of the coupling. The sealing device includes arcuate gaskets extending along the inner surface of the cylinder and between axial gaskets which may be adhered to either side of the cylinder's axial joint. A clamping assembly closes the coupling so that an area of overlap is formed between the axial gaskets, thereby sealing the axial joint. The area of overlap is approximately equal to the thickness of the arcuate gaskets so that the sealing device exerts a uniform circumferential pressure upon the pipe without buckling or deforming the seal. The sealing gasket having arcuate gaskets extending between the axial gaskets may be provided separately. The first axial gasket may then be positoned so as to overlap the outer surface of the other axial gasket, and a coupling may be fitted over the gasket apparatus without deforming the seal provided thereby.
