  • Patent number: 4259936
Abstract: A device for electronically controlling the intake air temperature of an internal combustion engine, featuring a temperature sensor in the clean air space of the filter, the signal from the sensor controlling an electromagnetically driven oscillator pump whose vacuum output adjusts the flapper of an air flow proportioning valve by means of a pneumatic actuator, until the correct ratio of cold and preheated raw air is admitted into the intake system for the establishment of an optimal combustion air temperature. An automatic lowering of this temperature under full-load operation is achieved by utilizing the negative pressure in the air intake manifold as a control means to shift the oscillating armature of the oscillator pump away from its maximum output position. In an air intake system for fuel-injected engines, a similar result is achieved by means of an air flow sensor whose output signal is superimposed on the control signal from the temperature sensor.

  • Patent number: 4231343
Abstract: A device for adjusting the intake air temperature of a carburetor-equipped internal combustion engine whose air intake system has a flapper valve in a duct junction admitting cold raw air and/or preheated raw air to the intake filter, depending on the raw air temperature, the flapper valve position being controlled by a pneumatic membrane actuator which receives negative pressure from the intake manifold, via a vacuum line with a thermostat-controlled relief valve responsive to the temperature of the air mixture. In the drive connection between the membrane actuator and the flapper is arranged a wax thermostat which increases or decreases the effective length of the connection in response to the ambient air temperature, thereby adding the thermostat displacements to the actuator displacements, the effective length of the drive connection being further adjustable by means of a threaded connection which is arranged between the membrane support body of the actuator and the wax thermostat.

  • Patent number: 4226372
Abstract: A device for the destruction of microfilm and similar data carriers with microimage impressions which is designed to shred the data carriers by means of a rotating shredding cutter in the form of a plain milling cutter whose teeth move past a transversely extending stationary cutting edge. A strip feeding unit advances the data carrier strip past this cutting edge along a guide plate, said unit including a driven endless conveying member which forms a conveying gap with the guide plate. A second stationary cutting edge forms a second cutting point behind the first cutting point. The strip feeding unit is self-contained and movable against a spring bias in relation to the main frame and its guide plate, so that a safety switch, responding to such movement, stops the device when too many data carriers are fed into the device simultaneously.
