Abstract: Disclosed are the uses of polyphosphate solutions as fountain solutions in the dampener roll systems of offset presses and as rub-up solutions for preparing offset plates for storage without corrosion. In the fountain solution application of the invention, the polyphosphate concentration may run from about 0.6 g/l to about 42 g/l; in the plate storage application of the invention it may run from about 6 g/l to about 66 g/l. Particular polyphosphates which are useful in the invention include sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate and aminomethylenephosphonate.
Abstract: An electrical two-way transmission system and method of constructing an electrical coaxial conductor assembly for a tubular fluid conductor composed of lengths of electrically conductive pipe having their ends connected in spaced relationship by external couplers, such as a well drill string having screwthreaded coupling collars connecting the ends of adjacent lengths of drill pipe, wherein said pipe and couplers provides an outer electrical conductor.
Abstract: A wall structure having a framework, for supporting a plurality of panels in horizontal and vertical alignment, the wall structure being installable in an opening of a building structure to close such opening with the panels being installable in the framework either from the exterior or the interior of the building structure. A wall structure may also be installed on the exterior of a building structure as a curtain wall. Frame members are made up of interior and exterior box-like sections, which are connected together by insulating clips, working in connecting flanges on the sections, thus providing thermal isolation of the parts. The panels are gripped by gasketed flanges on the sections. Specific proportioning of the connecting flanges and gasketed flanges provides a metal free zone facilitating deglazing and providing room for internal water diverters.
Abstract: Disclosed is a narrow frame wall structure having panel gripping mullions formed of extruded metal. Typical vertical mullions comprise a mullion proper with a glazing pocket on one side and one half of a glazing pocket on the other side, a mullion stop attached to the mullion proper after installation of a panel, and a mullion filler snap-locked to the mullion proper and the mullion stop to provide the remaining half of the second glazing pocket, thereby providing easy glazing and adequate glass bite notwithstanding the narrowness of the mullion. Joints between vertical and horizontal mullions are formed with joint pins positioned internally of the horizontal mullions on internal splines, and abutting, passing into or through, the vertical mullion, with predrilled screw holes in the pin so located that a screw hole is positioned a predetermined distance from the side of the vertical mullion in every standard location of the pin.
Abstract: Disclosed is a water soluble transfer material of the kind in which transfer is accomplished by localized application of pressure on a portion of the material to implant or transfer part of it to a selected surface. The transfer material is a multi-component mixture including a non-resinated dry pigment having an average particle size between one and five microns, a first polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight in the range of 2,000 to 4,500, a second polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight in the range of 6,000 to 7,500, a third polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight in the range of 400 to 800, a non-ionic emulsifier or plasticizer, and optionally an inert filler. Articles incorporating the transfer material include seamtress' transfer paper, business carbon paper, crayons, lecture pencils, and the like. The transferred markings are readily removed from the receptor surface by water when this is so desired.
Abstract: Disclosed is a compact heat exchanger particularly useful in a vaporizer application, such as a liquefied petroleum gas fuel system. The working fluid side of the exchanger includes a vapor film area of restricted cross section, which may be located at the upstream end, downstream end, or in a mid-region of the exchanger. The vapor film area effectively dams or blocks passage of liquid droplets and thereby aids in the vaporization process.

Abstract: Disclosed is a multi-functional grid structure for use in a vapor-liquid contact apparatus which includes a plurality of layers of relatively thin ribs. Some layers of ribs are flange-free and act as liquid distributors. Some layers of ribs include ribs with flanges and act as vapor-liquid contact devices. Some layers of ribs may have ribs with flanges having upturned edges which form channels, and such layers act as liquid collectors. A single grid structure performing these multiple functions normally requires only a single support structure, thereby saving on tower structure and cost.

Abstract: Disclosed are cell-type ignition devices for Otto cycle internal combustion engines, said devices having cylindrical cells with end orifices communicating with the engine combustion chamber. The devices include housing and mounting means for thermally isolating the cell from the cooled engine wall and the ambient atmosphere. Critical ratios for cell dimensions are disclosed. Some embodiments are equipped with supplementary glow or spark ignition means for starting and warm-up. In some embodiments, sleeves or external protubances on the cell wall are employed to regulate ignition timing by controlling heat transfer.
Abstract: Disclosed is a plenum starter piece useful for attaching conduit to a planar plenum. The starter piece includes a body member which is a relatively short cylindrical piece having an external flange adapted to fit against the surface of the plenum and to accommodate fastening means. The outer end of the body member is proportioned for telescoping engagement with a conduit. Telescoped into the flanged end of the body member is an insert having a projecting end which is proportioned to fit through and engage the edges of a hole cut in the plenum.
Abstract: A cutting head for forming finger joints in the ends of successively presented boards moved into engagement therewith, is slidably mounted for vertical reciprocation between two preselected cutting positions. The movement is imparted by a pressure fluid actuator which is cyclically actuated to urge the cutting head alternately into the preselected positions after each cutting operation. The apparatus facilitates shaping consecutive work pieces respectively into left and right hand mating finger joints with a single cutting head, requiring no manual effort or set-up between pieces.

Abstract: Disclosed is a glue applicator for applying glue to an uneven generally vertical surface having a generally upright rotary brush with a compartmented doctor block at one side thereof. Glue is pumped into the feed compartment and onto the brush which then wipes it onto the work piece. Glue recovery means are provided below the brush for recycling unused glue, and a shield is preferably provided around part of the brush to minimize splattering. The doctor block compartment may be in the form of an open-sided tube, or may comprise a series of serrations in the doctor block.
Abstract: Improved cutter elements for drill bits of the type having two to four conical-shaped cutters mounted in a supporting body for rotation about their respective axes with their apices inclined downwardly-inwardly toward the axis of rotation of the body; the cutter elements are spaced apart from one another both axially and circumferentially of the substantially conical exterior of each conical-shaped cutter and, usually, disposed in spaced circumferential rows, each cutter element including a pair of interacting chisel or wedge-shaped teeth intersecting each other--preferably at their medial portions in perpendicular relationship--coextensive from crest to root and having their respective crests extending approximately radially of the axis of rotation of said cutter and generally circumferentially of said cutter axis; the circumferentially--oriented teeth have coextensive cutting edges at their ends and are adapted to cut through ridges created in the formation by the radially-oriented teeth and laterally displ
Abstract: A pair of torque driven pneumatic tires serially feeds pre-assembled finger jointed boards, aligned end to end, along a path with sufficient force to overcome a drag force imparted to the boards at a point disposed in the longitudinal direction of travel. The drag force is produced by a retarding unit positioned downstream of the tires for engaging opposite surfaces of the boards passing therethrough with conforming bearing surfaces and producing uniform normal forces and friction thereupon. The boards along the path between the points of feed and drag are thus subjected to longitudinal compression facilitating complete interengagement in the finger joint.
