  • Patent number: 8073282
Abstract: A device has a single scaling filter to filter a video signal once to perform both sharpening and scaling. A memory stores original scaling filter coefficients for the scaling filter. An integrated circuit calculates new sharpening-scaling filter coefficients derived from the original scaling filter coefficients and one of sharpening filter coefficients for a sharpening filter and a sharpening strength and applies the new sharpening-scaling filter coefficients to the single scaling filter.

  • Patent number: 8074158
Abstract: To perform erasure detection for an intermittently active transport channel with unknown format, a receiver determines an energy metric and a symbol error rate (SER) for a received block with CRC failure. The receiver computes uncorrelated random variables u and v for the received block based on the energy metric and SER, the estimated means and standard deviations of the energy metric and SER, and a correlation coefficient indicative of the correlation between the energy metric and SER. The receiver then evaluates the uncorrelated random variables u and v based on at least one decision criterion and declares the received block to be an erased block or a DTX block based on the result of the evaluation. The decision criterion may be defined based on a target probability of false alarm and adjusted based on another metric, such as a zero state bit, for the received block.

  • Patent number: 8064535
Abstract: A high speed serial interface is provided. In one aspect, the high speed serial interface uses three phase modulation for jointly encoding data and clock information. Accordingly, the need for de-skewing circuitry at the receiving end of the interface is eliminated, resulting in reduced link start-up time and improved link efficiency and power consumption. In one embodiment, the high speed serial interface uses fewer signal conductors than conventional systems having separate conductors for data and clock information. In another embodiment, the serial interface allows for data to be transmitted at any speed without the receiving end having prior knowledge of the transmission data rate. In another aspect, the high speed serial interface uses polarity encoded three phase modulation for jointly encoding data and clock information. This further increases the link capacity of the serial interface by allowing for more than one bit to be transmitted in any single baud interval.

  • Patent number: 8045615
Abstract: This disclosure describes deblock filtering techniques in which an in-loop deblock filter of a first codec is used as a post deblock filter of a second codec. A number of techniques are also described to facilitate input parameter adjustments and allow for the effective use of the filter with both codecs. The techniques can simplify the architecture of a device that includes multiple codecs operating according to different coding standards. Specifically, the different codecs can use the same deblocking filter regardless of whether the coding standard calls for in-loop filtering or whether post filtering is used. For example, a filter designed as an in-loop deblocking filter for a codec that complies with the ITU-T H.264 coding standard can be used as a post deblocking filter for MPEG-4 video.

  • Patent number: 7962182
Abstract: A technique for adjusting or modifying content delivery to devices is provided, thereby offering a degree of power consumption control in such devices. The device can determine a need to modify power consumption, either in response to an input or via detection of an unfavorable power supply condition. In response, the device sends a request to an infrastructure for at least one reduced rate data stream. Because the at least one reduced rate data stream requires less processing power when undergoing decoding operations, the device subsequently consumes less power. In one embodiment of the present invention, the determination of the unfavorable power supply condition may be based on a configurable power condition profile. Furthermore, subsequent to receiving the at least one reduced rate data stream, the device may provide a request to the infrastructure for at least one increased rate data stream.

  • Patent number: 6766142
Abstract: A wireless communication device receives audio data from a base station via a radio frequency (RF) communication link (i.e., a forward link) and transmits audio data to the base station via the RF communication link (i.e., a reverse link). The wireless communication device uses the inherent functionality of the reverse link, including an audio input device (120) to determine whether the wireless communication device is operating in a high noise environment. A signal analyzer (124) analyzes the audio signal on the reverse link and determines whether the ambient noise level exceeds predetermined threshold. If so, the signal analyzer (124) activates a filter (126) to filter the audio signal being provided to an audio output transducer (122). Band limiting the audio signal provided to the audio output transducer (122) improves intelligibility of the audio signal in the presence of noise.

  • Patent number: 6757864
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for efficiently reading and storing state metrics in memory to enhance high-speed ACS Viterbi decoder implementations. The method includes applying an addressing scheme that determines the address locations of source state metrics during a process cycle. The source state metrics are then read from the address locations during the process cycle and applied to an add-compare-select butterfly operation of a Viterbi algorithm implementation to generate target state metrics. The method then stores each of the target state metrics into the address locations previously occupied by the source state metrics. The method further provides an addressing scheme that determines the address locations of the source state metrics based on a process cycle counter that is incremented and rotated in accordance with the process cycle.

  • Patent number: 6754509
Abstract: The dual microprocessor system includes one microprocessor configured to perform wireless telephony functions and another configured to perform personal digital assistant (PDA) functions and other non-telephony functions. A memory system and a digital signal processor (DSP) are shared by the microprocessors. By providing a shared memory system, data required by both data microprocessors is conveniently available to both of the microprocessors and their peripheral components thereby eliminating the need to provide separate memory subsystems and further eliminating the need to transfer data back and forth between the separate memory subsystems. By providing a shared DSP, separate DSP devices need not be provided, yet both microprocessors can take advantage of the processing power of the DSP. In a specific example described herein, the microprocessors selectively program the DSP to perform, for example, vocoder functions, voice recognition functions, handwriting recognition functions, and the like.

  • Patent number: 6754290
Abstract: The present invention is a novel and improved technique for performing coding with particular application to turbo, or iterative, coding techniques. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, interleaving is performed by generating the address of a memory using a PN state generator. Data is written into a memory in sequential order, and then read out using addresses specified by the PN state generator. To deinterleave, the interleaved data is written into a memory using addresses specified by the PN state generator, and then read out in sequential order. A set of PN state generators that provide excellent coding performance is provided.

  • Patent number: 6735240
Abstract: A deskew buffer 410 arrangement in a CDMA receiver allows for accurate combining of symbols from a plurality of demodulator fingers, 402 and 404, without any symbol losses when the data rate is changed. A single deskew buffer 410 is coupled to a plurality of demodulator fingers, each of which demodulate an assigned multipath. The symbols are written into the deskew buffer 410 according to a PN count value modified by a predetermined bit pattern. The demodulator finger is able to demodulate a plurality of data rates corresponding to a plurality of Walsh lengths. Each data rate is assigned a corresponding deskew index. The PN count value represents an address within the deskew buffer 410. The lower bits of the PN count, where the number of bits corresponds to the deskew index, are truncated and replaced with the predetermined bit pattern. In one embodiment the predetermined bit pattern is all ones.
