  • Patent number: 8112900
Abstract: An application for a hearing aid drying/disinfecting system includes a closable container with an internally mounted ultraviolet lamp for disinfecting the hearing aid. A heating element creates an internal temperature that is higher than ambient temperature and a fan circulates air through vents from the outside of the container over the hearing aid and back out, thereby drying the hearing aid contained within the drying/disinfecting system. The vents are positioned to reduce ultraviolet emissions out of the container.

  • Patent number: 8078420
Abstract: A method and apparatus for authenticating items having a security mark containing a DNA fragment to prevent fraud uses a Raman spectrometer to generate a response spectrum from monochrome incident beam on the security mark on an item. Gross fluorescence is removed from the security mark response spectrum to produce a Raman security mark response spectrum. Peaks in the Raman security mark response spectrum are detected to generate Raman security mark peak data. The Raman security mark peak data is compared to a Raman peak library to determine if there is a match. The item is indicated as being authentic if a match of the Raman security mark peak data is found in the Raman peak library.

  • Patent number: 8043026
Abstract: An application for a flow control system includes a tapered plunger situated within an conduit. The conduit is open to a downstream drainage system. The tapered plunger is buoyant, assisted by one or more floats attached such that, when the water level around the flow control system increases to a pre-determined level above a top rim of the conduit, the tapered plunger lifts due to the buoyancy. In such, the flow rate is maintained substantially constant. At the emergency level, alternate drain systems provide increased drainage to reduce the potential of flooding.
