  • Patent number: 6128046
Abstract: In this invention, when the portion from which a key signal .alpha. is to be generated of picture is caused to be foreground F, the portion except for the above is caused to be background B, and pixel value of pixels constituting that picture is designated at C, the key signal .alpha. is generated so as to satisfy the relational expression C'=(F-B).alpha.'('(prime) represents differentiation). In more practical sense, a change detecting section 10 calculates change C' of pixel value between pixels constituting picture, and an F-B detecting section 30 calculates difference F-B between the foreground and the background. In addition, an integral value calculating section 40 divides the change C' by the difference F-B to integrate the result obtained by divisional operation to thereby determine key signal .alpha.. As a result, precise key signal can be obtained in this invention.

  • Patent number: 6124976
Abstract: The invention provides a head mounted display apparatus and a voltage controlling method for the head mounted display apparatus by which supply of a power supply voltage to circuit components is controlled to reduce the power consumption. The head mounted display apparatus includes an image displaying section for being mounted on the head of a user and positioned in front of the eyes of the user, a power supply section for supplying a power supply voltage, and a control section for controlling the power supply voltage to be supplied from the power supply section. Whether or not the eyes of the user look away from an image formed by the image displaying section is detected from a portion of the head of user in the proximity of the eyes, and, when it is detected that the eyes of the user look away from the image display section, the supply of the power supply voltage to the image displaying section is interrupted while the detection operation remains operative by continued supply of the power supply voltage.

  • Patent number: 6125187
Abstract: Disclosed howling eliminating apparatus comprises frequency analyzing means 32 for detecting a frequency which causes howling, band eliminating means 20 for eliminating a band including the howling frequency detected by the frequency analyzing means, and controlling means 30 for controlling both the frequency analyzing means and the band eliminating means in their characteristics. The frequency analyzing means is controlled to divide input frequencies into a plurality of wide bands, detect howling status in each of the divided wide bands to isolate one wide band suspected to include the howling frequency. When the one wide band causing the howling is isolated, the frequency analyzing means divides the suspected wide band into a plurality of narrow bands, and detects the howling frequency in one of the narrow bands. The band eliminating means is controlled to eliminate the narrow band including the howling frequency. The apparatus thus shortens the time it takes to detect howling with a minimum of hardware.

  • Patent number: 6121096
Abstract: A process for forming implanted regions at an optimal location in a semiconductor substrate underneath a patterned polysilicon gate of an MOS transistor. The process includes steps of first providing a semiconductor substrate (e.g. a silicon wafer) with a gate oxide layer on its surface, followed by the formation of a polysilicon gate layer on the gate oxide layer. An additional oxide layer is subsequently formed on the polysilicon gate layer. The resulting structure is then patterned to form a patterned additional oxide layer and a patterned polysilicon gate layer, all of which are subsequently covered by a conformal silicon nitride layer. Next, the conformal silicon nitride layer is anisotropically etched to form spacers on the sidewalls of the patterned structure.

  • Patent number: 6112180
Abstract: The invention provides data transmission and reception methods and apparatus by which timer reservation of a program can be performed readily. A data signal including program information generated from a program information generation section is added to modulate an audio information signal supplied from an audio signal supply section by an addition modulation section. In the addition modulation, the audio information signal is phase modulated at a delineating point of sound thereof such as chimes or musical sound with the data signal. Together with the audio information signal phase modulated with the data signal, the audio information signal prior to the phase modulation is transmitted as a reference signal to be used for demodulation.

  • Patent number: 6107489
Abstract: Novel compounds comprising chemically reactive intermediates which can react with available reactive functionalities on blood components to form covalent linkages, where the resulting covalently-bound conjugates are found to have renin inhibition activity are provided. Specifically, the renin inhibitor compounds of the present invention are tripeptide derivatives of a known renin inhibitor which can be covalently linked to chemically reactive functionalities on various blood components. The conjugated renin inhibitors thereby have extended lifetimes in the bloodstream, as compared to the unconjugated parent drug, and are, therefore, capable of maintaining renin inhibitory activity for extended periods of time as compared to the unconjugated parent drug. Also provided herein are methods for inhibiting renin activity in vivo comprising administering to the bloodstream of a mammalian host the novel compounds of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 6103097
Abstract: Control of lead contamination in residential water supplies is accomplished by cathodic protection of lead-containing piping and lead-containing fixtures. Specifically, a partially insulated wire is inserted into lead-containing service lateral piping. Application of a DC current to the partially insulated wire causes the wire to act as an anode and transforms the walls of the pipe into the cathode, thereby protecting against corrosion. Alternatively, a sacrificial anode is inserted into a lead-containing fixture. The electrical potential generated by corrosion of this sacrificial anode transforms the walls of the fixture into a cathode, thereby preventing corrosion. Carbonate scaling built-up prior to the initiation of cathodic protection may be removed by temporarily blocking the water pipe and introducing cleaning chemicals.

  • Patent number: 6104321
Abstract: Efficient encoding method for carrying out variable bit allocation between channels to samples in the time region or samples in the frequency region of a plurality of channels with respect to information signals of a plurality of channels (CH1.about.CH8). This efficient encoding method decomposes bit allocation quantity to channels (CH1, CH3, CH6) in which bit quantity greater than fixed reference quantity (e.g., 147 kbps) is allocated into first bit allocation quantity which is not above 147 kbps and the remaining second bit allocation quantity (bit allocation quantity above 147 kbps) to quantize them. By using this efficient encoding method, it is possible to reproduce, in the state of high sound quality, by making use of inter-channel bit allocation, compressed signals in which sound quality is improved by using inter-channel bit allocation technology with respect to compression of multi-channel system.
