  • Patent number: 6063169
Abstract: A control device for molecular sieve on-board oxygen generating systems measures both temperature and pressure of the inlet air of an oxygen generating system. An electronic control unit applies pressure limits to a pressure measurement signal and combines it with a temperature measurement signal to produce a composite analog signal responsive to both temperature and pressure inlet air conditions. This analog signal is linearly converted to a frequency signal, whereupon the frequency signal is divided by a constant in order to produce a drive signal for control of the absorb/vent bed cycle valves. Composition control is achieved by venting product mixture as required. Inlet air pressures down to 5 PSIG (pounds per square inch gauge) produce correct system operation, and the quantity of conditioned air required is automatically limited so that system efficiency is higher than prior art systems.

  • Patent number: 5892879
Abstract: At the transmitter side, carrier waves are modulated according to an input signal for producing relevant signal points in a signal space diagram. The input signal is divided into, two, first and second, data streams. The signal points are divided into signal point groups to which data of the first data stream are assigned. Also, data of the second data stream are assigned to the signal points of each signal point group. A difference in the transmission error rate between first and second data streams is developed by shifting the signal points to other positions in the space diagram expressed at least in the polar coordinate system. At the receiver side, the first and/or second data streams can be reconstructed from a received signal. In TV broadcast service, a TV signal is divided by a transmitter into, low and high, frequency band components which are designated as a first and a second data streams respectively.

  • Patent number: 5887188
Abstract: In a multiprocessor system in which a master processor and a plurality of slave processors access in common a page mode memory, each slave processor functions such that upon completion of a memory access by the slave processor, the page address which was being accessed prior to that access by the slave processor is reloaded into the page buffer of the memory. Since in general each access by a slave processor is preceded by and followed by an access by the master processor, generally to the same page of the memory, this reduces the number of long accesses that must be executed by the master processor as a result of intervening accesses by slave processors.

  • Patent number: 5869409
Abstract: A gel-fiber glass (GFG) is a newly-formed sol-gel glass polymerized from tetramethoxysilane on the surface of activated glass wool fibers or activated fibrous glass. GFG is a support for trapped chemical or biochemical reagents. A thin layer of reagents trapped in gel glass during its preparation is present on the surface of a lattice of glass fibers. Columns for affinity chromatography were prepared from the GFG membranes with entrapped antigens or antibodies and were used to isolate different proteins, including tumor-associated antigens; GFG membrane demonstrated high effectiveness and stability, and can isolate proteins in extremely high amounts. The membranes can be used in diagnostic practice, generation of specific antibodies and therapy.

  • Patent number: 5848198
Abstract: Data from multiple image sources are processed with a memory storing a library of data catalogs, each corresponding to one of the image sources. The catalogs have entries corresponding to the images. Each catalog entry has signal values specifying how to (1) generate an Analysis Image corresponding to the source image, (2) generate binary images from the Analysis Image, (3) model the binary images with fractal mathematics, and (4) generate an output signal related to the Original Image. The Analysis Image contains transformed pixel data in which pixels correspond spatially to the Original Image but in which gray-scale planes are more easily segmented and modeled. Binary Images conforming to standards specified in the catalog are constructed as segments of gray-scale planes within the Analysis Image. Binary models are formed with Hutchinson operators suitably constrained to force finite approximations to attractors to conform to standards specified in the catalog.

  • Patent number: 5827191
Abstract: A method for monitoring a volume of milk during breast feeding utilizes an elastic nipple shaped cover applied over a nipple area of a woman's breast with holes in the cover positioned above the nipple area for passage of milk to the baby's mouth. A micro measurement volume sensor is located in a space between the nipple and the elastic cover holes to measure the volume of milk flowing therethrough. Data from the micro measurement volume sensor is converted into a calibrated volumetric equivalent corresponding to milk volume data indicative of the milk volume. This milk volume data may be displayed in real time on a display monitor.

  • Patent number: 5806403
Abstract: A uniflow engine has a plurality of cylinders disposed symmetrically around a common crankshaft connected to pistons reciprocating in the cylinders. In response to the availability of a working fluid vapor at a predetermined condition, such as a high pressure or temperature, incoming vapor is supplied to those cylinders in which the respective pistons are in their working strokes to thereby initiate rotation of the crankshaft in which the crankshaft had stopped last. Once rotation is initiated and a predetermined mode change speed attained in a "start-up model" by engine operation from start, vapor inlet valves are controlled to change engine operation over to a "running mode". In the "start-up mode" incoming vapor is admitted over a substantial portion of the piston working stroke, whereas in the "running mode" vapor inflow is terminated relatively early in the working stroke so that a vapor change does work in expending against the piston.

  • Patent number: 5796486
Abstract: The presence and absence of a semiconductor wafer on a wafer holder in a vacuum chamber having an optically transparent window is detected by an optical system including a source of optical energy positioned outside the chamber and a receiver for the optical energy positioned outside the chamber. A light path extends from the source through the window and an opening in the wafer holder when no wafer is on the wafer holder. The optical path is bent downstream of the wafer holder, thence continues back through another opening in the wafer holder, and through the window to the receiver. The optical receiver is positioned and arranged so optical energy reflected from a wafer (even a wafer having dispersive mirror properties) in situ on the wafer holder cannot be reflected or otherwise incident on the optical receiver.

  • Patent number: 5793162
Abstract: A load including a plasma discharge in a vacuum plasma processing chamber is matched to an r.f. source that supplies sufficient power to the discharge to maintain the discharge. A matching network connected between the source and a plasma excitation component of the chamber includes first and second variable reactances. A microprocessor causes the value of the first reactance to be varied while the value of the other reactance stays constant until power reflected from the load to output terminals of the source is minimized. The microprocessor causes the value of the second reactance to then be varied while the value of the first reactance stays constant until reflected power is minimized. The reactance values are alternately changed until the reflected minimum power does not change, at which time there is a match. To initiate the discharge, the microprocessor causes the value of the one reactance to change while the value of the other reactance stays constant.

  • Patent number: RE36487
Abstract: The craft is for hovering flight, vertical takeoff and landing, and horizontal forward flight. It has a tail-sitting fuselage and a ducted fan mounted to the fuselage aft to provide propulsion in both (a) hovering and vertical flight and (b) horizontal forward flight. At each side is a floating wing, supported from the fuselage for passive rotation (or an actuator-controlled optimized emulation of such rotation) about a spanwise axis, to give lift in forward flight. The fuselage attitude varies between vertical in hovering and vertical flight, and generally horizontal in forward flight. Preferably the fuselage is not articulated; there is just one fan, the sole source of propulsion, rotating about only an axis parallel to the fuselage; and thrust-vectoring control vanes operate aft of the fan.
