Abstract: This invention relates to a stable pesticidal microemulsion formulation comprising from about 0.01 to about 25% by weight of an insect growth regulator, for example methoprene, S-methoprene, hydroprene and/or S-hydroprene, and from about 0.1 to about 5.0% by weight of an active ingredient, for example pyrethroids or permethrins, and from about 3 to 50% by weight of one or more surfactants with a hydrophile-lipophile balance value of 6 or higher, and from about 25 to 98% by weight of water wherein the insect growth regulator and active ingredient are dispersed in the surfactant(s) forming an oil phase which is in turn dispersed in water and forms discrete micelles in the range of about 0.001 to about 0.5 micrometers. This invention also teaches a method of applying the stable pesticidal microemulsion on animals to control ticks and fleas.

Abstract: Anti-microbial proteins isolated from sugar beet, wherein the anti-microbial proteins exclude chitinases and glucanases. Said proteins include a pure protein selected from those depicted in SEQ ID Nos 2, 5 and 8, or a functionally equivalent analogue thereof in which one or more amino acids have been added, substituted or removed without substantially reducing the protein's anti-microbial activity, or mixtures of such proteins or analogues. A synergistic anti-fungal effect is observed if at least one of the AX proteins is combined with a WIN protein. The invention also provides recombinant DNA comprising a sequence encoding a protein according to the invention, a vector comprising said DNA and transformed plants comprising said DNA. The invention further provides an anti-microbial composition containing one or more of the said proteins, and a process for combatting fungi or bacteria which comprises exposing them to said proteins or compositions.

Abstract: Novel polypeptides are isolated from the venom of the parasitic wasp, Bracon hebetor, and are designated Brh-I to Brh-V. These polypeptides are paralytic and/or toxic to insects. The entire amino acid sequence of Brh-I and the DNA encoding it is also determined. These polypeptides may be cloned into a baculovirus, and used for insect control.
