Patent number: 6064577Abstract: A belt clip (100) attaches to a battery housing of a communication device to be worn by a user. The belt clip (100) includes a base (104) and a flexible spring loaded latch (106) having an opening. The base (104) is comprised of a pair of rails (108). The pair of rails (108) attach to a battery housing (116) via a pair of undercuts (120). The belt clip (100) is prevented from moving due to the opening of the latch slipped and hooked over a ramped post (124) as the belt clip is slid, from the bottom to the top of the battery, through the pair of undercuts (120) formed by a pair of protrusions that are integrally raised from the top surface of the slim body on opposed sides of the ramping post (124) for providing a belt clip guiding slot. The sliding action is continued, within the slot, until the latch is pressed against and mounted on the ramping post (124).Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1998Date of Patent: May 16, 2000Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Douglas Wayne Moskowitz, Faris Habbaba

Patent number: 6035005Abstract: A baseband demodulator receives inphase and quadrature signals I (116) and Q (117) representing a phase angle and amplitude. The demodulator (114) includes a discrete time continuous amplitude circuit (223, 253, 260) coupled to the quadrature generator to extract a sign information by processing the quadrature components (116 and 118). An accumulator 404 uses the sign information to manipulate predetermined phase angles stored at a memory component 402 to determine the phase angle carried by the I and Q components (116 and 118). As such, the need for up converters or complex analog-to-digital converters is eliminated in direct conversion receivers.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1997Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Babak Bastani, Edwin E. Patent number: 6025804Abstract: An antenna (100) includes a radiating element (202) covered with a protective jacket having at least one pocket selectively located therein. The at least one pocket (102) is filled with a material (105) having an absorptive index substantially higher than the index of the protective jacket (102). This material imposes substantial restriction to the free radiation of radio frequency energy. Conversely, the remainder of the jacket (102) with no pockets provides for the unrestricted radiation of the radio frequency energy therethrough. As a result the antenna (100) directionally radiates energy without the use of reflectors or additional radiating elements.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1995Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: James Lynn Davis, Robert W. Pennisi, Glenn F. Urbish

Patent number: 5978661Abstract: A transmitter circuit including an oscillator circuit (30) having at least one input for receiving at least one modulation signal and an output (32) for providing a modulated signal. A modulation circuit (13) is operably coupled to the at least one input of the oscillator circuit (30) for providing the at least one modulation signal and a feedback path (34) between the oscillator circuit (30) and the modulation circuit (13) provides a representation of the modulated signal output from the oscillator circuit (30) to the modulation circuit (13). In response to the modulated signal, the modulation circuit (13) automatically adjusts an amplitude level of the modulation signal.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Alfred Caspers, Norbert Roettger

Patent number: 5893029Abstract: To generate a fixed frequency offset in a direct conversion receiver (200) a phase ramp representing the frequency offset if generated. This phase ramp is combined with the demodulated phase component of a received signal. A phase wrap detection and compensation circuit (224) is capable of detecting and compensating for phase wrap that occur in the phase ramp by differentiating the input and detecting when a phase wrap is about to occur and causes a switch (316) to flip between two conditions. A first condition couples the phase ramp to the output. A second condition compensates when a wrap around has been detected. As such, a VCO (218) produces a local oscillator having a fixed frequency offset that is immune from locking problems that occur when a phase wrap is introduced.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1997Date of Patent: April 6, 1999Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventor: Babak Bastani
