  • Patent number: 8244085
Abstract: Systems and devices using diffractive and optionally refractive elements to launch an optical signal with a controlled amplitude and phase distribution into a multimode optical fiber for improved modal dispersion are provided. More particularly, optical ports, transmitter optical subassemblies (TOSAs), and transceivers use integrated diffractive and optionally refractive elements to launch a helically propagating light distribution, also known as a vortex launch. One embodiment includes a monolithic transparent port that generally includes: a lens on a first surface for receiving and collimating or focusing an optical signal; and a diffractive surface pattern for receiving the optical signal from the lens and launching the optical signal into a multimode optical fiber with a controlled intensity and phase distribution. Alternatively, the lens can be added as a separated component or omitted altogether while the diffractive surface pattern is formed on either the laser or fiber receptacle sides of the port.

  • Patent number: 8244030
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a surveying system for noncontact coordinate measurement on the object surface of an object to be surveyed in an object coordinate system. With a 3D image recording unit, a first three-dimensional image of a first area section of the object surface is electronically recorded in a first position and first orientation, the first three-dimensional image being composed of a multiplicity of first pixels, with which in each case a piece of depth information is coordinated. The first position and first orientation of the 3D image recording unit in the object coordinate system are determined by a measuring apparatus coupled to the object coordinate system. First 3D object coordinates in the object coordinate system are coordinated with the first pixels from the knowledge of the first 3D image coordinates and of the first position and first orientation of the 3D image recording unit.

  • Patent number: 8244124
Abstract: An eye safety mechanism for use with a bi-directional data cable having an electrical interface at least one (but potentially both) ends, despite the fact that the cable communicates over much of its length using a bi-directional optical channel. Upon power-up, the eye safety mechanism determines whether or not a loss of signal condition is present on an optical receive channel of the bi-directional data cable. If the loss of signal is present, the mechanism intermittently disables the optical transmit channel of the bi-directional data cable. On the other hand, if the loss of signal is not present, the mechanism enables the optical transmit channel of the bi-directional data cable without intermittently disabling transmission at least for most of the time until the next time a loss of signal is detected on the optical receive channel.

  • Patent number: 8238827
Abstract: In a mobile telephone device applicable as an information processing apparatus, a protocol layer control unit controls a protocol layer used when a wireless communication is performed with a head set. A command queue puts an execution of a command to the protocol layer in a standby state. A request management unit manages piling up of requests accepted sequentially from the higher level layer in the command queue. A forced interruption unit requests the protocol layer control unit to disconnect a physical connection with the head set in a case where a forced interruption factor is generated. The protocol layer control unit is used to disconnect the physical connection with the head set. When a forced interruption request is accepted, a request management unit does not pile up the forced interruption request in the command queue but executes a forced interruption processing by the forced interruption unit.

  • Patent number: 8234787
Abstract: A first film adhesive between actuator units and a supply port plate, a second film adhesive between a reservoir plate and the supply port plate, and a third film adhesive between the reservoir plate and a nozzle plate are each provided with round holes having an equal size and formed in correspondence to the locations of nozzle communication ports. Thanks to the round holes having the equal size one another, irregularity in capacities of spaces formed by layers of the first film adhesive, the second adhesive, and the third film adhesive are reduced, thereby reducing a difference of passage resistance caused in the nozzle communication ports. Accordingly, it is possible to realize a printing head capable of reducing irregularity in an amount of ejected ink and a speed of ink drops between nozzles.

  • Patent number: 8237647
Abstract: A driving method for a liquid crystal display apparatus, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pixel electrode and a counter electrode, and that controls a transmitted light in the liquid crystal layer by dividing a single frame period into multiple subfield periods and applying an on/off binary data signal between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode in each subfield period. When a counter electrode potential applied to the counter electrode is used as a reference and a voltage higher than the reference is taken as a positive-polarity voltage and a voltage lower than the reference is taken as a negative-polarity voltage, the data signal is converted to the positive-polarity voltage and negative-polarity voltage alternately and cyclically every a cyclical period having subfield period or every several subfield periods. Further, the length of half the cyclical period is no less than 1.6 ms.
