Abstract: An encoding/decoding system in an optical disk storage device for performing compact disc/digital video disk (CD/DVD) encoding/decoding of data. The encoding/decoding system includes address mappers for C1, C2, CD P/Q, and DVD inner/outer codes respectively and a shareable Reel-Solomon (RS) encoder/decoder. The shareable RS encoder/decoder is capable of selectively being coupled to either one of the address mappers. When the encoding/decoding system is encoding, the shareable RS encoder/decoder employs a generation polynomial of RS code to generate a parity code of 2T symbols and output a codeword of N symbols, wherein the values of N and 2T are associated with the selected address mapper.

  • Patent number: 6819349
Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided a method for forming a mark having superior conspicuity, wherein plural plating layers each having a different hue are formed on a base, a portion of the upper plating layer is removed by laser marking so as to reveal the color of the lower plating layer, and thereby the color difference between a mark and the upper plating layer is made clear. Further, after the upper plating layer is removed by laser marking, another plating layer may be applied to a mark portion to make the mark conspicuous. Furthermore, a concave portion or concavo-convex portions may be provided on the surface of the plating layers, and the concave portion or concavo-convex portions may be colored with ink or paint. With these methods, it is possible to easily form a colored mark having superior conspicuity, corrosion resistance, adhesion, abrasion resistance and to produce a product bearing such a mark.

  • Patent number: 6809322
Abstract: The invention provides for a scanning electron or ion beam instrument capable of transferring the beam from a high vacuum chamber (8) into a high pressure chamber (5) via aperture (1) and aperture (2). The beam is deflected and scanned by coils (3) generally positioned between apertures (1) and (2). The amplitude of deflection of the beam over a specimen placed inside chamber (5) is substantially larger than the diameter of aperture (1). Leaking gas through aperture (1) is removed via port (7) by appropriate pumping apparatus. The size of aperture (1) is such that the pressure in chamber (6) combined with the supersonic jet and shock waves naturally forming therein do not result in catastrophic electron beam loss in chamber (6). The addition of appropriate detection means result in an instrument characterised by superior performance over prior art by way of better field of view at low magnification, better vacuum system and improved detection and imaging capabilities.

  • Patent number: 6801066
Abstract: An apparatus for generating quadrature phase signals in a half-rate data recovery circuit, which is adapted to generate a first and a second clock signals having the same frequency and being 90 degrees out of phase with each other. The apparatus for generating quadrature phase signals mainly comprises a base selector, a first phase interpolator and a second phase interpolator. The base selector generates, based on a region control signal, a pair of phase region boundaries for the first clock signal as well as a pair of phase region boundaries for the second clock signal by using a plurality of reference clock signals. The first and second phase interpolators perform, based on a position control signal, weighted average processes for the two pairs of phase region boundaries, respectively, to thereby obtain the first and the second clock signals.
