  • Patent number: 4257517
Abstract: A scraper bar for use with conveyor belting and the like to clean such belting of material adhering to its surface. The scraper bar consists of a layer of hard abrasion-resistant pellets embedded in an elastomer to form an elastomer/pellet matrix. An additional layer of elastomer is cast to the matrixed layer to provide a surface for attaching the scraper to its support when in service. Embedded in the layer of unmatrixed elastomer is an insert of particle board, chipboard, plywood or fibreglass reinforced plastic sheeting. The insert prevents bowing of the scraper bar due to differential shrinkage between the layer of matrixed elastomer and pellets and the supporting layer of elastomer.

  • Patent number: 4257160
Abstract: A two-bladed safety razor has a platform unitary with the handle of the razor. The platform movably supports a blade carrier plate which in turn fixedly carries a shaving blade unit including an upper blade, lower blade and a spacer member interposed between the upper and lower blades. A cap member overlying the upper blade is connected to the platform. Between the upper and lower blades, interposed is an ejecting member which is fixed to at least one of the cap member and the platform. Means are provided for causing a movement of the blade carrier plate and, hence, of the shaving blade unit to and from a fully retracted position relatively to the ejecting member. The ejecting member is so located that the cutting edge of the lower blade is positioned flush with or behind the front surface of the ejecting member when the blade assembly takes the fully retracted position.

  • Patent number: 4257251
Abstract: A sheet metal workpiece is deformed by embossing or shearing over a patterned die plate, by placing the workpiece on the die plate, a slab of rubber or other elastomer on the workpiece, and passing between spaced parallel driven rollers.A characteristic of the invention is the use of load rollers adjacent and on each side of the lower roller to support a carriage which itself supports the die plate so that the resilient forces imposed by the rubber do not curve the carriage and die plate.

  • Patent number: 4249288
Abstract: Apparatus for treating fabric by beating while the fabric is in the spread or flattened state, particularly for use in a process and system for washing the fabric. The apparatus has a large number of beating bars arranged in groups each of which being adapted to effect a beating, in cooperation with beating anvils, on the fabric which is carried and fed by an endless rubber base running on the beating anvils. The driving mechanisms for the feed of the fabric and for the beating are operatively connected such that the feed and the beatings are made alternately. For washing the cloth, the cloth is immersed in the solution of a detergent, and is then beaten by the first group of beating bars. Subsequently, the fabric is beaten by the second group of beating bars under application of washing with hot water or water. The apparatus of the invention can treat thin fabrics such as gauze, and can ensure a high soft feel or touch of the finished fabric, due to the application of the beating.

  • Patent number: 4233852
Abstract: A pulley configuration which increases the contact area between the pulley tooth tips and the land area of the belt teeth. The increased contact area reduces land area wear between belt teeth. The pulley tooth tip has a longitudinal cross-sectional contour partially composed of two substantially circular arcs connected by a line segment which is substantially straight or slightly curved. The length of the line segment is from 2 percent to 100 percent of the width of the belt tooth on which the pulley is used, and preferably less than about 7 percent of the width of the belt tooth. The pulley groove depth may be less than the height of the belt tooth and the groove has a longitudinal cross-sectional contour partially composed of two substantially circular arcs connected by a line segment which is substantially straight or slightly curved. The pulley in combination with a toothed belt forms a positive power transmission system.

  • Patent number: 4232445
Abstract: A knife apparatus having a knife handle of a substantially C-shaped cross-section defining a groove extending in a longitudinal direction of the handle, a slider slidably received by the groove of the handle and an elongated cutting blade secured to the slider so as to be extended and retracted as the slider is slided along the length of the groove. The knife handle is provided with a series of notches formed in one of the side walls thereof. The slider has a depressable resilient tab extending therefrom in the opposite direction to the cutting blade. The depressable resilient tab is provided with a pawl adapted to be received by selected one of the notches, when the depressable resilient tab is not depressed, so as to fix the slider against the sliding movement. As the depressable resilient tab is depressed, the pawl is disengaged from the notch to allow the slider to be freely slided. The body of the slider and the depressable resilient tab are unitarily formed of a plastic.
