  • Patent number: 4227999
Abstract: In the ultrafiltration of liquids such as vinegar, wine, etc., the liquid to be filtered is fed from and back to a circulating tank through at least one filtration circuit including at least two serially connected, vertically spaced, non-horizontal filter modules through each of which the liquid flows from top to bottom. Each filter module consists of a pipe enclosing a bundle of capillary tubes of semi-permeable membrane material and having a lateral outlet for filtered liquid. Each two successive filter modules are separated from one another by a fall interval zone through which unfiltered liquid can flow with a negligibly low pressure drop from the outlet of the upper filter module to the inlet of the lower one, and each fall interval zone is so arranged that the pressure drop occurring in the upper one of each two successive filter modules is equalized, to the extent of about 0.5 to 1.

  • Patent number: 4222732
Abstract: An apertured insulation unit is disclosed for interposition between a mold having at least one cavity in which elastomeric stock can be cured in the form of said cavity and an injection unit from which elastomeric stock can be expelled and transferred through the insulation unit to the mold cavity, the mold and injection unit being movable axially relative to one another into and out of pressing association with respective opposite side-faces of the insulation unit. The insulation unit serves to prevent curing of elastomeric stock remaining in the injection unit with the curing of the portion of such stock transferred to the cavity, without separation of either the mold or the injection unit from the insulation unit. The insulation unit is at least in part in the form of a thin, flexible, apertured plate constituted of a thermal-insulatory material which is engageable and forms a parting line with the mold.

  • Patent number: 4214191
Abstract: A system for the automatic management (detection and control) of tool life in a numerically controlled machine tool having means for automatically measuring the dimension of workpieces and correcting the tool offset of a cutting tool depending on wear on the cutting tool. In the system, the mechanical deformation error component (radial deviation component of a spindle of the machine tool) due to heat is removed from the amount of tool offset value (tool feed position compensation) so as to accumulate solely the net tool wear component, and the cutting tool is exchanged when the accumulated value attains a predetermined setting.

  • Patent number: 4202294
Abstract: An automatic water supply system used for raising domestic animals such as cattle, horses, poultry and so on and especially for pigs. Instead of a water flow control device such as a valve, float or the like provided in a self supply water trough, a flow control container is used which is communicated through a water supply pipe to a common water storage tank, placed at an elevated position inaccessible to a pig or the other animals and includes a float, a valve and a siphon which may ensure the automatic and positive supply of water into the trough as the water level in the trough is lowered by an animal drinking therefrom. Therefore the unnecessary supply of water caused by the undesired engagement of the mouth of an animal with the water flow control device in the trough mischieviously, and/or the stopping up of the drain with remaining food particles may be completely eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4203065
Abstract: Electrolyte from a battery cell is circulated by pump, through a container which contains a hydrometer float, and back to the cell. The float has an opaque neck which interrupts light passing from a light source assembly to a light receiving assembly, and the receiving assembly controls slave means, which can be an illuminated sign, as for example a group of visible light emitting diodes, the number of which illuminated indicating the density of the electrolyte. The slave means can alternatively be a volt meter, or a battery charger, the rate of charge of which is controlled by a voltage signal.

  • Patent number: 4201260
Abstract: A method of making a belted, radial ply tire in a single stage is disclosed wherein a body layer is formed from one or more body plies of cord fabric which are wound around a tire building drum in such a manner that the cords extend parallel to the axis of the building drum. At least a pair of breaker plies of cord fabric are wrapped around the body plies to create a breaker layer with the cords in each breaker ply being oppositely disposed in adjacent plies, extending parallel to one another within each breaker ply and forming a bias angle of from about 50.degree. to about 70.degree. with a circumferential line corresponding to the crown centerline of the completed tire. A strip of high soft stretch reinforcing tape is wrapped helically over the breaker layer at an angle of substantially 90.degree. to a plane including the axis of the body layer to form a 0.degree. cap band preparatory to securing a tread slab over the breaker layer, completing the raw carcass.
