  • Patent number: 5707205
Abstract: An air moving device for improving P-Q characteristics and noise by suppressing the production of vortices. An annular wall spaced from blade tips, is formed of a plurality of annular plates and spacers with a slit defined between adjacent annular plates. The width of each slit is set to satisfy the formula W.ltoreq.(.nu..multidot.R.sub.ec /v) where .nu. is the kinematic viscosity of air, v is the peripheral speed of the blade tips, W is the width of the slits and R.sub.ec is the critical Reynold's number. Thus, as a fan is rotated, air is drawn in a laminar flow through the slits to the inner periphery of the annular wall. Thereby, it is possible to suppress the separation of air flow on the suction side of blade surfaces and the production of vortices, thus improving the air moving state.

  • Patent number: 5708750
Abstract: Method of locally embedding a waveguide in a substrate. A mask is arranged on the upper face of the substrate. An edge of the mask obliquely intersects, at a low predetermined angle A, the waveguide to define a partially masked transition portion between non-masked portion and a fully masked portion of the waveguide. After a stage in which the waveguide is embedded in the substrate, the mask is withdrawn. The portion of the waveguide is thereby embedded at a depth greater than portion, portion forming a gradual adiabatic transition between both portions. The method is useful in the manufacture of sensors.

  • Patent number: 5707925
Abstract: The present invention relates to image-formation on any selected kind of objective body. The characterizing features reside in such that, based upon fed image data, required images are formed on an image-transferable sheet acting for image carry-over service and in reliance on sublimation image transfer technique, and then, by the use of said sheet with said images thus formed thereon, the formed images thereon are transferringly applied on the objective body. By adopting the above measures, the objective body can be formed sharply and clearly with any desired images, irrespective of kind and configuration thereof, with such superior results of highly improved unity and solidability between the formed images and the objective body to be decorated with.

  • Patent number: 5705289
Abstract: A process for peeling an outer tube of a spent NaS cell, including the steps of: (1) holding opposite end portions of the spent NaS cell; (2) forming annular cut lines in the outer tube of the cell at the opposite end portions; (3) forming a straight cut line in the outer tube to be continued to the annular cut lines; (4) inserting a pawl into the straight cut line; and (5) peeling the outer tube of the spent NaS cell by turning at least one of the spent NaS cell and the pawl relative to each other. Instead of the pawl, a chisel may be inserted into the straight cut line, and the outer tube of the spent NaS cell is peeled by applying an impact force upon the outer tube of the cell through the chisel. • Patent number: 5705129
Abstract: An NOx sensor has the sensor element made of an oxide, the resistance of which is varied in response to an NOx component in a gas to be measured, and a measuring portion for measuring a resistance variation of the sensor element and for detecting an NOx concentration in the gas to be measured. A catalyst is arranged at an upstream side of a flow of the gas to be measured with respect reach to the sensor element, which makes a partial pressure ratio of NO/NO.sub.2 reach to an equilibrium state and removes a CO component from the gas to be measured. A heater for adjusting a temperature is arranged at a position close to the sensor element, which maintains temperatures of the sensor element and the catalyst constant. An O.sub.2 sensor is arranged at a position close to the sensor element so that the measuring portion can detect accurately the concentration of Nox in the measurement gas by reference to the resistance of the sensor element.

  • Patent number: 5703433
Abstract: Predetermined barrier ribs 2 are filled with three types of pastes of fluorescent substances 3 for R, G, and B by a screen printing method. Next, a sandblasting process is performed through a sandblasting mask 7. Thereafter, a sintering process is performed. Thus, fluorescent screens are formed on a glass substrate 1 and the wall surfaces of barrier ribs 2. As the sandblasting mask 7, a photoresist 4 is used. By a photolithographic method, a desired pattern of the sandblasting mask 7 can be used. In this manner, fluorescent screens can be formed on the wall surfaces of the barrier ribs as well as the glass substrate 1. The fluorescent screens formed on the wall surfaces of the barrier ribs are in such a parabolic shape that a discharging space defined by the fluorescent screen is widened toward a front plate 11.
