Abstract: Recovery of precious metals such as gold and silver from aqueous cyanide solutions thereof, by contact with a reagent containing a guanidine functionality. The guanidine reagent extracts the precious metal from the aqueous solution which is subsequently stripped from the guanidine reagent and recovered by conventional methods. Certain novel guanidine compounds suitable for extracting gold and silver are disclosed.

Abstract: Disclosed is a process for recovery of amino acids from aqueous mixtures. In particular, it relates to a treatment of said amino acid containing aqueous mixture prior to extraction of the amino acid with a water immiscible organic solution containing a water insoluble extractant for said amino acid. The overall process of the invention which includes the pretreatment and extraction, also includes optional methods of recovering said extracted amino acid from the water immiscible organic solution. Accordingly, the invention also relates to a process for recovery of the amino acid by stripping of the amino acid from the organic solution and precipitation of the amino acid.

Abstract: The present invention deals with the stabilization of aspartame, by the formation of an inclusion complex of aspartame and cyclodextrin. The inclusion complex is formed by combining the aspartame with the cyclodextrin in a medium suitable for formation of the inclusion complex before a substantial degree of hydrolysis of the aspartame can occur. Upon drying a dry inclusion complex is formed.

Abstract: A certain class of poly(ester-amide) polymers are disclosed which are particularly suitable as hot melt adhesive compositions particularly advantageous for bonding plastics, such as polyester or polycarbonate polymers. The particular class of poly(ester-amides) are those which include a polymeric fat acid, and more specifically a dimeric fat acid component, in which the ester segments will contribute from about 20, preferably 35 to about 60 weight percent of the poly(ester-amide) and the amide segment contributing the remainder.
Abstract: A dry, particulate, free-flowing form of Vitamin E (.alpha.-tocopherol) is provided which includes a potency stabilizer for the Vitamin E. The potency stabilizers are hydroxy acids or amino acids such as ascorbic acid, citric acid, methionine and cysteine.
Abstract: Substituted 8-hydroxyquinoline metal extractants having a cyclic hydrocarbon substituent at either the 5 and 7 or only the 7 position are described.
Abstract: Novel aminopolyols are the products of the reaction of an N-substituted ethanolamine with a terminal epoxy-containing compound. The epoxy-containing compounds may be:I. terminal mono-epoxy-containing aliphatic hydrocarbons,II. mono-glycidyl ethers of aliphatic hydrocarbons,III. mono-glycidyl esters of fatty acids, andIV. di-glycidyl ethers of bisphenols. The novel aminopolyols are useful in the preparation of novel polyurethanes by reaction with polyisocyanates.
Abstract: A thickened alcoholic antibacterial composition is provided which contains as a thickener a polymer having as the recurring structural unit an acrylamidoalkanesulfonic acid monomer or ammonium salt thereof. Methods of thickening an alcoholic antibacterial composition and methods of controlling bacteria with such compositions are also provided.

Abstract: Polyamide resins useful as binders in flexographic/gravure inks are provided which are essentially free of polyeric fat acids. These polyamide resins exhibit improved water solubility, yet still retain the other many desirable properties of polyamide resins based on polymeric fat acids. The resins are acid terminated having acid values greater than 30 and are prepared from medium chain (12-26 carbons) dicarboxylic acids such as the C.sub.21 acid, 2-n-hexyl-5-(7-carboxyl-n-heptyl)-cyclohex-3-ene carboxylic acid, and aliphatic diamines having from 2-12 carbon atoms.
Abstract: Tocopherol diester derivatives having high vitamin E potency can be produced by the esterification of tocopherol acid esters with amino alcohols. Some preferred tocopherol diesters also have excellent water solubility. One of the preferred diesters is the tocopherol diester having choline, a vitamin B.sub.4 moiety.
Abstract: An improved adhesive composition comprised of a thermoplastic adhesive resin particularly a polymeric fat acid polyamide having small amounts of a bisphenol added as an adhesion promoter. The combination provides improved adhesion to various plastic substrates and a lower viscosity which facilitates application of the resin to substrates.

Abstract: Polyamide adhesives for bonding fabrics which allow for a lower bonding temperature than had been possible with similar previously available polyamide fabric bonding resins. The polyamide adhesives of the present invention are particularly suitable for use as fusible interliners for fabrics which demonstrate excellent retention of adhesive properties even after repeated cleaning by laundering and/or dry cleaning. The polyamide adhesive is an amidification product of(a) caprolactam,(b) a diamine component which is 50-75 eq. % hexamethylene diamine, and 25-50 eq. % piperazine, or 2-methyl pentamethylene diamine, and(c) a mixture of a polymeric fat acid and an aliphatic straight chain co-dicarboxylic acid having 6-12 carbon atoms.
