  • Patent number: 6715262
Abstract: A method is disclosed for forming reclosable packages at a form, fill and seal (FFS) apparatus by advancing a film of package making material longitudinally to form a tube while guiding opposite longitudinal edges of the film into a fin. A zipper having interlocking members and an attached flange is fed into the fin by capturing external surfaces of the interlocking members within a first guide member positioned adjacent to said fin and feeding the flanges along opposite sides of a second guide member positioned within said fin. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6712510
Abstract: A reclosable package having a front wall (10), a rear wall (14), bottom (18), top (16), and first and second sides (20, 22). A zipper (24) extends across the package top between the sides with a slider (30) disposed along the zipper between a zipper fully open position when the slider is at the first side (20) and a fully closed position when the slider is at the second side (22). A side seal (36) on the first side (20) joins the front wall (10) to the rear wall (14) and extends between the bottom (18) and the zipper (24). The side seal (36) further extends toward the second side (22) for a distance at least as long as the length of the slider (30). When the slider (30) is in the zipper fully open position it parks above the side seal (36) and out of the mouth of the package (10) leading to a product cavity (38).

  • Patent number: 6697513
Abstract: An optical member inspection apparatus includes an inspection optical system having a light source, and a diffusing means for diffusing the light emitted from the light source. The diffusing means has a central portion and a peripheral portion. The diffusion transmittance of the peripheral portion is higher than the diffusion transmittance of the central portion. The inspection optical system is also provided with an image pick-up means to pick-up an image of the optical member to be inspected, and is positioned so as to receive that light emitted from the light source and transmitted through the diffusing means and the optical member. A judging means is also provided, for judging whether or not the optical member has a defect, in accordance with image signals output from the image pick-up means.

  • Patent number: 6694704
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a film for forming reclosable bags includes moving the film and attaching to the film sequentially and crosswise with reference to the direction of movement of the film, a fastener including a first strip supporting at least one reclosable profile engaged with another reclosable profile that is complementary thereto and that is supported by a second strip or a part of the first strip, which will subsequently be attached to the film. Each strip includes at least one web extending substantially mostly sideways on one side of the profiles. The above arrangements make possible special fasteners that include sliders, gasket membranes, fasteners inverted within the bag, peel-seals and hinged fasteners.

  • Patent number: 6695439
Abstract: A piezoelectric transducer 10 includes a piezoelectric plate 11, in which a plurality of piezoelectric ceramic layers 11a-11d are stacked one on another. The piezoelectric plate 11 is polarized in directions symmetrically with the center of each ink chamber 24 and slanted with respect to both of the surface direction and the thickness direction of the piezoelectric plate 11. A pair of driving electrodes 12 and 13 are provided on the opposite surfaces of the piezoelectric plate 11. When an electric field, which extends substantially perpendicularly with the polarized directions, is applied by the driving electrodes 12, 13 through the piezoelectric plate 11, the piezoelectric plate 11 is deformed in a shear mode fashion, thereby applying an ejection pressure to ink accommodated inside the ink chamber 24.

  • Patent number: 6691383
Abstract: A zipper (10) having interlocking profiles (16, 20) wherein the male profile (16) has at least two male ribs (26, 30) bordering a male rib (28). The male profile (16) is engagable with a female profile (20), wherein the female profile (20) includes grooves (38, 48). The grooves (38, 48), attached to each other by a bridge (54), engage the male ribs (26, 32). With the profiles (16, 20) engaged, the male rib (28) pushes against the bridge (54) and thereby pushes the bridge against the packaging film during attachment such that the profiles (16, 20) are stabilized during sealing to the packaging film. As part of a pre-made zipper (10), the male rib (28) can be attached to the bridge (54) to form a barrier seal within the zipper (10).

  • Patent number: 6689453
Abstract: A method of producing a nanocomposite coating without gaseous precursor reactants. A non-nanocrystalline particulate containing a polymorphic material in an atmospheric phase is introduced into a high-velocity gas jet. The projected particulate is allowed to impact a substrate at a velocity effective to cause at a least a portion of the polymorphic material to transform to a nanocrystalline, high pressure phase.

  • Patent number: 6682071
Abstract: The invention relates to a toy ball game comprising a horizontally extending playface and having a play mechanism in the form of a toy figure arranged in such position on the playface that it protrudes thereabove and is arranged for being flexed away from a neutral position and by spring force revert to that neutral position whereby a face on the mechanism is able to transmit energy to a ball in order to cause the ball to move away from the mechanism and across the playface. The play mechanism is able to rotate about a vertical axis to enable the toy figure to face in the direction of his kick. From the mechanism an arm protrudes transversally and it is arranged to perform, in response to an influence exerted vertically by a finger, a flexing of the mechanism away from its neutral position.
