  • Patent number: 6498443
Abstract: A color TV tube apparatus having a horizontal deflection coil for generating a pincushion-shaped horizontal deflection field, which uses a self-convergence method. In such a color TV tube, the horizontal deflection coil is adjusted so that the vertical focus points of the electron beams lie 50 mm or less on the inside and 30 mm or less on the outside of each edge of the effective display screen area along the horizontal axis. The horizontal deflection coil is adjusted with the focusing of an electron beam by a lensing action of an electron gun non-operational.

  • Patent number: 6496471
Abstract: A disk playback apparatus such as a CD player comprises a case and a lift unit which is supported to be movable in the vertical direction to the case. The lift unit comprises a playback unit, a turntable, a holder drawing member, and the like. A magazine which is adapted to be loaded in the case accommodates therein disk holders, each of which hold one of different-sized disks. A control link having a holder butting pin and a disk control pin is movably mounted on the playback unit which is urged in the direction of departing from the disk by means of a release spring. When the disk holder reaches its accommodation position, the disk holder butts against the holder butting pin and rotates the control link slightly, thereby the disk control pin compulsively corrects the position of the disk. Thus the disk is certainly transported to the normal chucking position on the playback unit irrespective of the disk accommodated state in the disk holder.

  • Patent number: 6496930
Abstract: A message receiving apparatus for receiving messages from a message transmitting apparatus generates first data for producing a display which urges a user of the message transmitting apparatus to input a message, and generates second data within the first data for specifying a conversion type for secret communication of the message. The message receiving apparatus sends the first data including the second data to the message transmitting apparatus and subsequently receives the message from the message transmitting apparatus. The message transmitting apparatus for transmitting messages to the message receiving apparatus receives the first data for producing the display and the accompanying second data for specifying the conversion type and produces the display according to the first data.

  • Patent number: 6492772
Abstract: A high pressure discharge lamp has a pair of electrodes in a discharge tube. Each electrode includes a coil and an electrode rod with a tip, the coil being set around the electrode rod near the tip. The tip of the electrode rod and an adjacent portion of the coil are fused together during the initial discharge. To be more specific, the coil covers the electrode rod near the tip, with the tip of the electrode rod being left uncovered and a length of the tip being &Dgr;L that satisfies an inequality 1/50*R3≦&Dgr;L≦1/5*R3 where R3 is an outer diameter of the coil adjacent to the tip. Alternatively, the electrode can be first formed before being set in the discharge tube, by integrally melting the tip of the electrode rod and the adjacent portion of the coil using, for example, a plasma or laser.

  • Patent number: 6490673
Abstract: Each of registers R0 to R31 is divided into the upper 32-bit area and the lower 32-bit area. A register writing control unit 431 outputs information to the selectors 4321 and 4322 on the registers and the locations (upper and lower areas) in which data is written by the instructions that have issued in one cycle. Each of the selectors 4321 and 4322 selects one out of pieces of data that have been output from first, second, and third arithmetic operation units 44, 45, and 46 and writes the selected data in the upper or lower area in one register. A dependency analysis unit 110 in a compiling apparatus considers the upper and lower registers in one 64-bit register as separate resources, analyzes the data dependency relations between the instructions, and generates a dependency graph that indicates the data dependency relations. A instruction rearrangement unit 111 rearranges the instructions and generates execution codes using the dependency graph.

  • Patent number: 6482199
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for fast precise material processing and modification which minimizes collateral damage. Utilizing optimized, pulsed electromagnetic energy parameters leads to an interaction regime which minimizes residual energy deposition. Advantageously, removal of cumulative pulse train residual energy is further maximized through the rapid progression of the ablation front which move faster than the thermal energy diffusion front, thus ensuring substantial removal of residual energy to further minimize collateral thermal damage.

  • Patent number: 6477335
Abstract: An apparatus for communicating to a printer a type of installed printer cartridge, where the combination of the cartridge and the printer form a magnetic coupling that can generate a cartridge specific code to identify the toner cartridge as being of a predetermined type. In a preferred embodiment, the magnetic coupling is achieved using at least two reed switches preferably mounted on the printer, with the reed switches biased using fixed magnetic elements placed immediately adjacent the reed switches. In the absence of any further magnetic fields, the reed switches are selected to provide a known set of switch positions corresponding to a bit value of one (“1”) for an open circuit and a bit value of zero (“0”) for a closed circuit.

  • Patent number: 6476879
Abstract: A liquid crystal flat panel monitor is mounted in a frame that is positioned in an overhead compartment of an aircraft. A D.C. motor is mounted for pivoting the monitor. A voltage source having positive and negative polarity controls the D.C. monitor causing it to pivot the monitor to a viewing position or to a stowed position. The D.C. motor carries a flywheel on its shaft that stores energy as the motor rotates. During power loss, a controller sends a voltage pulse to the D.C. motor to spin it at high speed and store enough energy in the spring flywheel to pivot the monitor to a stowed position. A deployed position switch senses when the LCD monitor is fully rotated to its open view position. An electromagnetic latch keeps the LCD monitor locked in its stowed position until it is to be displayed for viewing.

  • Patent number: 6477606
Abstract: A master device in a system including a bidirectional bus and at least one device manages whether the system is in an access state in which the master device permits an access to or from one device or a non-access state in which the master device permits an access to none of the devices. The master device drives the bidirectional bus using a predetermined current to transfer data to or from one device connected to the bidirectional bus when the system is in the access state. When the state of the system changes from the access state to the non-access state, the master device drives the bidirectional bus in order to stabilize the potential of the bidirectional bus to keep the bus potential from changing when the system is in a non-access state, thereby eliminating the need for conventional pull-up/pull-down resistors for stabilizing the bus potential during a non-access state.

  • Patent number: 6476561
Abstract: To provide a gas discharge display device that can perform stable write operations for a gas discharge panel and thereby display images with superior quality. A base pulse is applied throughout a write period. The base pulse gradually varies with an approximately constant slope (an average slope of 10V/&mgr;sec or less), during an introduction part Ia (i.e. from when the leading edge of the base pulse starts until immediately before the base pulse reaches a constant base voltage Vb) of the write period. A scan pulse Psco is not applied in the introduction part Ia, but is applied after the base pulse reaches the base voltage Vb.
