  • Patent number: 5521793
Abstract: An outdoor wireless base station with a circuit pack within a housing. A printed circuit board of the pack has opposite edges formed with spaced projections and the housing has spaced guide elements to receive the projections for mounting purposes. To mount the circuit pack, the circuit board is moved to pass the projections laterally between the guide elements to enable the projections to become aligned with and then to move along the guide elements.

  • Patent number: 5510576
Abstract: Transmission cable enclosure with a resiliently flexible cable sealing member within an inlet passage of a housing of the enclosure. The sealing member surrounds the cable when installed and a device is provided to apply a constant compressive force axially upon the sealing member. This constant force resiliently deforms the sealing member inwards to continuously seal against the cable irrespective of ambient temperature and pressure conditions. Also provided is a device for gripping the cable close to the sealing member to prevent axial movement of the cable at this location. The arrangement is suitable for passage of a single length or two closely positioned lengths of cable passing through the inlet passage.

  • Patent number: 5430933
Abstract: A multiple layer printed circuit board and a method of manufacturing multiple layer printed circuit boards which incorporate integral edge shielding in combination with top and bottom shielding to effectively provide a sandwich arrangement within a Faraday Cage. Electromagnetic emissions radiating from an outside surface of either the top or bottom shielding layer are substantially reduced. In one structure, a multiple layer printed circuit board having a sandwich arrangement which includes at least one inner conductive layer for providing a ground plane disposed between the outer shielding layers, the inner conductive layer being electrically connected directly to the edge shielding means and hence to the outer conductive layers. The larger and more continuous surface area provided by the direct connection to the edge shielding effectively provides an electrical connection having a low inductance and hence in operation results in all ground planes having a more constant non-varying potential.

  • Patent number: 5421740
Abstract: Electronic circuit pack and mounting frame combination in which a mating connector joined to conductors coming in for connection to the circuit pack, is held within a connector holder for protection and connection purposes. Straight line action of the connector holder is ensured to ensure proper alignment of the mating connector with the circuit pack connector. It is preferable for the connector holder to be permanently attached to the frame to support the weight of the holder and minimize strain upon the incoming conductors.

  • Patent number: 5402320
Abstract: Within an electronic shelf, physically separating or isolating in a front to rear direction keying elements from connector alignment elements to provide a separation distance, minimizes the undesirable interaction that may occur between keying elements and connector alignment elements due to tolerance effects. Worst case manufacturing tolerances with respect to keying elements, for example, no longer influence in any significant way, the co-action of the connector alignment elements. Insertion of circuit packs into respective receiving stations is achieved with less effort since effort is not required to overcome extra frictional forces resulting from the keying elements interacting with the connector alignment elements.

  • Patent number: 5394496
Abstract: A mechanical splice according to the invention does not use any adhesive for holding the aligned fibers in position. A biasing means is employed for operating upon the gripping and alignment means to align and grip the fibers, by way of a sleeve member. The biasing means is held in a preloaded state by a closure prevention means such that the biasing means cannot act to move the gripping and alignment means into the gripping state. Thus, the mechanical splice is in a preloaded and cocked condition before insertion of the optical fibers to be aligned and mechanically spliced together. Operation of the splice is quick and simple and is performed merely by movement of the closure prevention means out of the cocked position.

  • Patent number: 5385488
Abstract: A patch panel is disclosed which is easily expandable as required by a customer and which substantially simplifies conventional field servicing practices. The invention provides a patch panel comprising an assembly of at least one connector and printed circuit board with the connector being mounted upon the printed circuit board; a mount for removably supporting the assembly of at least one connector and printed circuit board in a desired location relative to the mount and a panel for detachably holding the mount in a predetermined position to the panel such that the panel prevents removal of the assembly of at least one connector and printed circuit board from the mount.

  • Patent number: 5358414
Abstract: A multi-terminal electrical connector having two rows of terminals on one side of a dielectric housing and two rows of terminals on the other side. On one side pairs of terminals are laterally spaced from row to row. Conductors extend through the connector to connect terminals of each pair on one side to terminals of an associated pair on the other side. In one structure, the conductors to alternating conductor pairs on each side are spaced apart laterally of the rows while for the other pairs, the conductors cross over each other. In another structure, the conductors of each of the pairs are spaced laterally and a spacer is provided to cause alternate pairs of untwisted wires to be spaced laterally and the wires of the other pairs to cross over each other. In both structures, the arrangement reduces crosstalk.

  • Patent number: 5350324
Abstract: A wall socket or patch panel (distribution frame) has pairs of incoming conductor wires connected into terminal pairs in one connector. Wires passing between that connector and another connector are then twisted together with wires associated with other pairs. This provides a compensating reactive coupling to a parasitic reactive coupling existing between conductors within the connectors.

  • Patent number: 5337400
Abstract: A combination of distribution frame and optical connector holders receivable in the frame provided with an electrical circuit which permits both ends of a chosen optical fiber patch cord to be located quickly. The patch cords have electrical conductors in addition to optical fibers. After one end of the chosen patch cord is located in one holder, an electrical current is passed along one circuit including the patch cord to result in an indicator lamp being lit on the other holder holding the other end of the chosen patch cord. Using a different circuit, the other end of the chosen patch cord is distinguished from all patch cord ends in the other holder.
