  • Patent number: 5073682
Abstract: A cable for use as aerial service wire having a core of conductors and a load carrier in the form of a plurality of spaced apart tensile reinforcing members spaced from the core as a group laterally on one side of the core. Part of the jacket surrounds the core and is interconnected to another jacket part surrounding the group of filaments. The jacket part surrounding the filament group has a width greater than its thickness so that it may fit within a wedge clamp for stringing purposes. The two parts of the jacket are capable of being separated between the filament group and the core to allow a wedge clamp to be fitted. For this purpose, the cable may be fitted with a non-adherent tape inside the jacket and between the jacket parts with the jacket parts interconnecting around edges of the tape.

  • Patent number: 5052773
Abstract: In an optical fiber organizer, a wall of the organizer, which may be a removable shelf, has apertures for receiving tubes having optical fibers, the aperture having a lateral entry slot. The tubes are moved laterally along the slot, in succession so that the tubes progressively gather together in the aperture. The tubes are then brought together as a bundle by use of a tie wrap which is secured solely around the bundle. In the finished structure, the size of the bundle is too large to allow for its removal from the aperture along the slot.

  • Patent number: 5014959
Abstract: A closure, particularly, a telephone closure base with two closure members and a movable shear locking member. In a closed condition of the closure, aligned apertures of the two closure members may receive the locking member to hold the assembly closed. A part of one of the closure members having the aperture is flexible and tensile and has a flexure position such that, when an opening force is applied to the assembly with the locking member extending through the apertures, the flexible part is flexed under tension and is urged against an opposing surface of the other closure member formed with the corresponding aperture. This flexing action places the locking member mainly in shear while minimizing any bending forces upon the locking member.

  • Patent number: 4980001
Abstract: In a method of applying a jacket to a metal shield of a cable, the jacket comprises a polyolefin having a modifier provided by a carboxylic acid or its anhydride. As the jacket extrudate passes onto the shield, air pressure is lowered at the surface of the shield to provide intimate overall contact between jacket and shield. Heating, additional to that provided by the extrudate, is employed to raise the outside bonding temperature of the shield up to at least the bonding temperature of the modifier so as to provide a bond between the jacket and the shield.
