  • Patent number: 3954861
Abstract: In a process for the production of urea from ammonia and carbon dioxide by feeding ammonia and carbon dioxide into a reactor, reacting the ammonia and carbon dioxide so as to produce an effluent aqueous solution of urea contaminated with ammonium carbamate, stripping the ammonium carbamate from the said solution in the presence of a stripping agent selected from ammonia and carbondioxide so as to produce an aqueous solution of urea substantially free from ammonium carbamate and a vapor phase of ammonia and carbon dioxide, and condensing ammonia and carbon dioxide to form a solution of carbamate for recycle into the reactor, and feeding ammonium carbamate to the reactor by entraining it in a stream of ammonia fed to the reactor through an ejector.

  • Patent number: 3951177
Abstract: Means are provided for entraining the free ends of weft threads extending from a formed fabric in movable suction hoses at each side of the loom. The hoses manipulate the weft thread ends into a position adjacent the sheds where hooked needles engage and fold the ends into the shed prior to beating. The weft threads on the side of the fabric which are attached to bobbins are folded into the sheds according to the pick repeat of the loom and the threads on the opposite side are folded into the next shed.

  • Patent number: 3950981
Abstract: A system for automatically suppressing any ground noise present in the detection of periodic phenomena comprising detecting means for detecting the signal occurring just prior to the occurrence of the periodic phenomena, which signal is representative of ground noise, converting means for converting the sensed signal to a usable D.C. level signal, sampling means for sampling the signal resulting from the occurrence of the periodic phenomena, and summation means for algebraically adding the converted D.C. signal to the sampled signal for eliminating any ground noise present in the sampled signal, thereby providing an output signal representative of the periodic output phenomena free of any ground noise.

  • Patent number: 3950449
Abstract: A liquid polymer having a very high viscosity of between 250 cSt and 15,000 cSt at 210.degree.F, is prepared by polymerizing one, or a mixture of more than one, n-alpha olefine represented by the formula R - CH = CH.sub.2, in which R is an alkyl radical containing from 6 to 8 carbon atoms, in the presence of a catalyst system formed at a temperature in the range of 0.degree.-150.degree.C by a catalyst consisting of TiCl.sub.4 and a polyiminoalane having the formula: ##EQU1## IN WHICH N IS A WHOLE NUMBER NOT GREATER THAN 50 AND R is an isopropyl radical, and in an atmosphere consisting essentially of an inert gas. The liquid polymer of very high viscosity so formed is useful as a lubricant.

  • Patent number: 3948085
Abstract: A pipeline closing head, for use in testing a pipeline after it has been laid on a submerged bed by subjecting the pipeline temporarily to internal pressure through the use of filling and emptying balls, is constituted by a hollow cylindrical body having a crowned closing element at one end and containing, at its other end, an air tight chamber housing the filling and emptying balls. Ducts and control valves through which fluid is supplied to said chamber to activate the filling and emptying balls and supply fluid pressure to the interior of the pipeline are housed within the cylindrical body so that they do not overhang the closing head, which may slide along a conventional ramp for the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 3943724
Abstract: A submersible oil-storage tank is constructed from a foundation plate which has a flat lower face and a concave upper face and contains a series of hollow cells, a cupola mounted on the foundation plate to form a spheroidal chamber, and extensible-retractable tie members connecting the cupola with the foundation plate. An expansible separating wall extends across the chamber and divides it into a lower sub-chamber and an upper sub-chamber. Each sub-chamber is provided with a valved duct so that water may be permitted to flow into or out of the lower sub-chamber and oil may be permitted to flow into or out of the upper sub-chamber.

  • Patent number: 3942359
Abstract: A system is disclosed through which knocking in an internal combustion engine is quantitatively measured by detecting engine vibrations with an accelerometer, transmitting the accelerometer signal to an elaboration network including an amplifier and a filter, transmitting an ignition pulse to a control network, transmitting the output from the elaboration network through a gate only during coincidence of a signal from the control network, the output of the control network corresponding to the angle of revolution of the crankshaft during which knocking usually occurs, and detecting the output signal from the gate.
