  • Patent number: 7885476
Abstract: A system and method for effectively performing an adaptive encoding procedure includes a texture analyzer that initially determines texture characteristics for blocks of input image data. An image transformer converts the blocks of image data into sets of coefficients that represent the various blocks. A block categorizer utilizes the texture characteristics to associate texture categories with the sets of coefficients from the various blocks. Deadzone tables are provided for storing deadzone values that define deadzone regions for performing appropriate quantization procedures. A quantizer may then access the deadzone values from the deadzone tables to adaptively convert the coefficients into quantized coefficients according to their corresponding texture characteristics.

  • Patent number: 7817764
Abstract: A system and method for effectively supporting a data transmission procedure includes a phase interpolator with a modular array of unit phase interpolators that each receives a respective input clock signal that is phase-shifted with respect to other input clock signals received by the remaining unit phase interpolators. The unit phase interpolators responsively generate corresponding UPI output signals that are summed together to produce a receiver clock signal. The phase interpolator receives a phase control word that includes a UPI selection segment and a UPI output-control segment. The phase interpolator utilizes the UPI selection segment to selectively activate pairs of the unit phase interpolators. The phase interpolator also utilizes the UPI output-control segment for controlling the UPI output signals to thereby adjust phase characteristics of the receiver clock signal.

  • Patent number: 7734107
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for performing wavelet-based local texture feature extraction and classification procedures. Image data is initially provided to include a query image and a series of test images. A feature detector calculates image parameters corresponding to the image data. The image parameters include mean absolute values, variance values, and texture angles. The feature detector utilizes the image parameters to calculate distance values that represent texture similarity characteristics between the query image and each of the test images. The feature detector then evaluates the distance values to determine one or more matching images from among the test images.

  • Patent number: 7683685
Abstract: An apparatus for implementing a digital phase-locked loop includes a voltage-controlled oscillator that generates a primary clock signal in response to a VCO control voltage. Detection means generates counter control signals, including count up signals and count down signals, to indicate a current relationship between the primary clock signal and a reference signal. An up/down counter then either increments or decrements a counter value in response to corresponding counter control signals. The counter value is then converted by a digital-to-analog converter into the VCO control voltage for adjusting the frequency of the primary clock signal generated by the voltage-controlled oscillator. In alternate embodiments, the foregoing up/down counter may be utilized to adjust the frequency of the voltage-controlled oscillator in proportion to the counter value by utilizing appropriate techniques other than generating a VCO control voltage with a digital-to-analog converter.
