Abstract: Viscous aqueous electroless plating solutions comprising ionic depositable metal species such as copper or nickel, metal complexing agent such as EDTA, metal reducing agent such as formaldehyde or hypophosphite and thickener such as xantham gum, silica or carboxymethylcellulose have a viscosity greater than 50 cp, for instance up to 20,000 cp. The viscous solutions are useful for electrolessly depositing metal onto moving or inclined catalytic substrates and as a component of kits for applying electrolessly deposited metal images to such surfaces.

C., moisture absorption after equilibrating in boiling water of less than about 3 weight percent and an electrical permittivity at 1000 hertz measured at 25.degree. C. and 50 percent relative humidity of less than 2.8. Preferred polymers comprise N-methyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-ethyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-propyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-butyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-trifluoroethyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-phenyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-trifluoromethylphenyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-cyclohexyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-cycloheptyl norbornene dicarboximide, N-cyclooctyl norbornene dicarboximide.
Abstract: Polyethylene cyclopentanedicarboximides, e.g. having an imide group which is alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, prepared by hydrogenation of a presursor polymer having olefinic unsaturation in the polymer backbone and derived from norbornene dicarboximide units. Such polyethylene cyclopentanedicarboximides exhibit a substantially higher thermo-oxidative stability then the unsaturated precursor polymer.
Abstract: Weatherable thermoplastic polymeric compositions are formed by blending weatherable grafted rubber composition with an aliphatic diester selected from the group consisting of dialkoxyalkoxyalkyl diesters and dialkoxydialkoxyalkyl diesters of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids containing 4 to 8 carbon atoms.
Abstract: High solids compositions are described comprising a glycidamide containing more than one glycidamide group per molecule, a (meth)-acryloyl compound containing more than one (meth)-acryloyl group per molecule and a non-aromatic amine containing more than 2 amine hydrogen atoms per molecule. The compositions can be applied in coating, adhesive and laminating applications. They cure rapidly at room temperature to provide smooth, glossy, weather resistant surfaces.
Abstract: Polymer blends useful as thermoplastic molding resins comprise polycarbonate, PETG and ABS or ASA exhibit enhanced moldability, heat resistance and thick section impact resistance not available in binary blends of the components.
Abstract: Radiation transmission control films comprising closely spaced agglomerates of small particles, e.g. in linear, side-by-side louvers, in a solid matrix where the agglomerates exhibit different radiation permeability than the matrix. Methods of making such films include magnetically aligning particles into louvers in an uncured matrix then curing the matrix to provide louvered film. Such films are useful to control the transmission of light, other electromagnetic radiation and particle radiation.
Abstract: Polymers and articles made therefrom having biocidal surfaces are disclosed wherein the biocidal agent is permanently bonded to the polymer surface. The polymers can be employed to inhibit microbial growth in the adjacent area of the polymer and as disinfectant for fluids such as water. Utility as a contact disinfectant is disclosed.

Abstract: Ethylenically unsaturated carbamates are prepared by reaction of unsaturated isocyanates with the hydroxy groups of polyvinyl acetals. The ethylenically unsaturated carbamates either alone or formulated with unsaturated co-reactants such as (meth)-acryloyl monomers and oligomers, maleates and fumarates provide radiation curable coating compositions.
Abstract: Stationary phases, useful for reversed-phase liquid chromatography, comprise polybutadiene-coated inorganic substrates having enhanced hydrophobicity due to attached alkyl groups, e.g. 2-30 carbon alkyl groups such as an octadecene group, and a low level of carbon-oxygen bonding in the polymer coating, e.g. less than 1 percent of the carbon in the polymer coating is bonded to oxygen.
Abstract: Hydroxy functional epoxidized amino resins comprising glycidamide groups. The polyglycidamides are produced from alkoxymethyl amino resins by reaction with acrylamide, followed by reaction with a polyol to introduce hydroxy functionality and then the unsaturated groups of the hydroxyfunctional acrylamidomethyl amino resins are epoxidized with an epoxidation agent such as hydrogen peroxide. The polyglycidamides are formulated with epoxy reactants to provide curable epoxy systems.
Abstract: A process for forming intermediate sheeting for forming shaped interlayer blanks comprising extruding plasticized polyvinyl butyral melt into an endless straight-sided sheet having a gradient color band extending along one side, the melt forming the region of the sheet laterally of the color band extruding at a greater thickness than that forming the portion containing the color band, thereby providing a wedge-shaped thickness profile in the sheet, quenching the extruded sheet to set the polymer and winding the sheet in roll form. The intermediate sheet is at least about twenty inches wide and the wedge-shaped cross section gradually increases from about 28 to 32 mils at one edge to about 33 to 40 mils at the other edge.
Abstract: Electrolessly deposited metal holograms comprising a polymeric substrate having a holographic relief-patterned surface and a metal reflective layer electrolessly deposited to conform to and reproduce the holographic relief patterned. Light incident to the metal surface is reflected to provide an holographic reproduction of an holographic image inherent in said relief-patterned polymeric substrate.
