Abstract: There is disclosed herein improved processes for the preparation of ether carboxylates by reacting in an alkaline reaction medium the salts of maleic acid and malic acid in the presence of a calcium ion catalyst wherein unreacted acid salts are recovered from the reaction medium by lowering the pH of the reaction medium to a range of from about 4 to about 6 in two steps, the first step ending at a pH in the range of from about 7 to about 8.5. The precipitate is removed and the pH of the reaction medium is then lowered further to a pH in the range of from 4 to 6. The precipitated salts are recycled to the synthesis reaction to prepared additional amounts of product.

Abstract: Polymers of N-cycloalkyl norbornene dicarboximides exhibit high glass transition temperature, low moisture pickup and low dielectric permittivity. Poly(N-cyclohexyl norbornene dicarboximide) has a Tg of 280.degree. C., dielectric constant of about 2.5 and boiling water equilibrated weight gain of only about 2%. Monomers have melting point less than 150.degree. C. and are advantageously prepared by melt polymerization with conventional metathesis ring-opening polymerization catalysts.

Abstract: Blow molding nylon resin blends comprising nylon resin having relative viscosity of less than about 100 blended with sufficient melt viscosity enhancing polymer to be adaptable to blow molding and sheet extrusion. Such blends have a melt viscosity at low deformation rates of at least ten times the melt viscosity at low deformation rates of the nylon resin.
Abstract: Hybrid curable compositions comprising components curable by condensation and components curable by the free radical initiated polymerization. The components curable by condensation reaction comprise amino resins and co-reactants, the condensation reaction being optionally catalyzed by acid catalysts. Abstract: Gallium is purified by washing organic solutions containing hydroxamic acid complexes of gallium with aqueous solutions, individually or in series, especially amine or ammonia solutions, and dilute acid solutions. The method is applicable to a variety of gallium sources, and capable of producing gallium of extremely high purity, especially with a repetitive procedure.
Abstract: Ethylenically unsaturated carbamates prepared by addition of unsaturated isocyanates to the hydroxy groups of styrene allyl alcohol copolymers are formulated with allylic monomers and unsaturated co-reactants selected from (meth)-acryloyl monomers and oligomers, maleates and fumarates to provide air-dry-and heat-curable coating compositions.
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved process for preparing 1-hydroxy-3-oxa-1,2,4,5-pentane tetracarboxylic acid and 3,6-dioxa-1,2,4,5,7,8-octane hexacarboxylic acid wherein the reaction mixture has a solids concentration of above about 60%, by weight whereby the amount of by-product fumarate is reduced.
Abstract: Ethylenically unsaturated carbamates prepared by addition of unsaturated isocyanates to the hydroxy groups of polyvinyl acetals are formulated with allylic monomers and optionally unsaturated co-reactants selected from (meth)-acryloyl monomers and oligomers, maleates and fumarates to provide air-dry- and heat-curable coating compositions.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process from producing granular sodium tripolyphosphate of predetermined particle size by means of calcining sodium orthophosphate dried from water solution and milled to a predetermined particle size. The tripolyphosphate is produced having approximately the same particle size distribution as the orthophosphate feed. Moisturizing the feed prior to calcining increases the assay of the product.
