  • Patent number: 5517582
Abstract: A system for compressing information arranges unprocessed information into a plurality of data planes. The data planes are converted into a combined planar data output. The combined planar data output is created by regrouping data elements which make up the unprocessed information. The regrouping is such that the entropy of the unprocessed information is increased. This provides increased compressibility of the data. The combined planar data output is compressed using standard information compression techniques. Data is reconstructed by uncompressing compressed data and rearranging it into its original format.

  • Patent number: 5375655
Abstract: An improved heat sink apparatus that utilizes either natural or forced convection to transfer heat generated by a high temperature medium to a lower temperature medium or converts cold energy from a low temperature fluid or solid medium to a different or higher temperature stage or condition of energy. The apparatus includes a thermally conductive base plate, a plurality of thick corrugated finned assembly components constructed and arranged in abutting relationship and offset from each other so as to cause a circuitous path of fluid flow therethrough. The apparatus also may include the base plate and a plurality of thick, sawtooth shaped, or segmented fins mounted thereon. The length of fluid travel from one finned component to an abutting finned component along the heat transfer surface is controlled in order to prevent development of thermal boundary layer on the inner surface of the finned assembly components.

  • Patent number: 5265995
Abstract: A front end loader and backhoe construction machinery vehicle. The backhoe and operator's cab are formed from a unitary construction wherein the cab has an undercarriage adaptable to rotate a complete revolution of 360 degrees on a bearing arrangement secured to supporting structure mounted on a main frame of the vehicle. A system of hydraulic controls is effective to raise, lower, telescope and rotate the boom, dipperstick and bucket of the backhoe. Sensor means are provided to disenable operation of the backhoe assembly if it has insufficient clearance with the front end of the machine during rotation of the cab and backhoe assembly. The control system is effective to raise, lower and rotate the front end loader assembly. There is provided a front end and a rear end stabilizing assembly so as to permit the vehicle to work on a stable, rigid platform during digging and moving of earth by the backhoe assembly.

  • Patent number: 5257891
Abstract: A crane and lift apparatus for controlling the lifting and lowering of large cargo containers. A trolley assembly includes a hoist drum from which is suspended a system of cable or rope reevings connected to material securing assembly. The apparatus is effective to unload containers stacked one above another from one location to an alternate location. The system of cable reevings permits the raising and lowering of containers in planes defined by X, Y, and Z axes. The cables are deployed from the hoist drum on the trolley assembly to sheaves disposed at the four corners of the material securing assembly and then returned to anchor assemblies secured to an undercarriage of the trolley assembly. The sheaves are selectively angled and located in headblock assemblies positioned on the material securing assembly. A system of brakes controls movement of the cables through the sheaves.

  • Patent number: 5231663
Abstract: An image processing system receives a series of pixel elements representative of a scanned image. The system converts the pixel elements into a vector representation of the scanned image. The vector representation of the scanned image is compared with known vector representations. Based upon this comparison, the image processing system performs various functions such as providing an output or controlling the system. The image processing system may be used for mark sense recognition in which mark information is decoded from learned forms based upon a key. An output is provided based upon a comparison between the marks and the key.

  • Patent number: 5194008
Abstract: Weapon training simulation system including a computer operated video display scene whereon is projected a plurality of visual targets. The computer controls the display scene and the targets, whether stationary or moving, and processes data of a point of aim sensor apparatus associated with a weapon operated by a trainee. The sensor apparatus is sensitive to non-visible or subliminal modulated areas having a controlled contrast of brightness between the target scene and the targets. The sensor apparatus locates a specific subliminal modulated area and the computer determines the location of a target image on the display scene with respect to the sensor apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5117296
Abstract: A novel technique for synthetic holography is disclosed. An image combiner such as a hologram comprising a number of independent off-axis holographic optical elements serves to image a set of off-axis regions to images disposed at various distances along an optical axis; this set of images comprises a synthesized three dimensional object wavefront. These images are derived substantially from off-axis incoherent-to-coherent converters, such as liquid crystal light valves illuminated with a laser. A photosensitive medium is exposed to the wavefront comprising the set of sectional images, the 3-D object wavefront, and simultaneously to a reference wavefront composed of a source coherent with that wave source used to illuminate the incoherent to coherent converters. The resulting synthetic hologram can thus be made with one exposure.
