  • Patent number: 6679479
Abstract: A scissor lift mechanism for use on a coil car or the like, the lift having scissor legs connected to each other by a shaft. The lift is raised and lowered by a means for providing a generally vertical force to the shaft. The means may be provided by a hydraulic cylinder and a bell crank mechanism. The bell crank mechanism redirects the force from a hydraulic cylinder to a generally vertical force on a hinge connecting the scissor legs of the lift. The bell crank mechanism allows the strength of the lift to be maximized while retaining a low profile design.

  • Patent number: 6650525
Abstract: The present invention is a surface mount component carrier comprised of a disk of insulating material having at least two apertures. The disk is substantially covered by a metalized ground surface and includes at least two conductive pads surrounding the apertures, and insulating bands which surround each conductive pad. The insulating bands separate and electrically isolates the conductive pads from the metalized ground surface. A surface mount component, such as a differential and common mode filter, is positioned lengthwise between the two conductive pads and operably coupled to the carrier. Once the surface mount component is coupled to the carrier, the combination can be manipulated, either manually or through various types of automated equipment, without subjecting the surface mount component to mechanical and physical stresses normally associated with the handling of miniature components.

  • Patent number: 6589545
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of controlling insect infestation whereby an insecticidal coating having an extended residual period of a few months to a year is applied to a surface. A removable cover may be positioned near the surface to create a substantially darkened region to exploit some insects' natural tendencies to hide in dark places during daylight hours. Alternatively, the insecticide may be applied prior to the hatching of the insect eggs to control the population upon hatching. The method is especially effective for controlling the presence of gypsy moth caterpillars on trees. The present method may be accomplished by covering a portion of a tree trunk with an insecticidal coating containing an active ingredient such as chlorpyrifos, pyrethroid, permethrin, or tralomethrin and covering the coated area with burlap. In addition, the method of the present invention can be used to control the presence of insects on the sides of houses or other structures.
