  • Patent number: 5492154
Abstract: The method and apparatus are used to produce a wave winding. To simplify and accelerate the production of wave windings, after winding at least one turn, a stripping stroke pushes the wire between and axially along the first and second shaping elements, which causes radial deformation of the wire to take place in each continual stripping substroke.

  • Patent number: 5486196
Abstract: An apparatus for closing wide skin defects may be used with two long interdermal needles configured for insertion underneath skin close to margins of a skin defect. The skin closing apparatus may include two U-shaped retaining members configured as a flange connecting two legs and forming a U-shaped profile. Each of the legs may include a sharp hook at the end of the leg adapted for piercing the skin and engaging one of the long interdermal needles. Each retaining member may include a pivoting platform that pivots up to 20.degree. from an initial position indicated by a detent mechanism. A contracting mechanism such as a screw may connect the retaining members and approximate the interdermal needles, while bringing the skin margins together until final closure of the skin defect results. The skin closing apparatus may also include a clutch mechanism configured to disengage the screw from a knob or handle, when a predetermined force is met or exceeded.

  • Patent number: 5470433
Abstract: A process for the delignification of cellulose fiber plant raw material for the production of pulp using separate impregnating and delignifying stages, each using alcohol and alkali. The process may be carried out in batch or in a continuous process. Less alcohol is used in the delignification stage than in the delignification stage. The pulp produced has very good properties because different amounts of alcohol are being used in the impregnation stage and in the delignification stage.

  • Patent number: 5457467
Abstract: The antenna combination has at least two individual antennas which form part of at least one resonant circuit which appears on an electrically conductive surface. The output signals of the individual antennas are combined, for example, added. The antennas are preferably located at the edges of the electrically conductive structure. The antenna combination of the invention is particularly suitable for transmitting and receiving in vehicles because antennas which have transmitting and receiving properties equivalent or superior to those of rod and disc antennas can be built into the vehicle. The antenna combination can be used advantageously in a diversity process.

  • Patent number: 5426345
Abstract: A high voltage electronic tube comprises an electrode arrangement comprising an outer electrode formed by a cylindrical metal jacket, an inner electrode supported substantially centrally with respect to said outer electrode by an electrode support arranged in an insulating disc providing a vacuumtight closure for the tube and at least one intermediate electrode formed by a metal sleeve arranged concentrically between the outer and inner electrodes. From a high voltage supply circuit comprising an alternating current source and a multi stage voltage multiplier a ground potential is applied to the outer electrode and a high potential of a significant magnitude is applied to the inner electrode, whereas the intermediate electrode is connected to an intermediate stage of the voltage multiplier for receiving a potential of a magnitude between the potentials applied to the inner and outer electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5392476
Abstract: A collapsible hammock stand is provided for suspending a hammock above the ground. The collapsible hammock stand includes a collapsible longitudinal base member having lateral ground engaging support members at each end. The hammock stand also includes upright supports extending upwardly from the ends of the longitudinal base member for selectively receiving the ends of a hammock. The various components of the hammock stand are pivot and/or slide mounted to one another, which allows the hammock stand to be collapsed quickly and easily for transportation. The hammock stand is of a one-piece construction to prevent misplacement of the various individual components.

  • Patent number: 5367784
Abstract: The invention relates to a roll tape measure, consisting of a housing upper part and housing lower part, a perforation in the housing upper part for a release button, a spring drum with tension spring placed in the housing, whose end is connected with the housing lower part, a back stop for the tension spring, a flexible tape measure rolled up on the spring drum and a release catch that can be actuated by the release button. The perforation for receiving release button is placed in the housing upper part eccentrically to the housing and release button is connected with a U-shaped element, into which a tongue designed in an elastically springy manner extends, which is connected on one end with the ends of both legs of U-shaped element and with release button and on whose other end the release catch is placed. The U-shaped element with elastic tongue extends over center axis of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5346458
Abstract: An apparatus for converting electric energy into pumping energy is disclosed. The apparatus is utilized to drive a cardiac assist device or an artificial heart. These devices are volume displacement blood pumps which require an alternating force or pressure for their pumping action. To generate this alternating pressure, a centrifugal pump driven by an electric motor pumps a hydraulic fluid which acts on the diaphragm of a blood pump. The alternating flow of the hydraulic transmitting fluid is generated by an axial shift of the impeller of the centrifugal pump.

  • Patent number: 5341831
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an irrigation cycle of an area of soil or like material are disclosed. The irrigation cycle may stop as soon as a wetting front of the applied fluid reaches a depth Zi. The wetting front may continue downward into the soil by drainage and percolation to a predetermined final depth Zf. The irrigation cycle controlling apparatus may include an irrigation controller such as a water valve and a wetness sensor configured as a tubular rod. The wetness sensor may be composed of a plurality of porous, hydrophilic plastic material rings, which are separated from each other by a plurality of non-porous, non-conductive rings. A pair of electrodes may contact the top and bottom surfaces of each porous ring and may emit signals to a central processing unit in accordance with the degree of soil wetness. A switching circuit may be connected to the central processing unit and to each of the electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5341721
Abstract: An ammunition drum for a large caliber weapon may have two or more drum elements with parallel rotating axles. The ammunition is located in one or more concentric layers of ammunition holders around the rotating axles. To reduce the structural volume and to simplify the loading process, each of the drum elements may contain a recess extending at least (in the width of an ammunition) partially over the length of the drum element and from the circumference of the drum element at least partially to its rotating axle. The drum elements are located relative to each other in a manner such that in an alternating sequence in the position of one drum element in which its recess is located in the connecting plane between the rotating axles of the drum elements, the other drum element may be positioned with all of its ammunition holders in this connecting plane, from where the ammunition may be transferred in a translatory motion into the weapon.
