  • Patent number: 4559706
Abstract: The machine 10 may be used to emboss characters of embossed script, and comprises a paper support 12 and an escapement mechanism 20 from a typewriter. Embossable paper is fed from around a roller 22 to a position between an embossing stylus 14 and a resilient anvil 28. The stylus 14 is moved against the anvil to impress the paper, and moves in a horizontal plane to emboss characters in the paper. A coupling 18 comprising a pantograph mechanism causes the stylus 14 to follow with reduced amplitude, movement of a describing member 16. The describing member 16 is a ring in which the user's finger is placed. The finger is run over a fingerboard 34 to describe the desired character, which is embossed in the paper by the stylus 14. The fingerboard has grooves to guide the finger. After each character is completed, the escapement mechanism 20 is operated to move the paper support 12 to present a fresh area of the paper to the stylus.

  • Patent number: 4556364
Abstract: A centrifugal pump comprises an impeller which rotates at the center of a volute casing. The open side of the casing is closed by means of a wear plate which is fixed relative to the casing and which has a central inlet opening. The impeller includes a rear plate and a plurality of curved blades radiating from an open central portion of the rear plate. An annular plate is fixed to the outermost edges of the blades at the inlet side of the impeller. A cylindrical sleeve extends in an axial direction from near the inner edge of the annular plate through the opening in the wear plate. The annular plate and sleeve protect the edge of the wear plate and impede grit and sand entering between the annular plate and around the opening and the wear plate causing wear when the pump is used to pump slurry containing grit or sand.

  • Patent number: 4550745
Abstract: This invention relates to a device for the constant replenishment of an animal dipping bath, or for use in any situation where it is desired to have a concentrate diluted with a liquid with little or no liquid supply pressure. The device consists of a two-component rocking-pan arrangement 8 and 9 for receiving and discharging the mixture and a metering arrangement for discharging concentrate in the pan. The metering arrangement consists of a double acting single piston and cylinder pump, linked to the pan, and comprises a single piston 22, and a single cylinder partitioned by the piston into 2 chambers, 25 and 26 each chamber being capable of receiving and discharging quantities of concentrate. The arrangement of the pump is such that when one chamber is discharging concentrate into the pan the other is receiving concentrate from the supply line, and concentrate is delivered to that one of the two components which is about to be filled with diluent. The device is particularly useful for sheep-dipping purposes.

  • Patent number: 4549620
Abstract: A weighing system is disclosed which operates in conjunction with a scale that has a trigger mechanism for terminating the flow of material into the scale's bucket. This system automatically periodically revises a tare signal stored in a latch circuit for combination with a weight signal to produce a net weight signal. The tare signal provides a measure of the residue stuck in the scale bucket. In an additional embodiment of the invention, a programmable controller is used as the means for periodically resetting the tare signal and is used to evaluate the final weight data to determine the average weight and the standard deviation of the weights. These determinations are used by the controller in combination with a predetermined weight to arrive at a computer setpoint signal for adjustment of the triggering of the flow termination so that the final weights will most closely approximate the predetermined weight.

  • Patent number: 4523903
Abstract: A dosing pump (1) is created allowing to accurately dose a medium to be dosed as a function of time or of a flow rate. The dosing pump (1) utilizes a predelivery obtained by a diaphragm (11) as well as a piston-cylinder-pump for dosing. The pump cylinder is connected with the suction conduit so as to prevent any pressure drop when the piston emerges from the cylinder. A crystallization or polymerization of the dosing agent in the piston-cylinder-means is thereby prevented.
