  • Patent number: 4565025
Abstract: A fishing pole mount comprising a helical coil and an integral shank, removably inserted into a small socket depending from a plate, to be used on boats without leaving parts projecting upwardly when not in use, and which is of a sufficiently small size that it can be used in different places around the gunwales of the boat. The socket may be vertical, in which event the shank is bent at an appropriate angle. In either case, there may be a lug pinched out of the side of the shank upward from the bottom end of the shank and engages in a notch in the side of the socket to prevent the rotation of the pole and coil and to limit the movement of the shank into the socket.

  • Patent number: 4557656
Abstract: A materials handling device, such as a palletizer and/or depalletizer, which may be adapted to operate in either mode, has a mechanism, for feeding pallets to be loaded and ejecting pallets which have been unloaded, at the top of the device. The pallets are introduced into a bay and placed onto an elevator and sequentially indexed upwards a distance equal to each layer to be unloaded or downward a distance equal to each layer to be loaded. The pallets in the machine are indexed to a standard position. Ejection and introduction of loaded and unloaded pallets is automatically sequenced.

  • Patent number: 4548602
Abstract: An intercostal tube designed to be inserted between the ribs of a patient for drainage purposes of the chest area, made of relatively stiff but pliable plastic material with its inserting end at a sharp taper with a blunted end, that by being arcuate, preserves the adequate rigidity to permit the tube to be compressed transversely and inserted between the ribs, without widening the portion of the tube required to pass between the ribs, which would require a larger opening in the patient, and increased pain, and that avoids snagging tissue during insertion.

  • Patent number: 4545848
Abstract: A method of preparing pseudobinary mercury, cadmium, telluride (HCT) crystals by controlled crystal growth in a fused silica ampule uses a modified Bridgman-Stockbarger method. In this method, the alloy is cast into one end of the ampule, inverted, heated to a temperature between the liquidus and solidus temperatures of the alloy and directionally solidified in a two zone furnace. The parameters of the solidification treatment are controlled according to the formulaT.sub.U.sup.4 -T.sub.I.sup.4 =T.sub.I.sup.4 -T.sub.L.sup.4,where T.sub.U =the temperature of the furnace upper zone, T.sub.L =the temperature of the furnace lower zone, and T.sub.I =the solidus temperature of the crystal composition. The rate of transfer of the crystal through the furnace and the size of the zone barrier are also controlled. The modified method imparts homogeneity to the crystal composition, both axially of the crystal and radially. The crystals produced by the method have superior properties and a much higher yield.

  • Patent number: 4541653
Abstract: A suspension system for a drive axle includes a torque beam fixedly secured to the axle, one or two air springs extending between the torque beam and the chassis, and a universal joint comprised of two transversely mounted rubber bushings mounting the forward end of the torque beam to the chassis. The torque beam may be overslung or underslung from the axle, and the universal joint mounted with its transverse bushing substantially on the same horizontal center line as the axle. The drive axle suspension may also have a beam guide mounted to the torque beam and extending upwardly adjacent the chassis frame, or a cross radius rod to limit lateral movement. Another embodiment of the suspension is for a steer axle which has a straight torque beam and either an outboard beam guide or an aft vertical rail guide to limit the lateral displacement of the suspension with respect to the chassis.

  • Patent number: 4540471
Abstract: A solvent reclaiming unit has a still for distillation of contaminated solvents to recover clean solvent from the solvent vapor. The still has a tapered or conical bottom heat exchange surface surrounded by a heat source. The still has scrapers which wipe the heat exchange surface to prevent scaling of the heat exchange surface. The scrapers are driven during the distillation process by an external motor and reducer. The contact of the scrapers with the heat exchange surface is adjustable from outside of the still to maintain wiping contact. The wiping portion or blades of the scrapers may be formed of brass or other soft material attached to a harder material, such as a spring stainless steel. A safety stop is provided in the interior of the vessel so that the blades may not be adjusted to the point that the harder steel comes in contact with the heat exchange surface.
