    Abstract: A polar thermoplastic and acrylate or ethylene acrylate based polar rubbers form a useful thermoplastic vulcanizate when the rubber is selectively cured with curatives which do not affect the polar thermoplastic and do not generate volatile organics. Examples of thermoplastics include aromatic polyesters, polycarbonates, poly(phenylene oxide), or combinations thereof. Examples of curatives include compounds with a multifunctional oxazoline, oxazine or imidazoline, which can react with functional groups such as carboxylic acid groups on the rubber.

    Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of thermoplastic elastomers by hydrosilylation crosslinking of a butyl rubber component, in which a platinum containing hydrosilylation catalyst is used. The butyl rubber component includes a copolymer of at least isobutylene and an aromatic divinyl compound such as divinylbenzene. The copolymer of at least isobutylene and divinylbenzene is significantly easier to crosslink into a substantially insoluble rubber in a thermoplastic vulcanizate than isobutylene copolymers with only unsaturated repeating units from conjugated dienes. A crosslinked rubber component is obtained in the thermoplastic elastomer composition.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a lubricating basestock comprising a blend of (A) at least one polyalkylene glycol and (B) at least one alkyl aromatic. Additives, such as antioxidants, corrosion inhibitors, and metal deactivators, can be added to the lubricating basestock. In one embodiment, the lubricating composition is free of naphthol. The blend can also be used in combination with a variety of oils of lubricating viscosity, with or without additives therein. According to the present invention, the lubricating composition exhibits excellent oxidation and thermal stability, demulsibility, and hydrolytic stability. The lubricating composition is particularly useful as a positive displacement compressor lubricant.

    Abstract: Blocky chlorinated polyolefins are disclosed as compatibilizers of PVC and/or CPVC resins with polyolefin elastomers. The blocky chlorinated polyolefins facilitate the dispersion of the elastomers as a dispersed phase with the proper size for impact modification of the PVC and/or CPVC. The blocky chlorinated polyolefin provides better adhesion between the elastomer and the PVC and/or CPVC providing better physical properties such as impact strength as measured by Notched Izod and variable height impact testing (VHIT) than did the randomly chlorinated polyolefins, often used as processing aids and as impact modifiers in PVC or CPVC. The differences in properties achieved with blocky chlorinated polyolefins versus randomly chlorinated polyolefins are attributed to the individual blocks of the blocky polyolefin being compatible (and/or co-crystalizable) with either the polyolefin elastomer or the PVC/CPVC resulting in better adhesion between phases.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the transfer efficiency during the electrostatic spraying of a coating material (e.g. powder coating) is provided. The transfer efficiency can be measured during the test cycle rather than measuring an average transfer efficiency for an electrostatic spray cycle. A cycle may include the initial time when the substrate is "uncoated or clean" and an end point of the test when electrical insulating effects caused by accumulated powder on the substrate lead to a reduction in the transfer efficiency. The method uses computer based calculation software and a computer. The computer is connected to load cells that measure weight changes of a target substrate and a vessel containing the coating material to be sprayed.

    Abstract: Thermoplastic vulcanizate blends are prepared from a semi-crystalline polymer and a rubbery copolymer derived from copolymerizing at least one alpha-olefin monomer and at least one cyclic olefin copolymer. The rubbery copolymer also includes repeat units from at least one polyene monomer. The polyene monomer provides residual unsaturation for crosslinking of said rubbery copolymer. Crosslinking the rubbery copolymer of the blend generally reduces tension set, compression set and oil swell in aliphatic solvents. The cyclic olefin monomer reduces oil swell in aliphatic oils.
