Abstract: A display stand erected from component parts of sheet material, such as corrugated paperboard, includes display trays received within notches in vertical columns secured at the lower ends of the columns to a base and bridged at the upper ends of the columns by a header such that the notches each establish a bight which is biased into clamping engagement with the display trays to secure the display trays and the columns within a rigid integrated assembly.
Abstract: A mounting bracket is affixed to a computer circuit board by tubular projections formed unitary with mounting lugs on the mounting bracket and passed through complementary mounting holes in the circuit board, the tubular projections being upset to establish a flanged headed portion on each tubular projection, which flanged headed portion is urged against the circuit board with a controlled force to clamp the circuit board between the flanged headed portion and the mounting lug with a securing force which is independent of variations in the thickness of the circuit board.
Abstract: A self-contained, portable flood alarm is installed at a prospective flood site by merely placing the flood alarm on a flood-prone surface at the site and activates an alarm signal in response to the occurrence of a flood condition on the flood-prone surface as a result of the flotation of a buoyant element of the flood alarm, the buoyant element being capable of floating the entire flood alarm so that the alarm signal will commence immediately upon the onset of the flood condition and will continue independent of the height of the crest of the flood condition.
Abstract: A rain water sensitive switch construction for use in connection with a lawn sprinkling system includes a pair of horizontally oriented perforated electrical contact plates spaced apart vertically to establish an air gap between the spaced apart contact plates, and a housing within which the contact plates are mounted above ground so that rain water passes into the housing and through the contact plates to bridge the gap and effect electrical contact between the contact plates immediately upon the onset of rain and is not retained between the plates so that electrical contact between the contact plates is discontinued immediately when the rain stops.
Abstract: A deuterium lamp starting circuit utilizing the arc-defining aperture cage of the lamp as the arc-starting electrode to enable the application of a positive, low starting voltage simultaneously with the application of the filament voltage. This positive, low starting voltage is applied to the cage which operates as a starting electrode. After the anode to cathode arc strikes and the anode voltage decreases below the cutoff level, current between the cage and the cathode is reduced and the current flows between the cathode and the anode of the tube.
Abstract: A cement spacer system for interoperatively converting an acetabular cup component of the type constructed for cementless affixation to a construction suitable for cemented affixation includes a plurality of cement spacers associated with a spacer inserter for selectively inserting the cement spacers into the wall of the acetabular cup component, during the implant procedure, to provide the acetabular cup component with cement spacers suitable for cemented affixation of the acetabular cup component.
Abstract: Oral hygiene methods and compositions for reducing plaque and for the prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases of bacterial etiology by significantly reducing bacterial activity in the oral cavity through the inclusion of at least about 0.03% by weight of an extract of the perennial herb periwinkle in the compositions and applying the compositions to the oral cavity.
Abstract: A shade construction of the type in which a vertically hanging sheet of shade material is divided by pleats into shade panels, each of which will fold into a forwardly-directed folded configuration upon retraction of the shade, includes a rearwardly-extending loop in the shade material at each pleat, the loop having portions extending in directions parallel to the hanging sheet of shade material so as to assure that the shade material is bent sharply rearwardly at transition portions of the shade material where the panels meet the pleats such that the shade material itself will bias each panel into an aesthetically well-formed forwardly-directed folded configuration.
Abstract: A protective sheath of the type supplied with a portion of the protective sheath in a rolled up configuration for application to a member by unrolling the rolled up portion along the member includes application tabs interleaved with the rolled up portion of the protective sheath and available for gripping to pull the application tabs and unroll the rolled up portion along the member and assist in the application of the protective sheath to the member. In some embodiments, the protective sheath includes removal tabs extending along the applied protective sheath and available for gripping to pull the removal tabs and roll up a portion of the protective sheath to assist in the removal of the protective sheath from the member.
Abstract: A drum dryer for use in the manufacture of bituminous concrete asphalt is provided with a jacket including a layer of ceramic fiber insulation bonded too an outer sheath of aluminum, the jacket being wrapped the outer peripheral surface of the wall of the drum and secured in place with bands of stainless steel strapping so as to reduce to a minimum heat loss due to dissipation of heat from the outer peripheral surface of the drum wall, thereby enabling conservation of energy, while affording protection to personnel and equipment in the vicinity of the dryer drum against excessive heat. Weather seals are provided for inhibiting the entry of ambient moisture between the jacket and the outer peripheral surface of the wall of the drum.
Abstract: An adaptor is interposed between a socket in a ceramic femoral head component and a post on a femoral stem component in the femoral stem of a prosthetic hip joint to enable the use of a taper within the socket which is steeper than the taper on the post so as to reduce hoop stresses in the ceramic femoral head component while at the same time accomplishing securement of the ceramic femoral head component upon the post of the existing femoral stem component.

Abstract: A femoral stem surgical instrument system includes a handle component and an impact component, either one of which is selectively coupled with a femoral stem through a recess in the femoral stem, the recess providing separate facilities for the appropriate coupling of either of the components with the femoral stem, with each of the separate facilities being protected against damage when the other of the facilities is in use.

Abstract: A work table for use in connection with a sheet metal brake is mounted on the frame of the sheet metal brake for swinging movement between a first position, where the table extends over the clamp of the brake to provide a convenient work surface for the preparation of a sheet of metal to be bent in the brake, and a second position, where the table is swung away from the clamp to enable access to the clamp for subsequent bending of the prepared sheet of metal, and is arranged to be biased by gravity into selective retention at either of the first and second positions.
Abstract: A pedestal base is assembled from a central post and radially extending legs, each leg having a hub portion including a hub segment, a hub sector and a groove segment between the hub segment and the hub sector such that upon abutment of the hub portions into a full cylindrical hub configuration, the central post is inserted into the groove established by the groove segments and locked in place to secure the hub portions in the full cylindrical hub configuration and the central post within the full cylindrical hub configuration without further supplemental fastener elements.
Abstract: A sign holder includes a frame secured to a clevis journaled on a bracket for attachment to a price channel at the edge of a display shelf for projecting the frame, and a sign carried in the frame, laterally from the shelf edge into a display position of the sign, the clevis including an integral camming surface and a resiliently flexible arm for allowing swinging of the frame relative to the bracket out of the display position of the sign in response to collisions with the sign when the frame is in the display position of the sign, the establishing a biasing force tending to return the frame to and maintain the frame in the display position of the sign.
Abstract: A flow cell is utilized on-line in the analysis of molten polymer and includes diamond windows for passing mid to far infrared radiation through the molten polymer flowing through the flow cell, the diamond windows being in the form of relatively thin disk-like elements each affixed to a carrier member in the wall of the flow cell and spanning a relatively large diameter bore in the carrier member, the overall diameter of each disk-like element being only slightly greater than the corresponding bore in the carrier member such that the volume of diamond is minimized in relation to the diameter of the windows.
