Abstract: On-line rheological measurements are made utilizing a rheometer of the type in which a first metering pump delivers diverted melt from a process main stream to a capillary passage and a second metering pump returns the diverted melt from the capillary passage to the process main stream and the viscosity of the diverted melt is measured by controlling the rate of flow of the melt to maintain constant the pressure drop between spaced apart locations along the capillary passage and measuring the temperature of the melt in the capillary passage. The measurements may be made while controlling the speed of the second metering pump independent of the speed of the first metering pump to maintain the pressure at the exit of the capillary passage essentially constant.

Abstract: A drum dryer for use in the manufacture of bituminous concrete asphalt is provided with a jacket including a layer of ceramic fiber insulation bonded to an outer sheath of aluminum, the jacket being wrapped around the outer peripheral surface of the wall of the drum and secured in place with bands of stainless steel strapping so as to reduce to a minimum heat loss due to dissipation of heat from the outer peripheral surface of the drum wall, thereby enabling conservation of energy, while affording protection to personnel and equipment in the vicinity of the dryer drum against excessive heat.

Abstract: An orienter accepts trigger pump cap assemblies of the type in which a trigger is spaced from a cap along the pump housing of the cap assembly, the cap assemblies being presented serially in either one of first and second front-to-back orientations, and discharges the cap assemblies in only the second one of the orientations, the orienter including a pusher member which engages the pump housing of each cap assembly, as the cap assemblies travel downstream through the orienter, and pushes laterally against each pump housing to rotate the pump housing about the cap of those cap assemblies in the first orientation to reverse the front-to-back orientation of those cap assemblies so that all of the cap assemblies emerge oriented in the second orientation.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for measuring airflow in a duct utilizing the technique of vortex shedding include inducing the shedding of vortices at a frequency within the range of sound, sensing the sounds generated by the shedding of vortices to determine the frequency of vortex shedding, and converting the frequency of vortex shedding into information indicative of airflow measurements.
Abstract: A stem-type femoral prosthesis has a calcar collar selectively installed on the stem of the prosthesis or removed from the stem interoperatively by sliding the collar in transverse directions between the medial and lateral sides of the stem, at the proximal end of the stem, to facilitate seating of the stem without the collar during implant and to enable subsequent removal of stem by first releasing the collar from the stem to gain access to the affixed surfaces of the stem beneath the collar.
Abstract: A coupling arrangement for selectively coupling and uncoupling the handle and the blade of a surgical instrument, such as a broach, includes a key projecting axially from the handle and receivable within a first recess portion in the blade to engage locking pins upon transverse movement of the key into locking engagement with the locking pins, and a plunger selectively movable into a further recess portion contiguous with the key for precluding relative movement of the handle and the blade in the transverse direction so as to maintain the key in locking engagement, the plunger being selectively retractable from the further recess portion to permit relative transverse movement of the handle and the blade, and consequent movement of the key out of locking engagement with the locking pins, to enable uncoupling of the handle from the blade.
Abstract: A package for a sterile prosthetic implant element includes a tray received within a receptacle and having hinged leaves such that upon placement of the tray within the receptacle and folding the leaves of the tray, the prosthetic implant element is confined within a defined envelope wherein the element is protected against damage during handling resulting from shipping and storage and is sealed against contamination, and upon withdrawal from the receptacle, the tray is opened to present the sterile element directly to the surgeon for implant, without the necessity for additional handling.
Abstract: A lighting system includes a plurality of elongate tubular members joined together in a selected array, each tubular member carrying lamp assemblies therein and aimed laterally through apertures in the wall of the tubular member, the lamp assemblies being captured within the tubular members by coupling means enabling rotation of the lamp assemblies for aiming purposes and selective insertion and withdrawal of the lamp assemblies through corresponding apertures for removal and replacement of expended lamps.
Abstract: An apparatus for orienting and delivering dispenser cap assemblies includes a transfer arrangement for accepting oriented cap assemblies from an orienter and stabilizing the cap assemblies into a stabilized stream of oriented cap assemblies for further operations, the transfer arrangement having a guide track with a gate section at a jam-prone portion of the guide track and a diverter section upstream of the gate section such that upon the occurence of a jam in the jam-prone portion, the gate section is actuated to open the jam-prone portion and clear the jam, and the diverter section is actuated to divert further cap assemblies away from the jam-prone portion until the jam is cleared.
Abstract: A book rack of selective capacity includes end members and a base extending longitudinally between the end members, the base having an undulate configuration including undular support members and an undular basal member, the undulations being in a flexible conformable material such that the length of the base may be expanded and contracted selectively into conformance with a particular longitudinal length by bending of the undulations, thereby providing a longitudinal spacing between the end members corresponding to the desired capacity of the book rack.
Abstract: A storage box has a container body erected from a unitary, flat blank to provide side walls, end walls, a closed bottom, an open top and cleats extending along the side walls for supporting a removable tray within the container body, between the closed bottom and the open top, the tray being movable along the cleats, relative to the end walls, for selective access to the contents of the box beneath the tray, and a cover for closing the open top of the container body.
