Specifically, a perching deterrent having a saddle made to fit over any desired member of a structure and deterrent extensions may be used separately or in combination. The deterrent extensions may protrude in various configurations from the above-mentioned saddle to inhibit, deter, or insulate animals contacting structures. Also possible is an insulator cap with spiral conductor covers.

Abstract: A hand held or portable device (1) is configured to include a multitude of factors from which sporting success conditions such as applicable to fishing and hunting success may be predicted. In one embodiment, these may include: a lunar information element (2), a solar information element (3), a barometric information element (4), and a temperature information element (5) that provide input (directly or indirectly) to combination elements (6) and a sport success prediction element (7) that may provide a simplistic or other display (8) to a user. A composite barometric-lunar-solar-temperature effect may be calculated for the present or for a remote time and date through a future time forecast element (17).

Abstract: A container transport system can have adjustable neck guides coupled along a container transport line and a neck guide positioning system operably coupled thereto. The neck guide positioning system can move the neck guides relative to the container transport line in correspondence with shapes of containers. The neck guides can extend continuously along the container transport line.

Abstract: Generally, this invention relates to the development of field monitoring methodology for new substances and sensing chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and terrorist substances. It also relates to a portable test kit which may be utilized to measure concentrations of halogenated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the field. Specifically it relates to systems for reliably field sensing the potential presence of such items while also distinguishing them from other elements potentially present. It also relates to overall systems and processes for sensing, reacting, and responding to an indicated presence of such substance, including modifications of existing halogenated sensors and arrayed sensing systems and methods.

Abstract: The invention relates to improved multi-axis joysticks and associated multi-axis optical displacement measurement means. The displacement measuring means may include one or more light emitters and one or more light detectors, preferably mounted in a planar hexagonal array. The relative position of an adjacent movable reflector assembly can be measured in six degrees of freedom by variations in detected light amplitude. Various ergonomic configurations of six axis joystick embodiments which may be facilitated by the compact design of the transducer means are disclosed. Means for dynamically adjusting coordinate transformations for construction machinery control are also disclosed.

Abstract: Microphone stand attachment systems to attach a support base to a longitudinal axial element easily, quickly and securely. An attachment guide may include a threaded plug and a support base may include a threaded socket. In embodiments, a male tapered flange may frictionally lock with a female tapered element of a socket to secure a longitudinal axial element to a support base. Specific attachment structures, in embodiments, are also described, as are various plugs, tapers, sockets and methods of attaching a support base to a longitudinal axial element.

Abstract: Systems and methods for co-enhancing contaminant degradation such as LNAPL and DNAPL degradation. Embodiments of the inventive technology may relate to assuring adequate amounts (e.g., concentrations) of certain substances (e.g., nitrogen, electron acceptor, bacteria, microbial substrate) so that degradation of LNAPL and DNAPL is enhanced as intended. Any of the inventive methods may involve the amendment of groundwater with one or more particular substance (uric acid, electron acceptors, microbial substrate, as but a few examples) in order to enhance DNAPL, and perhaps also, LNAPL degradation.

Abstract: At least one embodiment of the present inventive technology focuses on a vaneless diffuser adapted for establishment extra-radially of a centrifugal fan, wherein the diffuser may effect an optimal transformation of velocity pressure into static pressure of a fluid (e.g., air) impelled by a centrifugal fan by decreasing that fluid's tangential velocity as it travels through the diffuser, without causing recirculation of air output from the diffuser back into the diffuser. Such diffuser may effect such a decrease in tangential velocity by radially extending the interface through which impelled air is output from the diffuser to a downflow fluid handling environment such as, e.g., a scroll and/or a plenum. The diffuser may converge in a direction parallel with the axis of rotation of the centrifugal fan to avoid fluid recirculation and/or may incorporate acoustical material so as to reduce the amount of material necessary for effective noise reduction as compared with convention noise reduction methods.

At least one embodiment of another aspect of the inventive technology focuses on methods and apparatus relative to an encrypted, character-based identifier usable to adequately identify an event (a purchase, e.g.), an object (a product purchased, e.g.) or substance (a specimen collected from an individual for drug testing or clinical testing); in a preferred embodiment, this identifier is based on a time and entity associated with the event, object or substance to be identified.

Abstract: A method for establishing certifiable patient informed consent for a medical procedure, where, in one embodiment, the patient interacts with a video training system until mastery of all required information is successfully achieved. Training techniques which permit elicitation of measurable behaviors from a patient as a guide to discerning the level of knowledge of the patient are utilized. Certification is only granted when the measurable behavior approximately coincide with the legal and medical standards for establishing informed consent. The system is capable of adapting to various medical procedures, as well as various patient attitudes and knowledge bases, while still maintaining a level of consistency throughout. In one embodiment, a minimum probability of understanding may be preset, and the training procedure will continue until the actual statistical probability of understanding is at least equal to the preset minimum.

Abstract: A process for tracking skilled-service rendered a patient by a provider at a treatment location including: generating, at the treatment location, at least one record of progress made toward each treatment goal identified for the patient and addressed by the provider during a session; receiving an input comprising each record of progress so generated, for storage as treatment record data at a host location. Data is stored in searchable data fields for access and retrieval upon command. Using the treatment record data and a host processor, a patient report is automatically generated for submitting to an entity selected from the group consisting of a health care facility, a health care provider, an insurer, the patient, an entity authorized to receive records of the patient, and a record-keeping entity for the provider. Each treatment goal identified is preferably based upon an evaluation of the patient's condition.
