  • Patent number: 8185156
Abstract: A wireless device includes a single SIM, plus an application module adapted to enable the device to operate as though it included two or more different SIMs. The module, referred to as a ‘proprietary applications module’ (PAM) is connected to, or built into, a wireless device (WD). The PAM is capable of switching all incoming traffic by associating the WD to one specific subscriber identity sub-module, referred to as “Local SIM” (LS). It can also switch or re-route all outgoing traffic by associating the same WD with a different subscriber identity sub-module, typically a “Roaming SIM” (RS). In a preferred embodiment, the PAM, RS and LS are built-into a single SIM for use in a WD; alternatively the PAM is built-into a WD and the RS and LS are built-into the single SIM.

  • Patent number: 8175103
Abstract: The invention is directed to the use of Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB) technology with Shortest Path Bridging, also called Provider Link State Bridging (PLSB) technology in the context of data centers and virtualized physical servers infrastructures. Virtual servers can be located anywhere inside the data center, or across different data centers, and still act as though they are physically adjacent and share the same Ethernet connectivity. Ethernet virtual machine VLan memberships are mapped to PBB Service Identifiers (I-SIDs). PBB I-SIDs extend the connectivity model to every Ethernet switches in the local, metropolitan or wide area networks. PLSB complements the connectivity by providing dynamic distribution and mapping of I-SID endpoints in the PBB domain. Virtual servers can then be added, removed or transferred to another point in the network and PLSB adjusts the VLan/I-SID specific connectivity pattern to match the physical distribution of the servers.

  • Patent number: 8174744
Abstract: The invention relates to video holograms and devices for reconstructing video holograms, comprising an optical system having a light source, lens and the video hologram having cells arranged in a matrix or a regular pattern with at least one opening per cell, the phase or amplitude of said opening being controllable. The holographic video representations of expanded spatial objects can be achieved in a wide viewing area in real time using controllable displays, whereby the objects are either computer-generated or created by different means. The space-bandwidth product (SBP) of the hologram is thus reduced to a minimum and the periodicity interval of the Fourier spectrum is used as a viewing window on the inverse transformation plane, through which the object is visible in the preceding space. The mobility of the viewer(s) is achieved by tracking the viewing window.

  • Patent number: 8169682
Abstract: A light modulator is disclosed for representing complex-valued data, comprising an encoding area that has an arrangement of pixels, the phase of which can be controlled. This largely avoids an interfering optical path difference between adjacent pixels or pixel groups when a complex value is encoded in several adjacent phase pixels of the encoding area, the optical path difference varying according to the angle. One respective specific structured delaying layer, which causes the optical path of an incident linearly polarized beam to change according to the angle, is associated with at least one predefined pixel of a group of adjacent pixels of the encoding area. The thickness of the delaying layer is designed such that the modification of the optical path caused by the delaying layer runs in the opposite direction from the angle-related modification of the optical path difference between individual pixels of the pixel group.

  • Patent number: 8156075
Abstract: Network operators can control how data replication services use available bandwidth, in order to make the most efficient usage of that bandwidth, using parameters applied to a data object to be replicated. The parameters may be both time dependent and also relate to how urgently that object needs to be replicated. A change log lists all objects at the device and/or server to be replicated and the parameters then comprise a weight associated with each object that defines how urgently that object needs to be replicated; the weight of each object is then locally compared to a threshold at a given time and the outcome of the comparison determines whether the object is sent for replication or not at that time. This combination of weight and threshold gives a flexible way to control the timing of data replication and hence make the best use of bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 8154781
Abstract: A holographic display device comprises a first OLED array writing onto a first OASLM, the first OLED array and the first OASLM forming adjacent layers, and a second OLED array writing onto a second OASLM, the second OLED array and the second OASLM forming adjacent layers. The first and the second OASLMs encode a hologram and a holographic reconstruction is generated by the device when an array of read beams illuminates the first and second OASLMs and the first and second OASLMs are suitably controlled by the first and second OLED arrays. Advantages include that this device permits independent control of phase and amplitude, and the device lends itself to compactness.

  • Patent number: 8149266
Abstract: The invention relates to a holographic reconstruction system for the reconstruction of scenes having at least one video hologram modulated wave front, and an enlarged visibility region. The system utilizes two-dimensional coded light modulator cells of spatial light modulation means and optical focusing means, which realize a Fourier transformation of the modulated wave front in their focal plane. First optical deflection means deflect the parallel disposed partial light waves such that their Fourier transformations appear as cascading in the focal plane. A spatial frequency filter located on the focal plane, lets each of the same diffraction orders of all modulated partial light waves pass, and second optical deflection means arrange the wave front strips next to each other at the modulated wave front, which reconstructs the scene.

  • Patent number: 8069078
Abstract: A method of obtaining a representative online polling sample is disclosed. The first step is to provide a polling web site with polling information for a user to select or otherwise interact with. However, that polling web site has a domain name that differs from the domain name of a web site the user intends to reach, the polling web site being reached when the user makes a typing or other address input error and inadvertently enters the polling web site domain name. Hence, for example, Google could harvest the many thousands of users who inadvertently type in gogle.com instead of google.com and direct them to an online polling page, instead of simply redirecting them to the google.com web site. This approach substantially eliminates coverage bias from the sample.

  • Patent number: 8051109
Abstract: Document classification systems are valuable tools for searching and retrieving classified documents but can be prohibitively complex and cumbersome for users. A system for the indexing and retrieval of classified documents inserts keywords, titles or definitions of previously applied classifications into the document record and provides the resulting record to a search engine. Searchers are able to retrieve documents by searching on keywords from the classification system without looking up class coding.
