Abstract: To compensate for an inhomogeneous brightness perception in a holographic reconstruction of 3D-scenes (4), a computing means encodes modulator cells of a SLM with a hologram point data pattern. Multiple bundles of rays illuminate the surface of the SLM and an array of focusing elements (21, 23) directs the bundles of rays to an observer's eye positions. Geometrical and optical properties of the array cause dissimilarly affected illumination regions on the SLM surface. The computing means determine parameters which describe the extent of these effects in combination with an expected spatial filtering at the eye pupil of the observer's eyes. Using these parameters, the computing means estimates which local errors of the reconstruction caused by these dissimilarly affected illumination regions will be perceived by the observer when watching the reconstruction, and corrects the hologram point data pattern such that the reconstruction appears at a corrected brightness uniformity level.
Abstract: The shoe accessory includes a platform for supporting a conventional shoe that is bendable in a manner corresponding to bending of a wearer's show during walking, etc. The shoe accessory's base has a convex or other non-planar surface that causes the shoe accessory to be stable in a longitudinal (heel-toe) direction, and unstable in a lateral (medial/lateral) direction. The non-planar surface may be defined by one or more ridge segments on the platform's bottom side. One or more straps are provided to temporarily secure the wearer's conventional shoe to the platform in a non-destructive manner. A generally U-shaped heel retainer may be provided adjacent a rear portion of the platform for receiving the heel of the shoe. The shoe accessory makes a flat-soled shoe laterally unstable while allowing for longitudinal stability and a naturalistic gait, and thus facilitates exercise of leg and foot muscles during normal walking, running, etc.

Abstract: A video holographic display device operates so that the size of a reconstructed three dimensional scene is a function of the size of the hologram-bearing medium; the reconstructed three dimensional scene can then be anywhere within a volume defined by the hologram-bearing medium and a virtual observer window through which the reconstructed three dimensional scene must be viewed. This contrasts with conventional holograms, in which the size of the reconstructed scene is localised to a far smaller volume and is not a function of the size of the hologram-bearing medium at all.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for crystallizing a semiconductor that includes a first layer having a first crystal lattice orientation and a second layer having a second crystal lattice orientation, comprising amorphizing at least a portion of the second layer, applying a stress to the second layer and heating the second layer above a recrystallization temperature.
Abstract: The system provides new ways to ensure that a patient is positioned correctly, e.g. identically with an original planning scan if the patient is to undergo radiotherapy. The system also detects if there is patient movement during a scan. It is an aspect of the present method to immobilize the patient based on a specific site of interest by using positioning sensors that record patient physical orientation based on measurements of patient weight distribution and pressure distribution among other features.
Abstract: A communication system that controls the disabling and enabling of a communication function in a communication portion of a portable device in accordance with whether the communication function of the portable device is disabled or enabled. The communication system includes a selection device for selecting a disablement mode, which disables automatic communication of the portable device with respect to a communication controller, and a communication mode, which enables automatic communication of the portable device. A determination unit recognizes which one of the disablement mode and the communication mode the portable device is in to determine whether to enable or disable automatic communication with respect to the portable device in accordance with the recognition. A recognition information providing device provides the determination unit with recognition information used to recognize which one of the disablement mode and the communication mode the portable device is in.
Abstract: A method and system for analyzing an organization's investment in human capital resources is provided to assist in improving the organization's overall financial performance. The method includes receiving inputted data retrieved from common accounting records regularly maintained in connection with operation of the organization. Further, the present invention provides a novel approach particularly relevant for precise analysis of people-intensive organizations, such as service-providing organizations. The approach involves calculation of values for newly defined HCP, ROHS and PS metrics. Aggregation of the metric values into a single index value metric facilitates benchmarking of an organization against itself and others. A report is provided that identifies factors most responsible for influencing the overall index, which assists the organization's management in determining how to implement change in the organization that will improve the metrics and thus the overall profitability of the organization.

Abstract: The data defining an object to be holographically reconstructed is first arranged into a number of virtual section layers, each layer defining a two-dimensional object data sets, such that a video hologram data set can be calculated from some or all of these two-dimensional object data sets. The first step is to transform each two-dimensional object data set to a two-dimensional wave field distribution. This wave field distribution is calculated for a virtual observer window in a reference layer at a finite distance from the video hologram layer. Next, the calculated two-dimensional wave field distributions for the virtual observer window, for all two-dimensional object data sets of section layers, are added to define an aggregated observer window data set. Then, the aggregated observer window data set is transformed from the reference layer to the video hologram layer, to generate the video hologram data set for the computer-generated video hologram.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the preparation of 3-hydroxyamidino-phenylalanine derivatives in highly pure form which can be used for example as urokinase inhibitors. The present invention further relates to the use of high-purity 3-hydroxyamidinophenylalanine derivatives for preparing 3-amidinophenylalanine derivatives.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a circuit arrangement for recognising and for tracking, in a contact-free manner, eye positions of several users in real time. The input data comprises a sequence of digital video frames. Said method comprises the following steps: combining a face-finder-instance which is used to examine faces, an eye-finder-instance which is used to examine eye areas, and an eye-tracker-instance which is used to recognise and track eye reference points. The aim of the invention is to convert the eye positions within a hierarchical outlet of the instance to the target, which successively restricts the dataset, which is to be processed, emerging from the dataset of the entire video frame (VF) in order to form a face target area (GZ) and subsequently an eye target area (AZ). Also, an instance or a group of instances, which run in a parallel manner, are carried out, respectively, on a calculating unit thereof.
Abstract: A technique for the deployment of data mining algorithms on a web service, such as IBM's WebSphere Application Server, is disclosed. Rather than having to deploy the data mining models with the data, the data can be transported to the web server as part of a message. Models can be cached on the web server and easily changed by operations executed by the client. This allows for efficient administration of the operational environment. Because a web services environment is inherently scalable, servers can be transparently enabled based on demand. Further, with web services communication is via data objects in memory which allows for ease of implementation and operational efficiency.

Abstract: A geometrical method for working out how to encode a hologram onto a hologram bearing medium is disclosed. The method involves (a) selecting a point on the three dimensional scene to be reconstructed; then (b) defining a virtual observer window through which the reconstructed three dimensional scene will be seen; then (c) tracing a pyramid from the edges of the observer window through the point and onto a region that forms only a portion of a hologram bearing medium; and finally (d) generating, solely in that region of the hologram-bearing medium, holographic information needed to generate a holographic reconstruction of the point.
Abstract: A method of routing data from a source to one or more clients over a network, where the data conforms to a structured meta-language; in which the routing is performed by a server applying rules to the data itself, and not any address accompanying the data, to determine where to route that data to. The present invention is predicated on the counter-intuitive insight that data does not need to be concealed within a data envelope and given an address label in order to be routed effectively and efficiently. Instead, routing can be performed on the actual content of a message by applying simple routing rules to the data itself by intelligent ‘routing’ servers within the network which can unpack data from their message envelopes and intelligently filter/combine them with data unpacked from other messages to achieve a routing function.
Abstract: In a video hologram that enables a three dimensional scene to be reconstructed, a specific region in the hologram encodes information for a particular, single point in the reconstructed scene. This region is the only region in the hologram encoded with information for that point, and is restricted in size to form a portion of the entire hologram, the size being such that multiple reconstructions of that point caused by higher diffraction orders are not visible at the defined viewing position. This contrasts with conventional holograms, in which the information needed to reconstruct a given point is distributed across the entire hologram.
Abstract: A steering lock apparatus for locking a steering shaft of a vehicle. The steering lock apparatus includes a motor and a lock assembly that is moved by the motor. The lock assembly includes a lock bar that moves between a lock position at which the lock bar is engaged with the steering shaft and an unlock position at which the lock bar is disengaged from the steering shaft. A magnet receptacle portion is arranged on the lock assembly. A magnet is attached to the magnet receptacle portion and moved integrally with the lock assembly. A magnetic field detection element detects a present position of the lock assembly based on a magnetic field of the magnet. The magnet is magnetically held and positioned in the magnet receptacle portion by magnetic attraction force produced between the magnet and a part of the lock assembly.
