  • Patent number: 5657607
Abstract: A thermally insulating glass panel comprises two spaced apart sheets of glass enclosing a low pressure space and interconnected by a peripheral joint of fused solder glass and an array of support pillars, and a pump-out tube used to provide communication between the low pressure space and the exterior of the panel during the creation of the low pressure space. The support pillars each comprise a preformed core of a selected geometry and a selected material and a coating of solder glass at least in the areas between the preformed core and the sheet glass. Preferably the preformed core is spherically shaped and completely coated by solder glass. The preformed core serves to separate the glass sheets during the heating process of the panel's fabrication when the solder glass is in its molten state, and the solder glass serves as a mechanical joint to support the glass sheets after solidification.

  • Patent number: 5653326
Abstract: A conveyor system for transferring yarn packages or other yarn packages from one conveyor belt to another downstream located conveyor belt traveling in the same conveying direction and at the same speed. The conveyor belts are guided on support structures which are embodied as lateral guide elements which are height-adjustable in a selected area. The lateral guide elements are connected by a linkage such that, when the inward guide elements are lowered, the outward guide elements are simultaneously raised, thereby to cause yarn packages to gravitationally roll from the first belt to the other belt.

  • Patent number: 5651507
Abstract: A yarn splicing device for textile winding machines comprises a splicer mechanism for pneumatically joining yarn ends, upper and lower clamping and cutting devices, and suction-actuated yarn placement devices for placing the yarn ends to be spliced. According to the invention, one yarn placement device is a gripper tube normally parked in a zero position upstream of the yarn travel. The gripper tube has a spring-biased, pivotable gripping flap and a yarn placement hook for simultaneously placing both the lower yarn and the upper yarn to be spliced. For that purpose, one of the gripper tube and gripper tube flap carries the yarn placement hook forwardly for manipulating the upper yarn and a yarn guide disposed between the yarn placement hook and the pivot axis of the flap for placing the lower yarn.

  • Patent number: 5646465
Abstract: In a shaftless spinning rotor assembly wherein the spinning rotor is the rotor of an axial field motor, an improved transfer of power and improved running properties are attained by forming the stator windings in channels which extend substantially radially in the stator core and are enclosed over at least a portion of their length by magnetically conducting material. As compared with known gap windings, the windings can be placed in multiple layers while at the same time avoiding marked graduations in permeance and in the specific current density so that eddy currents in the rotor can in turn be reduced and rotor heating remains within reasonable limits. The stator is preferably formed of multiple component parts which allows optimized selections of materials.

  • Patent number: 5642548
Abstract: In a textile wet processing machine and process wherein an indeterminate length of a textile fabric or other material is washed or otherwise subjected to a wet treatment operation by transportation sequentially through a plurality of processing chambers, the yardage distribution of the fabric among the chambers is controlled by sensing the entrance of the leading end of the fabric into each successive chamber, then measuring separately the actual yardage of fabric entering each chamber in sequence, comparing at least periodically the yardage of fabric instantaneously residing within each respective chamber and, in the event an imbalance in fabric distribution is detected, briefly stopping and then restarting lifter reel assemblies and jet nozzle assemblies by which the fabric is transported so as to correct the imbalance in fabric distribution.

  • Patent number: 5641281
Abstract: An improved self-lubricating bearing arrangement for gear pumps utilizes a system of material feed channels and reservoir pockets to divert a portion of the material being pumped from the pressure side of the intermeshing gears to lubricate the gear-supporting shafts within the bearing arrangement. At each gear shaft, a linear material feed channel is formed in the radial face of the bearing between a pressure relief recess and an axial opening supporting the shaft and a parabolic reservoir pocket is formed within the bearing opening adjacent the shaft to apply diverted polymer to the shaft. Each material feed channel and reservoir pocket is polished to a mirror finish to minimize any tendency of suspended additives in the polymer from adhering to or collecting within the channels or pockets, thereby to prevent unusual or localized wearing of the gear shafts.
