  • Patent number: 4878324
Abstract: The present invention pertains to building blocks, especially for erecting shielding walls in nuclear facilities. Each building block is made of a cubeshaped metal jacket consisting of steel plate, especially special steel, which jacket is closed on all sides and is filled with concrete. To facilitate the handling and to permit the erection of shielding walls with building blocks in fixed positions, the top surfaces and the bottom surfaces (2, 4) of the jacket (1) are provided with bulging formations in the form of projections (3) and depressions (4) [sic, (5)] which engage with each other between adjacent building blocks to mutually fix the positions of the building blocks.

  • Patent number: 4878528
Abstract: Herein disclosed is an electric blind of the type, in which a traverse rod drive motor, a tilt rod drive motor and their drive transmitting means are arranged at one end side of a casing frame so that the casing frame can be easily cut at the other end side without removing those motors and the drive transmitting means to leave a new casing from of a desired length. The traverse rod and the tilt rod can be cut together with the casing frame to improve the workability of the electric blind. This blind has its slats offset from the center line of the casing frame so that a shield cover can be extended to below the casing frame to prevent the light from breaking therethrough. In this blind, moreover, the positions of the clamping portions of brackets for supporting the two sides of the casing frame can be adjusted independently of one another so that the blind can be mounted on the wall or the like without any difficulty.

  • Patent number: 4875570
Abstract: Apparatus for transferring a lithographic plate (S) from a horizontal conveyor (10) to an overhead conveyor (14) comprises has an elevator (19) in the form of a pair of endless chains (20) travelling around an endless vertical path. The chains (20) carry opposed hooks (22) for engaging a folded end portion (S1) of a lithographic plate and supporting the plate therebetween as the chain conveys the plate to a plate bed (24) on which the plate is deposited and which presents the plates to the overhead conveyor. Guide rails (23) are provided for guiding the hooks apart as the plate is deposited on the plate bed. A pair of elevators (19) may be provided to supply the lithographic plate to either one of a pair of overhead conveyors (14) depending upon the orientation with which the plate is supplied to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4874077
Abstract: A device is provided for transferring a lithographic plate (S) from a horizontal conveyor (1) to an overhead conveyor (25). The transfer device has orienting means (2) for receiving a transversely extending lithographic plate from the horizontal conveyor (1) and positioning a folded over end portion (12) of the lithographic plate in the path of a hook member (13) carried by an endless chain (30) of an elevator (3), so that the plate (S) is lifted into a vertical position and then deposited on a positioning bed (4). An upper part (23) of the bed (4) is pivotable by a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder (22) to position the end portion (12) of the plate (S) inwardly of the locus of the hook member (13) as the hook member passes around a lower sprocket wheel (15) of the elevator, so that the hook member passes by without again picking up the lithographic plate.

  • Patent number: 4873207
Abstract: A ceramic aggregate for concrete is made from a mixture of clay and dried organic garbage in a ratio of about three parts by volume of organic garbage to about one part by volume clay. The mixture is shaped into pancake-shaped pellets and fired at a temperature in excess of the vitrification point of the clay to cause the surface of the pellets to melt and harden the pellets.

  • Patent number: 4873710
Abstract: A patient support includes a support surface and structure positioned about the support surface for lifting selected portions of the patient's body from the support surface so as to permit the insertion of an x-ray cassette beneath the selected portion of the patient's body. The structure for lifting preferably includes a plurality of inflatable runners. Structure for placing the inflatable runners in fluid connection with fluid supply means is provided such that the runners can be inflated. The runners are spaced apart from one another and adapted when inflated to lift an adjacent portion of the patient so as to permit the insertion of an x-ray cassette between adjacent runners and beneath the patient.

  • Patent number: 4871092
Abstract: A dispensing pump means has an operating pusher for effecting a pump stroke and a control means for selectively varying the length of stroke. The control includes a neck on a base for receiving the operating pusher, cooperating grooves and abutment shoulders guiding the pusher and setting its maximum stroke. At least one projection positively slides in a selected one of a plurality of grooves of different lengths, the projection being positioned out of the grooves and in front of the ends of the grooves in an initial position of the pump, i.e., prior to the pump stroke. Axially preceding the ends of the grooves, an arched path extends around the pump axis and guides the projection during manual rotation of the operation pusher as the projection is positioned over the selected groove.

  • Patent number: 4871087
Abstract: In one embodiment, the container/dispenser for an ultra high purity chemical includes a thin walled inner container made of TEFLON polymer. The thin walled inner container is closed at the top by an inner container lid. An outer container surrounds the inner container and comprises a metal outer wall that is interiorly covered or lined with TEFLON polymer or other polymeric material. The outer container is closed at the top by an outer container lid. The inner container is separated from the outer container by a spacer assembly that spaces the side and bottom walls of the inner thin walled container away from the inteiror surface of the outer container. An inert gas is disposed in the interspace between the inner and outer container and a set of valves are mounted on the inner and outer container lids. One valve allows an inert gas to be bubbled through the ultra high purity chemical while another valve dispenses the "bubbled" chemical.

  • Patent number: 4871207
Abstract: A coach seat locking mechanism is disclosed which is compatible for use with existing revolving type coach seats. A metallic body having a vertical bore is affixed to one end of the seat lower frame and a locking rod is vertically reciprocal within the bore between an upper, locking position and a lower, unlocked position. A pedal arm having a cam is pivotally affixed to the body and is designed for foot operation form an upper, locking position to a lower, unlocked position. Upon depressing the pedal arm, the locking rod is lowered to its unlocked position and simultaneously, the pedal cam contacts a body affixed extraction arm to transversely move the seat upper frame away from the coach sidewall. A detent is pivotally secured to the body to maintain the pedal arm in its unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 4871902
Abstract: In an electric hotplate (1b), the connecting portions (19b) for the connection of appliance lines (34) provided on the underside thereof can be transferred about articulations, namely bendable or pivotable joints or hinges, e.g. in the form of springs (71) into a transportation and fitting position, in which they are completely countersunk in the underside of the hotplate and also do not project over the outer circumference thereof. The connecting portions (19b) can be transferred from this transportation and fitting position into a connecting position projecting both above the outer circumference and above the underside of hotplate (1b), in which they can be connected in a simple manner with a connecting piece (31) of the appliance lines (34). This ensures both an equiaxial automated stacking of the hotplates and an automated fitting of the hotplate in a hob or the like in simple manner.

  • Patent number: 4871914
Abstract: A low-cost radon detector using a solid state diode having a depletion layer disposed close enough to a test medium that alpha particles deposit their energy in the depletion layer. The signal produced by the diode is amplified and pulses are discriminated for levels over a threshold typical of pulse levels produced by radioactive decay of radon daughters on the surface of the sensor. More than one amplifier and threshold detector are provided, and the sensor can have plural solid state diodes. Pulses occurring exclusively on one channel are counted and pulses occurring in coincidence on more than one channel are ignored as instances of transient disturbance. A conductive enclosure around the sensor element can be biased to force radon daughter ions to plate out the sensor, whereupon decay of the daughters produces pulses falling closely into pulse height ranges well above the noise threshold. Pulse counts and time lapse are monitored both long term and short term.
