  • Patent number: 4265108
Abstract: A pneumatically powered hand-held torque wrench having a dial gage arranged on the handle portion of the wrench to display the amount of torque exerted upon a fastener by the tool. A pointer indicates the tool maximum torque attained during tool operation, including manual torquing effort by the tool operator, which pointer maintains maximum torque read-out until the pointer is reset by the operator. A mechanical linkage arrangement transmits tool handle flexure into rotation of the dial gage to indicate maximum torque value developed upon a fastener being worked upon.

  • Patent number: 4244245
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling final tension on a fastener being run up and set. An efficiency factor is developed and utilized for attaining predetermined final tension on a fastener, or a group of similar fasteners, being operated upon. The efficiency factor is a ratio between work on a theoretical fastener, i.e., one wherein friction load is absent in work calculations, and work on an actual fastener. Having obtained the efficiency factor, the actual torque load on a fastener to attain predetermined tension value, can be established by use of the efficiency factor.

  • Patent number: 4227867
Abstract: An air compressor of the globoid-worm type having a rotor formed with a plurality of threads in meshing relation with two oppositely arranged star pinions. The rotor and star pinions are arranged in a single piece housing which incorporates all openings as required for assemblage and operation of the functional elements of the compressor. The rotor has an integral shaft which projects from the housing. A cover encloses an end of the housing and is provided with outlet passages for the air compressed in the housing. Oil injection openings are arranged in the housing for application of lubricant to the rotor for sealing and cooling purposes.

  • Patent number: 4147219
Abstract: A two-speed pneumatically powered rotary nut runner having an auxiliary motor, and a main motor axially offset from the auxiliary motor and being drivingly connected thereto by a reduction gear cage. An output spindle is provided for engagement with a drive shank for setting of a threaded fastener, and an intermediate spindle, drivingly connected to the auxiliary motor, is coupled to the output spindle by planetary gears. A torque signal assembly is operatively associated with the main motor and is operative upon reverse rotation of the main motor to generate a pneumatic signal indicative of such reverse rotation. Reverse rotation of the main motor is caused by the auxiliary motor when it has exerted predetermined final torque upon the threaded fastener. The fact that the main motor is axially offset from the auxiliary motor, allows the rotor of the main motor to be of smaller diameter.

  • Patent number: 4092864
Abstract: A thermometer unit for monitoring the temperature of a fluid cooled electric transformer, the unit having a ceramic body insertable between the coils of the transformer winding immersed in cooling fluid in the transformer case. A nylon element responsive to heat changes is confined in the interior of the body and is adapted to expand according to developing heat changes. A flexible tubing having a loop portion fronting a tapered end of the nylon element is filled with a fluid which is caused to oscillate in the tubing accordingly as a rocker arm alternate actuates a pair of associated bellows. As the nylon element expands in response to a temperature rise, it squeezes the tubing causing a load to be placed upon the rocker arm which is indicative of the corresponding temperature change.

  • Patent number: 4084487
Abstract: A non-impacting nut running pneumatic tool in which torque pulses are transmitted by an oscillating air motor through a one-way clutch and reduction gearing to the work. A torque responsive cam clutch member responds to a predetermined delivered torque to cause stalling of the motor by blocking off escape of exhaust air and to cause discontinuance of further torque transmission to the work by disabling the drive connection. Manually operable adjusting means is provided to regulate the value of torque delivered.
