Abstract: An improved system and approaches for protecting secured files when being used by an application (e.g., network browser) that potentially transmits the files over a network to unknown external locations are disclosed. According to one aspect, access to secured files is restricted so that unsecured versions of the secured files are not able to be transmitted over a network (e.g., the Internet) to unauthorized destinations. In one embodiment, processes operating on a computer system are monitored to determine destination locations, if any, of said processes, and then using such destination locations to determine whether to permit the processes to open files in a secure or unsecured manner.
Abstract: Methods and systems for using algorithms in relational database management systems (RDBMSs) for incremental maintenance of materialized views with outerjoins are disclosed. The algorithms achieve the following goals with respect to a class of materialized outerjoin views and the performance of update operations: relax the requirement for the existence of the primary key attributes in a select list of the view to only some of the relations (i.e., the relations referenced as a preserved side in an outerjoin); relax null-intolerant property requirements for some predicates used in the view definition (i.e., predicates referencing relations which can be null-supplied by more than one outerjoin); and implement maintenance of outerjoin views by using one update statement (e.g., MERGE, UPDATE, INSERT, or DELETE) per view for each relation referenced in the view. The algorithms allow design and implementation of the incremental maintenance of materialized views with outerjoins to be integrated into an RDBMS.
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for decoding single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) and redundancy processing adaptation using burst process are provided. A wireless receiver may decode bit sequences based on a first decoding algorithm that may utilize redundancy in the data and that may impose physical constraints. The receiver may also decode a received bit sequence based on a second decoding algorithm that utilizes SAIC. Received data may be processed in a burst process portion in either decoding algorithm. Burst processed data from one of the decoding algorithms may be selected based on signal-to-noise ratio and/or received signal level measurements. The selected burst processed data may be communicated to a frame processing portion of the corresponding decoding algorithm.

Abstract: A system is disposed at a location of a utility commodity subscriber for informing the subscriber of and controlling utility commodity usage. The system includes utility meters, an information and control apparatus, and a first and second data communication link. The meters measure usage and generate usage signals. The information and control apparatus includes a microprocessor, a memory, a clock, and a user interface. The first data communication link is between the utility meters and the information and control apparatus, and the second data communication link is between the information and control apparatus and one or more central locations. The second communication link also provides rate information to the information and control apparatus and utility commodity usage data to the one or more central locations. The microprocessor computes an accumulated cost of utility commodity for a predetermined period of time. Information related to the accumulated cost is output to the subscriber.

Abstract: A method and system for advanced media access control delegated from a host device, such as a WiFi device, to a smart wireless communications module. In an embodiment, the host signals to the wireless module a list of one or more preferred networks. The wireless module offloads from the host the processing required to scan for the preferred network(s), as well as possibly other management tasks. The wireless communications module may automatically reassign the network connection from an existing network to a preferred network, or may report to the host when a preferred network is discovered. In either case, the wireless communications module may monitor the wireless environment, and scan for preferred networks, in parallel with maintaining an existing connection. The method and system allows rapid adaptation to a changing network environment, and enables lower system power consumption by distributing management functions between the host and the lower-powered wireless communications module.
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for communication are provided. In this regard, a femtocell may receive messages from a plurality of different sources comprising one or more other femtocells, one or more cellular enabled communication devices, and one or more non-cellular network nodes. The femtocell may select, based on the received messages, a master clock within one of the plurality of different sources as a master clock for synchronization of the plurality of different sources. A femtocell clock, a global navigational satellite signal (GNSS) clock, a cellular base station clock, or a cellular enabled communication device clock may be selected as the master clock. The femtocell may transmit and/or receive synchronization messages to and/or from the one or more cellular enabled communication devices and the one or more non-cellular network nodes.

Abstract: A method for processing a plurality of signals may include amplifying an input signal and generating a wideband signal from the amplified input signal. The method may further include bandpass filtering the generated wideband signal to generate a narrowband signal, and adjusting amplification of the input signal based on a narrowband received signal strength indication of the generated narrowband signal, and/or a wideband received signal strength indication of the generated wideband signal. The amplified input signal may be downconverted to generate the wideband signal. The amplified input signal may be downconverted to an intermediate frequency (IF) and/or to a baseband signal to generate the wideband signal. At least one blocker signal may be bandpass filtered from the amplified input signal.

Abstract: The present invention relates to navigating in a geographic information system. In an embodiment, a method tours geographic information in a geographic information system. A set of actions for a tour is received. Each action includes a tour time. A tour time of at least one of the actions is defined by a user. Each action in the set of actions is executed to tour geographic information in the geographic information system.
Abstract: The present invention relates to transferring files between browsers and other browsers or peer-to-peer (P2P) clients. In an embodiment, a system for transferring files includes a first browser and a second browser. The system may have a first client coupled to the first browser and a second client coupled to the second browser. The system may have a relay server coupled to the first and second clients configured to receive data from the first client, send the data to the second client, and send an acknowledgement to the first client upon completion.
Abstract: A memory cell for reducing the cost and complexity of modifying a revision identifier (ID) or default register values associated with an integrated circuit (IC) chip, and a method for manufacturing the same. The cell, which may be termed a “Meta-Memory Cell” (MMCEL), is implemented on metal layers only and utilizes a dual parallel metal ladder structure that traverses and covers each metal and via layer from the bottom to the top of the metal layer structure of the chip. One of the metal ladders is connected to a power supply at the bottom metal layer, corresponding to a logic 1, and another metal ladder is connected to ground at the bottom metal layer, corresponding to a logic 0. The output of the MMCEL can thus be inverted at any metal or via layer and can be inverted as often as required. Significant cost savings are achieved because a revision ID or default register bits may be modified by altering only those metal layers where design changes are necessary.
