Patent number: 7412881Abstract: A method and apparatus are useful for determining the flowrate of fluid flowing within a passage. The method comprises the step of measuring the equilibrium temperature of a location of interest within or proximate to the passage within which fluid flows. The temperature of the location of interest is perturbed to a second temperature, and the temperature of the location of interest is then allowed to return to its equilibrium temperature. The temperature of the location of interest is monitored as it transitions between the second temperature and the equilibrium temperature. The monitored temperature transition is then used to determine the flowrate of the fluid flowing within the passage.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2006Date of Patent: August 19, 2008Assignee: Chevron U.S.A. Patent number: 6821660Abstract: A method and apparatus for the humidification of gas streams, such as reactant gas streams for fuel cells, wherein the specific water evaporation rate, gas delivery temperature, and degree of gas humidity may be adjusted and maintained at predetermined levels. An ultrasonic device providing a water mist is used in the evaporation process. The amount of water vapor being introduced into the gas stream can be varied up to the saturation point of the reactant gas stream. As the water vapor leaves the evaporation chamber, it mixes with the gas stream in a gas humidification chamber or riser. The humidified reactant gas stream is then maintained at a set point temperature that is at least above the dew point temperature of the humidified reactant gas.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2001Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Assignee: Fideris, Inc.Inventors: Craig Andrews, Mark J. Patent number: 6810975Abstract: A suspension system for a tracked vehicle, preferably having rubber tracks. The track assembly is mounted on a pivot shaft such that it can oscillate about the axis of the pivot shaft. The suspension system allows the track assembly to move vertically relative to the vehicle chassis to compensate for uneven terrain. For instance the track assembly can compensate for depressions or bumps in the terrain and preclude the chassis of the vehicle from tilting with each minor change in the terrain. In addition, the track assembly movement in the vertical direction provides a much smoother ride than do traditional tracked vehicles. The suspension system of the present invention is provided for use with a pair of track assemblies.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2002Date of Patent: November 2, 2004Assignee: WesternGaco A.S.Inventors: James A. Patent number: 6480440Abstract: A method of compensating for seismic receiver motion in a marine seismic survey wherein at least one receiver is towed behind a moving seismic vessel comprises producing an acoustic energy wave at a seismic source, and recording the reflection arrival time t2 of the acoustic energy wave at the one receiver. The offset x between the source and the one receiver is determined. The normal moveout velocity V for the acoustic energy, and the velocity VB of the seismic vessel are also estimated. A corrected reflection arrival time t1 , of the acoustic energy wave is then determined by applying a time correction to the recorded reflection arrival time t2. The time correction is a function of the offset x, the normal moveout velocity V, and the velocity VB of the seismic vessel. The method is applicable to a plurality of receivers, whether the receivers are arranged in a single sensor acquisition system or hardwired to form receiver groups.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2001Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Westerngeco, L.L.C.Inventors: Jan Douma, William H. Patent number: 6343507Abstract: The present invention provides a method for improving the quality of a formation fluid sample by taking the sample at a time when the formation fluid composition contains the most favorable portion of hydrocarbons. This task is accomplished by determining in real-time, the composition of the fluid flowing into a downhole tool from the formation. This method determines the optical density of the fluid as the fluid flows through the tool. An optical density spectrum is generated from the optical density measurement. The optical density spectrum is compared to a composite optical density spectrum generated from a database of known fluid samples. As a result of the comparisons, there is a determination of the derivations between corresponding features of the two spectra. Adjustments are made to the components of the composite spectrum until the deviations between the two spectra are at an acceptable minimum.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1999Date of Patent: February 5, 2002Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Michelle M. Patent number: 6267185Abstract: Apparatus and methods are utilized for controlling downhole equipment attached to a drill string by the transmission of commands from the surface of the earth. The drill string is rotated at the surface of the earth sequentially through one or more discrete angles of rotation to generate a command code. The sequence of discrete angular rotations is sensed downhole by a gyroscope and decoded as a command in a microprocessor. Alternately, a command code is transmitted by sequentially rotating the drill string at different angular rates which are likewise sensed by the gyroscope and decoded in the microprocessor. The microprocessor then transmits the decoded command to the controlled equipment.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1999Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Bernard Mougel, Remi Hutin
