Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a distortion correction unit, a distortion correction range calculation unit, a control unit, a storage control unit, and a margin storage memory. The distortion correction unit performs a distortion correction processing on image data stored in a frame memory. The distortion correction range calculation unit calculates distortion correction ranges. The control unit determines an input image range from present distortion correction range and next distortion correction range. The storage control unit calculates a range for a part of the image data corresponding to the input image range from the present distortion correction range and the next distortion correction range. The margin storage memory stores the image data of the range calculated by the storage control unit. The image data input to the distortion correction unit includes both the image data from the frame memory and the image data from the margin storage memory.

Abstract: A multi-image file includes one representative main image data and one or more sub-image data other than the main image data in one file. Each of the image data is provided with a header area. When dividing the multi-image file into individual image files, related information indicative of a relationship between the main image data and the one or more sub-image data is recorded in the header area of the main image data and in the header area of each of the one or more sub-image data. The related information is necessary for reconstructing the multi-image file from a plurality of divided image data and includes, for example, a total number of the sub-images, an image identification number, main image file identification information, an image type, and the like.
Abstract: An image recording apparatus includes an imaging section which images a subject to obtain imaging data. An image quality information acquiring section acquires a plurality of sets of information concerning image quality. An image quality information converting section converts the plurality of sets of information concerning the image quality acquired in the image quality information acquiring section into image processing parameters used in image processing of the imaging data. An image processing section performs image processing with respect to the imaging data based on the image processing parameters converted by the image quality information converting section. A recording section records in a recording medium the imaging data subjected to image processing in the image processing section, or records in the recording medium the imaging data which is not yet subjected to image processing in the image processing section and the plurality of sets of information concerning the image quality.
Abstract: Effective control of communications traffic, even under fast-changing DDoS attacks, might be performed by (a) determining parameters of a leaky bucket using nominal communications traffic, (b) applying current communications traffic to the leaky bucket, (c) observing overflows, if any, of the leaky bucket, (d) scoring the current traffic based on the observed overflows, and (e) passing or dropping traffic based on the score. Alternatively, such control might be performed by (a) determining average mean and variance of each of one or more attribute values of nominal communications traffic, (b) determining a mean of each of the one or more attribute values of current communications traffic, (c) determining a probability that for each of the one or more attributes, its current mean value deviates more from its average mean that its current attribute value, (d) scoring the current traffic based on the determined probability or probabilities, and (e) passing or dropping traffic based on the score.

Abstract: An imaging apparatus of the invention comprises a camera body and a lens unit which can be mounted on and removed from the camera body. The focusing lens of the lens unit is moved along the optical axis. The position of the focusing lens on the optical axis is detected by a position detection section in response to a synchronization signal according to the photographic timing of the imaging device. A second transmission section transmits position data on the focusing lens detected by the position detection section to the camera body.
Abstract: A “wireless cable” (also referred to as a “free-space waveguide”), which does not require a continuous body of conducting wire, is provided. Rather, a series of conducting rings, each loaded with a suitable capacitance element, is properly arranged in an empty medium. The distance between the conducting ring elements is of the order of half the wavelength of the signal to be carried, or less. Normally, the series of ring elements would operate as an antenna array, radiating the signal power away from the structure. However, under suitable design conditions, ideally all the signal power can be directed along an axis of the series of conducting ring elements. A signal source can be connected to the ring element at one end of the series, and a suitable electrical load be connected to the element at the opposite end to collect the guided signal power. Additional matching circuits may be provided to properly couple the source and load to the wireless cable.

Abstract: In an entertainment service providing on-demand programs over a broadband communications network, a user is allowed to view multiple programs in a continuous manner. The user's enjoyment of the entertainment service is enhanced especially when the on-demand programs are short, e.g., on-demand music videos which typically are a few minutes long. The user is provided with graphical user interfaces for selecting the desired programs to watch, and also allowed to determine the order in which the selected programs are to be played, which may be random.
Abstract: A Website may be automatically categorized by (a) accepting Website information, (b) determining a set of scored clusters (e.g., semantic, term co-occurrence, etc.) for the Website using the Website information, and (c) determining at least one category (e.g., a vertical category) of a predefined taxonomy using at least some of the set of clusters.

Abstract: An image editing apparatus includes an image input unit including an image pickup circuit which takes a picture of a subject to obtain an image of a subject. A face detection circuit detects an image of a face of the subject from the image obtained from the image input unit. A face expression detection circuit detects at least any one of direction and expression of the face of the subject, based on the image of the face detected by the face detection circuit. A pupil detection circuit detects images of pupils of the subject, based on the image of the face detected by the face detection circuit. A catch-light composition circuit composes different catch-lights on the images of the pupils detected by the pupil detection circuit, according to any one of the direction and expression of the face detected by the face expression detection circuit.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for binarizing images represented by sets of multivalent pixel values in a computationally efficient manner are described In a grayscale image to be binarized, one group of pixel values represents “foreground”, e.g., text to be converted to black, while another group represents a shaded “background” region to be converted, e.g., to white. The difference between foreground and background is often a function of the scale of the image components, e.g., text and/or other images. Filters in the form of morphological operators, computationally efficient quick-open and quick-close morphological operators are employed to binarize images, e.g., grayscale images. The methods and apparatus effectively handle both smooth and sharp image background structures in a computationally efficient manner.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for using text messages, e.g., SMS messages, to trigger a device update and/or to update a communications device, e.g., cell phone, are described. The cell phone can be updated/programmed from a remote device. The updating can use SMS messages to accomplish the update. An SMS message may include a command and, optionally, other update information in the message body. Received SMS messages are checked to determine if they include an update command. If an update command is present the command is performed after a security check is satisfied. In some but not necessarily all embodiments, a simplified user interface is supported in addition to SMS update features.
