  • Patent number: 6924203
Abstract: A heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) device structure is provided which facilitates the reduction of the base-collector capacitance and a method for making the same. The base-collector capacitance is decreased by fabricating a base micro-bridge connecting a base contact to a base mesa on the HBT. The base micro-bridge is oriented along about one of 001, 010, 00{overscore (1)}, and 0{overscore (1)}0 direction to a major flat of the wafer. The HBT device employs a phosphorous based collector material. During removal of the phosphorous based collector material, the base layer is undercut forming the micro-bridge, successfully removing the collector and sub-collector material below the bridge due to the orientation of the micro-bridge. The removal of collector and sub-collector material reduces the base-collector junction area, and therefore reduce the base-collector junction capacitance.

  • Patent number: 6921107
Abstract: An apparatus (10) for sensing the position of a vehicle seat (12) movable between a forward position and a rearward position includes a Hall effect device (80) and a magnet (82) that produces a magnetic field that acts on the Hall effect device. A member (100) is constructed of a ferromagnetic material and has a portion (110) positioned adjacent the magnet (82). The portion (110) has a size that is unique for every different position of the vehicle seat (12) between the forward and rearward positions. The portion (110) of the member (100) alters the flux path of the magnetic field which varies the portion of the magnetic field acting on the Hall effect device (80) to a degree that depends on the size of the portion. The Hall effect device (80) provides a signal functionally related to the magnitude of the magnetic field acting on the Hall effect device.

  • Patent number: 6918170
Abstract: The invention relates to a tubular rivet connection between at least one first (1) and one second metal sheet (2). According to the invention, the tubular rivet (3) is made from the metal of the first metal sheet (1) by deforming, in a drawing direction (Z), the edge area of a first hole (4) located in the first metal sheet (1) into a second, larger hole (5) located in the second metal sheet (2), whereby the second hole (5) located in the second metal sheet (2) is, in particular, gradually enlarged with regard to its diameter in the drawing direction (Z). The invention provides that the tubular rivet (3) is shorter in length in the drawing direction (Z) than the thickness of the second metal sheet (2). To this end, the thickness tolerance of commercially available metal sheets is taken into account and damages to the tools and/or the formation of chips is/are prevented.
