  • Patent number: 5018453
Abstract: A conversion apparatus (10) for converting a vehicle (V) for travel on a railway comprises first and second assemblies (20, 20') connected by an axle (23). Each assembly (20, 20') comprises a first support member (11) rigidly mounted to the vehicle frame and a second support member (13) pivotally mounted to the vehicle frame. The second support member is coupled to the first support member for limiting the pivotal movement of the second support member relative to the vehicle frame. A pair of railway wheel support arms (18, 18') are pivotally mounted to the second support member (13) for movement between raised and lowered positions and carry a railway wheel (21) rotatably mounted thereon. A hydraulic cylinder (22) moves the railway wheel support arms between the raised and lowered positions.

  • Patent number: 5016397
Abstract: An apparatus for removing wrappers from coin rolls comprises a cascade type vibrating feeder bowl for aligning wrapped coin rolls and feeding them serially to the upper end of a coin roll chute that slopes downwardly to a lower end. A pair of contra-rotatable abrasive discs overlie and partially straddle the chute at a predetermined location along its length and a vibrating separator for separating loose coins from their torn wrappers underlies the lower end of the chute. In use, wrapped coin rolls are fed to the chute and are directed thereby to the abrasive discs. The abrasive discs, then, bear against the rolls within the chute to tear away their paper wrappers whereupon the resulting loose coins and torn wrappers fall into the separator where the coins are separated from their torn wrappers for collection.

  • Patent number: 5015213
Abstract: The present invention comprises a method and apparatus for automatically separating the breast (15), back (17) and saddle (21) of poultry carcasses (10) while the carcasses are moving along a poultry processing line. The carcasses are initially engaged by a disk cutter (26) which cuts along the visceral cavity between the breast and thighs of the carcass to enlarge the opening of the visceral cavity. The carcasses are carried into a first processing station (29) wherein the breast and upper back are separated from the legs, thighs and lower back of the carcass, and the breast is split and the backbone cut away from the upper back. After being separated from the breast and upper back of the carcass, the legs, thighs and lower back are carried into a second processing station (40) where the thighs are engaged by a pair of joint opening guide rods (72 and 73) which press the thighs away from the back to open the connecting joints between the thighs and lower back.

  • Patent number: 5015807
Abstract: An intermediate lever is additionally disposed between the position pin of the shift lever shifted to Park-position and the Park-position detecting switch. Therefore, even if the axial stroke of the position pin along the shift lever at Park-position changes according to the models of the shift lever apparatus, it is possible to use in common the same standardized Park-position detecting switch by changing the shape or dimensions of only the intermediate lever, thus reducing the parts stock or maintenance cost thereof. Further, it is also possible to mount the switch at any desired position away from the pin locating cutout formed in the shift lever support frame.

  • Patent number: 5008057
Abstract: The disclosure herein describes a method for producing a structure, more particularly a wooden structure, in the surface of a hardened fibreboard, especially a medium-density fibreboard; it comprises the steps of: applying a resin-water mix to the surface of the fibreboard on one or both sides to soften and penetrate into the surface of the fibreboard; and pressing the fibreboard with a short-cycle press, under the action of pressure and heat, and using a structured pressure-plate. The water-part of the resin-water mix is caused to evaporate and the resin-part to cure, whereas the structure of the pressure-plate is moulded into the surface of the fibreboard.

  • Patent number: 5007731
Abstract: In the method, a volume (5) to be measured is illuminated by a pair of light beams (3) which cross each other. The Doppler-shifted scattered light (8) originating from the particles (6) which are moved along with the flow is registered and converted into electric signals (1). The Doppler frequency of the registered scattered light (8) is used as a measure of the flow velocity. The electric signals (1) of the registered scattered light (8) are digitized and represented in the form of an image and a coherent light beam is transmitted through the image. The coherent light beam (14) is focussed in a Fourier plane (18) as a result of which a Fourier-transformed image (22) of the electric signals (1), which exhibits a dot pattern (24), is generated. The Fourier-transformed image (20) is recorded and processed further.

  • Patent number: 5007433
Abstract: A stimulation device for the determination of the temperature perception of the skin of a patient by means of a stimulator, which is arranged in a casing and which can be heated up or cooled down by a Peltier element. The stimulator (1) is arranged moveably along an axis (5) in the casing (4) and shows a projection (14) in relation to the casing (4) in the starting position. A first pressure device (6) cooperates with said stimulator (1) in such a way that said stimulator (1) can be shifted along said axis (5) by expenditure of force until said projection (14) is at zero. The force is predefined or adjustable by said first pressure device (6).

  • Patent number: 5007333
Abstract: An automatic coffee machine, in particular for the preparation of individual cups and small pots, is equipped with an instantaneous water heater (1) for the preparation of hot water, an installation for the feeding of coffee powder and a brewing device incorporating a brewing chamber (17) consisting of a stationary tube section (11) with vertical axis (12) and two locking pieces (15, 16). There is an axial drive (33) for the motion of the upper locking piece (16) in the direction of the axis (12) 0f the tube section (11) and a radial drive (31) for the radial motion in relation to this axis (12). The upper locking piece (16) carries the hot-water inlet into the brewing chamber (17), it consists of two parts, i.e. a supporting piece (67) and an at least partly conical centering piece (68). The centering piece (68) is equipped with only one gasket (28) for the sealing of the brewing chamber (17) on the one hand and the sealing of the hot water inlet on the other hand.
